Got the answer I was looking for

Its complicated, he is basically a free agent, however. Basically it goes something like this: its a team option to keep him or not, but if they don't they still have to pay him 4 mil or something like that, but he will be off their books. Obviously the Suns aren't gonna take the team option to pay him 16 mil or whatever his contract warrants, so they will buy him out for the 4 mil and Vince will be a free agent. I don't think he wants any part of being on the Suns anymore and the Suns probably feel the same way. Expect him in a new uniform next year.

I believe he's got a team option, which I would be surprised if the Suns do pick up.

He'll probably be searching for some post-season success and will end up on a top playoff team. It's pretty sad how much Vince has fallen off.

Damnit, he really let himself go.

If you just look at Vince's shape and Kobe's (they're the same age) it's just a disgrace.

I think he still has the TALENT to contribute, just no will, effort, and he's just fat now.

I never said I would rather have Vince more. I did say however I would rather "run the offense" through Vince Carter than Chalmers or Haslem. Chalmers can create his own shot at times, but he also commits a lot of unnecessary turnovers. Haslem is a great role player and can knock down a solid jumper. However, he doesn't really have any moves to get to the basket and isn't a post-up guy either. Vince, while inefficient at times, can score in many ways.

I hope we aren't keeping him. His body language clearly says that he doesn’t want to be in Phoenix.

I'd say he wants to go to a contender, but his salary demands and general decline in performance might make it pretty hard for him. He should have at least tried to play well after the trade to Phoenix so that potential suitors might believe that he still has something in the tank.

He didnt watch him in those final 20 games like we did...he was the reason the suns didn't make the playoffs..that and frye's injury hurt us the most..Suns would of been better off just buying Vince out and letting Pietrus play his minutes, but i think they were hoping they could deal his contract at the end of year? I don't know, but they better not bring him back either way!

cubswin25
05-26-2011, 11:49 PM
I would take him on the Bulls, at least he can create his own shot and score still. If the Bulls had another guy who could score late in the game they could have beat the Heat. But Rose can only do so much, when he is doubled team by bigger players and who also fast players. Especially when everyone stands around and waits for Rose to create. They need another guy who can create and score. That make things on Rose so much easier. Vince Carter isn't what he once was but he's still solid and hopefully he would get himself in better shape. If he becomes a free agent and is looking for a new deal. Not to mention he's still a big game who is also going to get foul calls late in games as well.

So the four million buyout doesn't count against the Suns' cap?

Wherever Carter goes, it might be best he goes to a team that doesn't shoot a ton of threes such as the Magic and Suns. He has an impressive range, but that's not his game.

No, the $4 million WILL count against the Suns cap next season, but that's better than $18 million for a player that doesn't want to be there.

I read an article today saying the Blazers want out of Brandon Roy's contract (in so many words).
If that's the case and the Suns don't wanna give up the Nash era, that could be a deal that makes sense. Especially if Portland is seriously considering dropping Roy with the Amnesty clause.

cubswin25
05-27-2011, 05:03 PM
The more I think about it, the more I like him on the Bulls next year. As long as he's in better shape and motivated. The guy isn't the superstar he use to be, but he's still a good player on the right team. He can still create his own shot and can still score the basketball. Which is something the Bulls need and as long as he buys into Thibs system and tries on defense he should be ok there too.

cubswin25
05-27-2011, 05:07 PM
Oh, I'm sure NY, or Miami, or Orlando, or LA, or Boston, or Chi-town, or Dallas could use him somewhere in their line ups.

I still think the guy is gonna wanna go somewhere to start. Even in a down year last season he was still a productive scorer. Which is why he will still see himself as a impact player and not a role player off the bench. So I don't see him going to Heat, Lakers, Celtics or Orlando. But the Bulls, Mavs, or Knicks are realistic options I believe.

This is how stupid this league is. Way too many NFL fans watching this league and equating the "30 years old = retirement" ******** to NBA players, a majority of whom who play until they decide to hang it up. Not because teams wont sign them like in the NFL.

As soon as a 30+ year old player's contract is ready to expire, suddenly they need to be "coming off the bench". AI goes for 26 PPG in 2008 on All Star numbers and the next season as an expirer he needs to "come off the bench" now as if he didnt just lead a team to the Playoffs as Option 1B.

How soon we forget VC was the starting SG for the Magic squad which went to the ECF last year. He served as their #2 option and because his shot fell off against Boston in the ECF, now suddenly hes a "scrub" who needs to retire or come off the bench playing 10 MPG.

Vince Carter can still start in the NBA. He goes to Phoenix and still puts up good numbers despite playing in a 5 man SG/SF rotation and being relegated to a spot up shooter. Thats never been his game, espescially when it comes to not having the ball in his hands to create his own shot.

If you add him to a Playoff team he at the very least is a 6th Man. In some of those situations like Chicago espescially he would be starting and giving you 15 PPG.
