View Full Version : Who would your "Big Three" be?

TomahawkChop 10

We have saw many stars joining together and will no doubt see it in the future. Many of these teams though have struggled at some point in time. The Celtics have the original and aged Pierce, Allen, and KG and won't likely last very many years later. Everyone remembers the Heattles early struggle as Lebrick... I mean LeBron and DWade couldn't figure out how to score with each other on the court. The Knicks are continuing to work out the kinks with the star power of Melo, Stat and Billups. So if you could pick any 3 NBA players towns up your "Big Three", who would it be? For me I would take the best at each major factor in basketball, passing, scoring, and defense. To me that would be Rajon Rondo, Kevin Durant, and Dwight Howard. There wouldnt be any fighting over who is going to score the most, that would be KD. Howard is a beast in the paint and is a major factor on defense. Rondo is easily the best passer in the NBA and is young so he will be there over the years. It is hard not to put the MVP on the big 3 but I will stick with what I have.

That's an interesting big 3. I'd like to see that.

Although Deron Williams isn't as athletic and great at defense as Chris Paul, he's bigger, more traditional, and a better distributor in my opinion.

Dirk Nowitzki is probably the best half court offensive player in the league and presents a mismatch for any team. He can score at will and is as good as there is when playing great defensive teams in crunch time and you need a way to score.

I feel it's safe to say Dwight Howard is the best center in the league. He rebounds, plays amazing defense, and has improved as a scorer. Him and Dirk would compliment eachother so well, and it'd be awesome seeing Deron run the show.

I like the balance the team would have, and I feel it'd be the best big three to go with not considering longevity. (I'd probably go with someone else than Dirk if we're talking about a dynasty)

For those saying CP3, Lebron and Dwight....The lane would be clogged 24/7...wouldn't you want a legit jumpshooter in there somewhere? Plus, if you have Lebron, you don't really need a true point guard since Lebron will do so much ballhandling anyways.

Yeah, the only downside I could see would be the longevity with Dirk being, I think, 32. Other than that, that would be a formidable trio.

After watching Game 3 of him destroying my hawks, I can see wh they would be.

Derrick Rose is a fantastic player and was deserving of the MVP award. With that being said, he just doesn't bring some of things to the table D.Williams or C.Paul does. He is lightning quick, and is a good scorer in volumle, but often fails to do what his position is suppose to do: Get others involved.

In game 3, Rose was great. But against the elite teams, that just won't cut it. He took 11 more FGAs than both Boozer and Deng combined. Those are Chicago's two other options who are both, quit frankly, very solid scorers. Because he scores so well on the #1 team in the East, it seems as he's become the best PG in some eyes. It's nothing new: 99% of the time, the MVP goes to the best player on the best team.

Oh really. ********? That's an intelligent thing to say.

Maybe not everyone believes LeBron is a great fit for a big three because he needs the ball in his hands to be productive. Get a real PG like Deron or CP3, get an amazing scorer/shooter (Dirk, KD) and get a center who can rebound, defend, and score fairly well as well (Dwight).

His teammates don't affect him when they draw up ISO's at the end of the game. Ball movement and scoring diversity is what kills a defense at the end of games. Or someone like Dirk, who can't be guarded, and is a better half-court player than LeBron would be more difficult to stop.

Plus, Corey was right on. Too much drivers (Wade, LeBron, Dwight, etc.) creates a one-dimensional effect and can clog the paint.

I don't think you've been watching the games. There is a reason why Boozer doesn't have many FG attempts. The guy just flat out sucks. He goes to the rim soft and gets all his shots blocked to the point where Rose just doesn't trust him anymore. Deng's scoring comes within the flow of the offense, he also can't really create off the dribble himself and score. People complain Rose shoots too much, but if you've been watching Bulls games this season you can clearly see why.

Even though Boozer hasn't been the same, even before the injury, he's shooting 51% and scoring 17.5 a game. That hardly qualifies as "flat out sucks"

In the playoffs, he's struggled. But that's where a PG finds opportunities for a player to get started, what Deron Williams was able to do.

Derrick Rose holds onto the ball too much, shot his team out of game 1, and almost did the same thing in game 2, if it wasn't for Chicago being one of the best defenses in the NBA, and them playing against the Hawks. 8 turnovers doesn't help either.

If I'm being as unbiased as possible, and could have any three players...I'd probably choose Durant, Dirk and Howard.

So long as you get a solid veteran point guard (Fisher, Ridnour, Hinrich) , and a defensive wing (Sefolosha, Deng, someone like that), you'd have an unstoppable team.

Work it into the post with Dwight, create the mis-match, look for the kickout to Dirk, Durant, or one of your role players. Unstoppable.

Keith Bogans, Sam Young, Tony Allen, Deshawn Stevenson, a diminished Ron Artest, a 33 year old Shawn Marion, Thabo Sefalosha. These are all role players starting at wing spots for remaining playoff teams. Those positions are just easier to fill than PG, C, and even PF. If I'm making a Gus Macker squad, yeah I want Durant and 'Bron, but if I'm building an NBA team I want to fill out the important positions.

