I just ordered a basketball jersey for really cheap, and thought I needed a L. Well...I was wrong. The jersey is way too long, and I don't know if washing it in hot water will shrink it enough to fit well. Has anyone tailored jerseys? And if so, how have they looked after? I know someone who can tailor it for $20, but I don't want to do it until I know it's a safe bet.

Your best bet would be to get it tailored, but that's just because washing it won't do anything except for damaging it, depending on how how you wash it. I can't say that having it tailored won't damage it though. I've been collecting NFL and NBA jerseys for years and get them signed by the players. Oh yeah, when you wash them, DON'T use soap because that will cause fading on the letters and numbers.

I don't think you will be able to shrink it.

Same thing just happened to me. I went and took it to the tailor and they were able to shorten it and bring it in a bit since it was too wide as well. It looks great and fits perfect now. The only way that you can tell the difference is that the tag on the bottom of the jersey is now gone. They said that they couldve kept it, but it wouldve cost more $. Get it done!
