View Full Version : Should NBA Re-seed after 1st round?

I was watching Mike and Mike this morning and they made a good point where the nba should adopt the way the nhl re-seed teams again. If Memphis does win I find it unfair that the 4 seed Thunder has homecourt where the 3 seed Mavs does not since there playing the lakers.

Should the nba re seed after each round or should it stay the same. Thoughts?

I'd prefer the top seed getting to pick their opponent each round, then the next unpicked seed choosing, then the next, etc, until all match-ups are made.

I imagine the league's problem with re-seeding of any type, though, is that the NBA likes to get started on the second round before the first round is finished - if there are a bunch of sweeps and one series that goes 7 games, they don't want the other teams to have to wait around for a week to start their series and, most importantly, they don't want to have a week where fans are waiting for one first round game every couple of days when there could be second round games going on. I think they like to keep the interest high throughout.

No. Seeding should stay standard. If you are the Mavs, you are going to get the Lakers either way, you might as well just lose to them now.

No. If you upset a team, you deserve an easier matchup the next round.

hell no.*

if you're the top ranked team, you should be able to face lesser talent.
This really puts an emphasis on the regular season.

so yea- needs to be re-seeded

No. Man up play all 82 games and win most. Not the league's fault that there some upsets. It makes for some entertaining match ups.

I don't really have a problem with the current format but i feel if there is a upset i think the higher seeded teams should have a chance to face a lower seeded team in the next round. I would rather a Lakers/Mavs WCF and Boston/Miami ECF instead of watching it in the semis

No reseeding is dumb if some one can pull off upset of the 8 seed or 2 seed they shouldn't have o play another really high seed right away. They earned it they beat some one four times they deserve it. I don't really see the point of re-seeding any way. Also Memphis hasn't eliminated San Antonio yet. But hey you may find it unfair but the whole conference format is unfair last year the Thunder won 50 games and got the 8 seed thats unfair.

even following the format that you suggest, Boston/Miami would be playing in the second round.

I like it the way it is. If this went through we would have never seen a Utah/GS second round in 2007, which was a really interesting series for me.

Not to me. Maybe in football because you only play 1 game per round, but in basketball you have an entire series.

You're high. That team should have played better in the reg season.

No it actually benefit the higher seeds if there are upsets in the 1st round so the top 3 teams can at least have homecourt for the 1st two rounds. No reason to try to be a number 2 or 3 seed if you have homecourt in the 1st round only.

I'm not saying the system is broke because its not. I like it the way it is. Its just something i found interesting and ask for opinions. Agree to disagree:)

Re-seeding would be interesting, but it would punish the lower seed always. The current system, at least theoretically, allows for the possibility of parity in competition at one series of the playoffs.

At the end of the day, though, the playoffs are a new season and you have to beat whoever you face, no matter what their record was during the regular season.

And the higher seeded teams should've played better in the playoffs...

I do believe the NBA should reseed. I know the best team in the conference gets home court advantage but is that truly enough? I think the best team should have the luxury to play the weakest team in that round. I do believe it makes things much more interesting.

Why are the Lakers playing the 3rd seed Mavs when they should be playing the 8th seed (if Memphis wins)

This is stupid, the best team should play the worst team. I am not scared of Dallas what so ever, infact if I could pick, I would play Dallas, I want them badly.

But it's just stupid, the Lakers who earned their 2nd seed, should play the worst team to advance, not the very best team to advance... How is that fair?

What do you guys think? Keep it this way, or would you prefer it the other way?

It's really stupid!

The West is gonna be; 2 vs 3 and 4 vs 8 (possibly, hopefully)

They should def change the way this goes down

Another reason why the NHL playoffs are better:

They re-seed.

04-29-2011, 11:34 PM
that's why you work hard in the regular season to get the number one seed.... the consequences for being 2 or 3 are being realized now... if the lakers don't like it, they should've been the #1...

CityofChaos

Its fair. The 8th seed always has the biggest disadvantage having to face the best team in the conference during the first round.

Its fair and unfair. As what Shomantaine said the regular season should count. But it is also unfair because of this situation.

But then again how often does the 8th seed beat the 1st? Its RARE. And what if the Spurs won this series would Lakers fans be complaining then?

...interesting. I didn't even think about this until reading this thread. If the NBA were to make a big change like this they should really just change the whole playoff bracket to 1-16, regardless of conference.

It's unfair that the Pacers (37-45) get to play in the playoffs and the Rockets (43-39) do not. That is, if were making "fairness" a priority.

Unfair? Um folks, life isn't fair. If life was fair children wouldn't be dying everyday from lack of clean water or food to eat more or less the higher seeded team getting an "easier matchup." You really want the Grizz, bring it.

no to re-seeding. Home-court advantage is already enough...u don't need to cater to the top teams even more and give them easier opponents.
