That is amazing. Those guys held the NBA down without question. Feel sad for Shaq a bit, wish he could've just walked away from the game instead of those injuries catching up with him. Magnificent career big fella. Timmy too, I think he has productive years still ahead of him, not 20 and 10, but still a very very good player. Kobe still has time, although him taking over and scoring 50 or 60 is likely behind him. The guy is still a walking 25, 5 and 5 player which is pretty rare. He mentioned today that this was actually the first summer in 3 years I believe that he'll be able to work out and improve his body physically. Still got a few very good years in the tank. Still think KG, Ray, and Pierce are very solid players too. KG makes any team he's on better, without question.

As much, as I want to see Chicago and OKC make it, I believe a repeat of the 2006, NBA finals is more likely. But with Dallas winning.

Add Jordan and Olajuwon to that list and you have the first finals without any of those FIVE players in over twenty years. Twenty years.

To take it one step further, if you add Thomas, Magic, and Bird to that list, you have over THIRTY YEARS of finals attributed to only eight players. That's more than a three-peat for each player.

From a stand point of all professional sports, this might be the most amazing stat out of all of them.

The way the streak is redeemed is with Dallas getting there because of Kidd's b2b

If Wade, Dirk, and LeBron get there it stands as well as being part of the same hand full of big names

13 years...holy ****!

Seems like only yesterday I remember Knicks/Spurs, Staples opening up, and so on. Damn I'm getting old, and that was confirmed when I was talking to my teenage cousin and he looked at me crazy when I said the Bulls 2nd 3 peat team was crazy, and he said he wasn't even born then. I needed to get a drink.

Another reason why I'm rootin' for the Mavs. I don't want the 90's generation givin' up the reigns of the league yet.

Between them thats 28 titles. A record of 28-10

That is what I was thinking.. and between the 3 of them.. 8 finals MVP total during that time span..

Kinda no brainer here. I'm actually surprised that a lot of people didn't know about this as we kept talking about how only the Lakers, Spurs, Celtics, Pistons, and the Heat have won ships after the MJ era.

Hell you can even extend it to...

Duncan, Kobe, Shaq, MJ, Horry, Rodman since the 1988 finals

Thanks for posting that fact. 1998 doesn't seem like that long ago, but I guess it really is.

After the Mavs bounced my Lakers I was often asked why I didn't appear to be fazed. I tried to explain, but no one could quite understand that I really am satisfied -- overstuffed -- with what the Lakers have achieved during my lifetime. We don't have to win every year for me to feel content right now.

If my time was up today, I'd die a happy fan. At least as far as the Lakers go. As far as my other teams, my ghost would probably come back to haunt the Black Hole/ Oakland Coliseum until the Raiders won another Super Bowl and the A's, the World Series.

Anyway...

It will be refreshing to see some of the other superstars around the league get a chance to either affirm their legacies or start their own Finals lore.

Plus, it gives the Lakers incentive to try and regain their championship level form. Will they do it? Who knows. But it will be worth watching and discussing going forward. Things are just much more interesting when your organization is hungry for greatness.

I am sure we will see Kobe in the Finals again at least 1 more time. Probably not as the main center-piece, but still.

Lets see who dominates this decade in terms of finals appearances.

I hope we are bringing this stat up in 10 years and using Durant's name.

Hangtime

I still consider Kidd, Dirk, Wade, and Lebron as being as much apart of that era and if those two teams make it to the finals it still has that 2000's feel to it. Doesn't really feel all that different until we get the likes of Durant, Westbrook, Rose, and Paul as a true testament to a changing of the guard.

Another fact: Since M.J. retired, this will be the 13th straight finals that DOES NOT include two-time MVP Steve Nash.

What about Lebron?? Dirk didn't abandon his team and sign to be D-Wade's sidekick and play with Bosh. Dirk is definitely more deserving. I'm pulling for the Mavs for sure.

call me crazy but i think kobe wins two more ships. like you said maybe not as the main peice but kobe is far from done. duncan can journey for another ship too. I dont think he is completly done. he can still contribute to a contender imo. shaq is completly done.

Just a few names that Duncan, Kobe, and Shaq stopped from getting rings in the decade. I hope Dallas takes it all. What a story that'd be.

The end of Shaq and Duncan era, yes. Kobe has still got something in the tank and with this offseason to recharge, the Lakers will be back focused and strong once again.

i wouldnt have wade in the upcoming era, he is almost 30.. lebrons kinda getting up there in age too, and he will likely decline sooner because he relies heavily on athleticism.

Shaq = 4 rings. Duncan = 4 rings. Kobe = 5 rings.

How is Lebron James "up-and-coming" era lol. He has already been MVP twice. Named to 5 All-NBA first teams. Finals appearance. Three Conference Final appearances. And 7 allstar appearances. I THINK WE HAVE BEEN in the LEBRON JAMES ERA for a while now.

Its more like....
Past: Kobe, Duncan, Shaq, Allen Iverson
Present: Durant, Lebron, Chris Paul, Melo, Howard
Future: Griffin, Wall, Westbrook, Rose