You would need Lebron James first (the all around point forward)
Next would be Dwight Howard (a dominating big man at both ends)
Then add the best take you off the dribble point guard (Derrick Rose)

and this team would be sick.

You add a role player at shooting guard and power forward

The obvious choices, they all bring dominance, defense, scoring, and they are complimentary of each other. Plus the fact that they are young. I think it goes without saying that these big three are the best possible.

I still think that I'd want two of my big three to be big men. One that plays in the post, one that plays mid range. For the third, I'd want a dominant wing that can consistently stroke it.

Add a veteran point guard that can manage the game and make the smart pass, along with a guard that plays good D and you have a really complete lineup.

Kirk Hinrich
JR Smith
Kevin Durant
Dirk
Dwight

Something like that. Defensive PG that can hit the open 3 and defend multiple positions. Volume shooting/scoring from the guard spot. All around scorer/slasher/shooter at the 3. Mid range PF at the 4. Defensive centerpiece at the 5.

Perfect.

You'd seriously rather have a 26 year old CP3 v. a 22 year old Rose?

my list is the best. Rose, Dwight, Durant.

all 3 are super stars capable of dominating on their own, all 3 are young.

re **** ed, but this forum never surprises me

CP3 is the best PG in the NBA, why are people ******** for having him on their list instead of Rose?

I'd take CP3, LeBron, Dwight, or LeBron, Dirk, Dwight.

However, that list was in terms of ability alone. I really don't like Lebron James in the least, so he wouldn't be in "my" big three. Not sure who I'd replace him with, though.

Dwight is the obvious first choice. As for the other 2, I'd like a ball handler than can run the offense and a wing player.

There is not a better ball handler/offensive ignitor than CP3 in the NBA today. Therefore, he'd be my PG. No one runs an offense better.

The seemingly obvious choice for the last spot is Lebron. However, if he was playing w/ CP3 he'd have to become an off ball player (CP3 is probably the only player in the NBA where that is the case - everyone else would have to step aside for LBJ). If Lebron could handle that, I go him. If not, I'll happily take Durant.

Absolutely I would, and so would most people. As it stands today CP3 is entering his prime, and is the best PG in the league(some say DWill). There is no reason not to take CP3 over Rose at this point. He is still better, and age is not a factor between the to at the moment.

Mine would be: Durant, D-Rose and Howard

You can make the argument of D-Will or CP3 over Rose sure. I believe currently CP3 is the best PG in the league lets get that out of the way but he deals/dealt with injuries and is obviously older than D-Rose. D-Will is a better passer but Rose has him beat in scoring and rebounding. If Rose only had to average 15-20 a night he would pile on atleast 2-4 more assist a game.

For SF you could make an argument for Lebron, I just like Durants overall game a little better and he is again younger. Durant has a sweet jumper just needs to be a little more aggresive going to the hoop.

My only problem with Howard is character, with Rose and Durant though we should be ok.

CP3, Dirk, Howard

that's a pretty good combo.

Not sure as who I'd pick as my 3rd, but I'd go with the CP3-Howard combo for sure. Pair those two up with a cold blooded off-the-ball shooter [Dirk or otherwise] and it it'd be ring after ring for those 3.

I can see where some people get off on naming guys like LeBron, Rose, or Wade, but to me, the markings of a great combination of players is how well their games compliment each other, not necessarily which players have the best ability to 'take over a game'.

CP3, DIRK & DWIGHT HOWARD.

CP3- court vision to see the floor pass and score at will

DIRK- to spread the floor I think is the biggest match up nightmare in the NBA

HOWARD- Defense, post up scoring, rebound and block shots.

coryd238
05-09-2011, 07:39 PM
CP3, Durant, Dwight

Durant can come off screens for some J's and create his own offense PLUS spreading the floor

CP3 is pretty obvious.

And Dwight catching those CP3 passes for easy dunks :ohno:

Durant (pure scorer), Dwight (defensive force), and CP3 (playmaker) then i would need a great perimiter defender and stretch big man...

I would rather leave my playmaking duties to a true PG so i dont really want Lebron. His style of play may look good cuz he fills stat sheets but it also leads to a lot of standing aroung and watching.

Lebron, Dwight, and Dirk would be nasty thou

I would say Paul Bron & Howard but your argument does make sense, Durant might be a little more compliementary than LBJ. But I think an all NBA Big 3 has to have the best player in the league in it.

3 years ago I would insert Kobe in Durant's place. That team would be RIDICULOUS!

I agree... Dwight + Lebron + a scrub beats any big three you can come up with. However i would rather have a true PG and keep it traditional. Lebron just plays a style of basketball thats not conducive to winning. No matter what, when he has the ball everyone else is standing around waiting. I cant stand that style of play. Ill take the pure scorer, the elite playmaker that makes everyone better, and the absolute beast in the middle who anchors the defense. Everyone compliments each other.

What else do you need...

I'd pick Lebron over Durant for his ability to also play defense. Durant is a below average defender. Lebron is a All-Defensive team member, doesn't matter if 1 or 2.

CP3 is still the best PG to play with.
