glad he's coming back....and all good coaches always have good players, It's yet to be seen what Phil Jackson would do without Jordan, Pippen, Shaq, Kobe, Gasol, Odom....its hard to win when you just have paul pierce and a bunch of 22 yr olds, Doc is a great coach

Dude, the CELTICS were horrible before we had KG and Ray Ray... It was the Paul Pierce show all day every day. He is a great coach.

Don't forget he was coach of the year with the Magic as well.

He won coach of the year in 2000

I think he's a solid coach. Not the world's greatest, but solid.

5 years is a ton...but I doubt he'll last for all 5.

Maybe it's 5 years for this reason!

Austin Rivers plays one year at Duke.
Austin Rivers plays 3 years with the team that drafts him.
Austin Rivers goes to Boston the first chance he can be a FA...Doc's 5th year with Boston

I'm totally joking, BTW.

Hey, everyone saying Larry Brown.... just because his team didn't have any HOFers doesn't mean squat. they were a PERFECTLY built team. how'd Larry Brown do with the Knicks and that monstrosity of a roster.

5 years? no way they rebuild then. they're just gonna keep the core keep re-tooling if they don't win championships year after year.

Ok, one of the greatest coaches ever. But still I will bet that someone from that Pistons team goes to the hall.

He wants to see how the team is constructed in the summer of 2012 when they have capspace. Maybe they get Dwight?

Danny will pretty soon be Joe Dumars (what he did with Pistons).

I already see it happening (maybe already started?)

pretty sure if the Celts didn't sign him, plenty of teams would be of interest.....BTW a coach cant control injuries, trades made, and or crying in the locker room after regular season games;)

doc rivers is a great coach in this league. soo happy he re-uped with boston. it's a good situtaion for him there. he's loved by the fans, by his players, and he's got the full support of the gm/management who's not afraid to spend some $$$. plus, he just got 35 million more reasons not to leave.

personally, i think Ainge has a plan post big 3 and if doc didnt like it, i doubt he wouldn have signed. so it'll be interseting to see what goes down.

also for the larry brown thing: true larry brown probably didnt have any HOf's on that pistons teams but he had really good players though. he had a prime billups/rasheed/b. wallace/rip hamilton/and a young prince. that is a very good team. maybe no superstar players but all stars none the less.

I wouldn't take anybody over Doc, as much as Boston fans are confused with his substitution patterns and unfounded man love for Big Fat baby sometimes.

IMO doc wouldn't have wanted or agreed on a 5 year deal. Unless Danny Ainge told him some crazy moves he plans on doing. If it was to keep the core around for a couple more runs, why would he have done 5? The big 3 aren't going to be around that long, so there is something going on. Me personally, I hope so, the c's need to get younger.

Didn't he say last season he was considering retirement just so he could follow his son mature as a basketball player? It's a nice safety net though.

Shocking

All I can think of is...Dwight Howard? That might have been the only thing that would make Rivers stay captain of this barely floating ship. But a team of

Rondo
Allen (MLE)
Pierce
Garnett(MLE)
Howard

would be pretty beastly if healthy.

35$ Million!!!! Doc aint worth that, the c's will regret this when the big 3 are gone and hell go back to being the same doc who sucked as a coach before the big 3.

05-13-2011, 03:07 PM
Here is what you guys are missing, everyone does agree that the core is good for 2-3 years more and Doc is well worth those years, now for-after those yeas what does Doc do? He provides the intangibles to attract players in the league to Boston, I mean Doc has built a winning resume there are nuff players who would want to play for him. I guess that was the rational of extending him five years and they still will have a Rondo a Jeff Green and a Pierce who has the ability to be able to easily play for another four years to market to players.

Wow. 7 Million a year for Doc. That's crazy. Of course he would take it. He is now more set for life. And he probably won't have to work all 5.
