View Full Version : Dirk Nowitzki: Best performance of the playoffs so far?

Sorry if I come accross as a homer :p

He couldn't miss. The FTs were ridiculous (And to anyone saying anything negative toward the ridiculous amount of FTAs he took, Durant had 19 FTA and Wessy had 18 FTA.)

If not, who had better and why?

I really liked paul's game 1 & 4(?) performance but what dirk did tonight was unreal!

Great analysis 210don.

Would you care to go into further detail, perhaps enough detail that would lead to positive discussion?

im a laker fan and i hate the mavs and dirk with passion because they eliminated the lakers. BUT dirk was ****ing beasting it tonight! definitely the best performance in the playoffs so far.

Had Orlando won Game 1, Dwight would've had the best performance, hell he could've gone for 60-20 if they kept feeding him (13 in first, 18 in second, 2 in third [when they destroyed us] and 13 in the fourth)... But Dirk was on fire, great game and definitely best of the playoffs IMO.

Dirk also had 4 blocks.

I almost think it's unfair OKC only got 1 day off to rest.

Chris Paul's game 1 against LA. He was a flat out beast in that game. He had a triple double in the victory.

Durant is hype

I was gonna say Dirk easily, but then I remembered Dwight's performance, while considering Dwight's monster double double Dirk gets the nod!

Almost a disadvantage for the Mavs for how long they had off. A lot suspected they could be rusty.

Uh..hm..no? Joe Johnson was beasting in the playoffs this season.

No but seriously, come on Mavs fans the answer is pretty obvious isn't it? We all know you just wanna hear it out of other fan bases because they always call Dirk a choker.

LionsFan..LOL

Yes Dirk's performance was the best so far but not by much. D-Howard's monster performance during game 1 against ATL comes up a close second.

That is what always happens when a series goes to a game 7.

And personally, I think its fair. If you finish it off early, you will get rest. If it takes you all series long, you have to play longer and no rest.

I'm gona go yes. Paul had two games against the Lakers that were incredible, but what Dirk did tonight was unbelievable.

48 points on 15 FGA? What on earth? That's a TS% of .938!!

I doubt that any of us could jump on 2k11 and do that IN THE VIDEO GAME.

All you other fans need to stop giving the "Mavs fan" crap. Dirk was brilliant tonight; give credit where credit is due and don't derail this thread.

I say Chris Paul's triple double is tops.

27 points
15 assists
11 rebounds
50% FG

05-18-2011, 12:52 AM
Yea Cp3's were great...and he was doing with scoring and setting up teammates...but man I gotta go with Dirk...that was one of the greatest scoring performances I've ever seen in the playoffs...

Seriously since the Lakers series it seems like every time Dirk shoots the ball it goes it...Like it reminds me of 2k11 when a guy hits a couple shots in a row and gets hot....or in nba jam when a player gets on fire hahaha...except in Dirks case its lasted about 2 weeks lol

YES. 48 points along with 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. Goes 24-24 from the line and everyone forgets how he went 12-15 from the field as well without a single 3 pointer attempted. But Dirk sucks though. Doesn't show up in the playoffs.

And thankfully for him, his teammates aren't choking thus far either.

Great game by Dirk! Although, there were times where OKC just didn't learn anything. Make Dirk hit 20 foot fades rather than fall for his pump and draw the foul... guy is automatic from the line. Half his points were from the line!

pd1dish
05-18-2011, 02:04 AM
it was easily the best performance. even if you want to make the argument that he got every call in the world, he went 24/24 from the line which is beyond impressive and then to go 12/15 from the field is also great. he was nearly flawless on offense.

PS

Barea is my new favorite non-black player

sunsfan88

Dirk isnt really a PF. He can pass like a PG, shoot like a SG and rebound like a SF.

I know he plays the 4 for the Mavs, but I think when Durant said that Z-Bo is the best PF in the NBA, he meant true PFs like Randolph, Garnett, Amare, Alridge etc.

48 points on 15 shot attempts. I was rooting for him to get 50 so hard.

That is incredible efficiency. That kind of efficiency allows other players, like Barea (who had a career night) and Terry to have big nights themselves.

Easily the best performance in my opinion, and Dirk has clearly been the best player in the playoffs thus far. Anyone who disagrees with this either is a hater, or doesn't know anything about basketball.

He might not be the best player in the world, but right now he is playing better than anyone else at the most important time.

Dirk is on fire, and if he keeps this up, he is going to carry his team straight to a championship.

Incredible.

I laugh every time he makes a shot. Such an amazing player.

Between him and Durant, I was laughing throughout the game. Those two were making impossible shots, and then Barea got in the mix too.

The crazy thing is, Dirk has been doing this consistently throughout the playoffs.

I don't think I have ever seen a player be so hot for such a long period of time.

When he actually misses, I am shocked and surprised...but then he makes his next 5 shots off one leg fading away and I'm like...yep there it is.

Those catapult fades look so slow and awkward, but impossible to guard.

He's a PF. He's 7 foot, and get's the ball in the high post (or even low post) and does work specifically in set half court plays.

Dirk by far, nobody can guard him straight up, the thunder need to be more scrappy on defense with him, they have to let the other 4 beat him, Keep Durant on him, and run at him with collison or serge.they didnt learn nothing from the lakers... they have to do something but i dont think they can..this is why I was hoping Memphis would win

I would say Carmelo Anthony performance against the Celtics when both Amare and Chauncy were hurt at least matches Dirk performance. He carried the Knick by himself and Jeffries blew a layup that would have won them the game.

Man this thread makes me feel awesome. Us Mavs fans have been wanting a chance to show we can do it again, and how Dirk doesnt get nearly enough credit. So happy he is changing minds one game at a time. That performance last night, not speaking as a homer, but as a basketball fan, was one of the most impressive performances I've ever seen.

And here's the wild thing, Durant WENT OFF too. I really didn't think dude coming out of Texas was gonna turn into the insane wild man he has become. My hats off to OKC for their performance as well.

Carmelo scoring 42 pts on 30 shots is nothing like Dirk scoring 48 on 15 shots without taking a single 3 and to have 4 blks, 6 reb, & 4 ast to go with that good of a shooting night is absurd. Not to say that Melo didn't have a great game, but they are not close regardless of the 17 rebounds. Not to mention that the way the Celtics played against the Heat kind of diminishes it for me. They looked real old. CP3(27pts-15ast-13reb) had a couple of great performances as well and so did Dwight Howard (46,16-23fg 19reb or 33pts(12 attempts) 19reb, hell even Durant's performance last night was amazing, but Dirk's was an alltime great performance. If we count every shot he took, he was like 36-39.

Melo had 42-17-6-2 and he did it without Chauncey, and Amare on the floor. Take away the next two best from Dallas and dirk won't do that. You saying they're not close is absurd, Melo had 6 less points, 2 more assists, 11 more rebound, and still shot just undert 50%. And they way the Celtics played the Heat has NOTHING to do with what Melo did to them. Both were all time great performances. Dirk get's the nod like I said because they won they game. Dirk had a great night.
