View Full Version : How good will John Wall be?

Hey guys I was just curious about how good you guys think John Wall could become especially since the nba is really becoming a "point guard's league" more than ever.

Here is how John Wall's rookie stats compare to Cp3's and D-rose's.

John Wall:

pts: 16.4
ast: 8.3
reb: 4.6
stl: 1.8
t/o: 3.8
fg%: .409

Chris Paul:

pts: 16.1
ast: 7.8
reb: 5.1
stl: 2.2
t/o: 2.35
fg%: .430

Derrick Rose:

pts: 16.8
ast: 6.3
reb: 3.9
stl: 0.8
t/o: 2.49
fg%: .475

Thoughts?

He will be Hall of Fame good if he does 3 things....

1. Limits the turnovers
2. Develops a consistent jumper out to 18 feet
3. Learns to play within the offense in the half court

I agree with this BUT imo wall is much more athletic than cp3 was as a rookie and therefore has more potential than cp3 had as a rookie.

This basically sums it up. Hopefully Wall won't need to carry his team by scoring if the Wiz can get some help around him. Wall's D and playmaking this year was pretty good, but could get better; needs to learn that he can't force everything.

He needs to work hard like Rose did in the summer.

he can be a really good player if he improves his jump shot and improves his decision making. the amount of young talented point guards in the league is incredible today, but its too bad that the talent at center in the league doesnt seem to be improving.

I love how people just think Derrick Rose is his floor lol, that gets me laughing. I didn't know it was a given he'd be the best or 2nd best PG in the league, not to mention a consensus top 10 player... smh. Let the kid prove himself first. And all of the above is with Rose not even improving anymore, so give me a break with that ********.

PrestigeWldWde
04-25-2011, 04:00 AM
In my opinion, if he works on his jumper and improves it then he can be just like D. Rose, but a better on the ball defender. If he doesn't improve on his jumper, then I see him being more like Rondo, but not as dirty of a player. He just needs to keep working hard, though.
Here's another question...Who do you think will be the better NBA player, John Wall or Kyrie Irving? They both have ceilings that are sky high.

John Walls Era
04-25-2011, 04:04 AM
Kyrie Irving has way less hype coming out. John Wall was basically at 1 in most mock drafts at the beginning of the season last year.

1.) That would be comments from nobody who watches Bulls games consistently.
2.) I totally agree. People continue to talk **** about Rose, but suck Westbrook's dick whenever they get the chance. Rose had a HORRIBLE jump shot when he was drafted. Each year since, he's improved and become more consistent. This year he's not only been a very consistent mid-range shooter, but also a good 3-point shooter. Not to mention he's improved at getting to the free throw line and in the final minutes of the game. If you don't believe me, check his stats.

That's not for you Sargon. It's just for the haters that don't know what the hell they are talking about. Don't you just love that when a thread is about another PG, someone has to say something negative about Rose? It's just pure jealousy or ignorance. That's the truth.

I know about the hype, but Irving has been hurt for a lot of the season. Most sites have him at #1 if he comes out. I just don't know much about the guy, that's why I was asking. Either this year's class must be pretty damn thin, or this guy must be pretty damn good to be projected #1. Or it could just be the current lovefest with young PGs in the past few years.

I think the complete opposite, he's a better player playing the point than he is a PG... He's a Top 5 PG atm IMHO but the second, arguably third best (behind DWill also) player playing the point, and can get much better which is great news for Chicago.

Wall has the chance to be very good. He has the raw physical ability that a lot of players just don't have. The key is for him to work at his game, maintain a good attitude, and become a team leader. He might become a great scorer and passer, but i think it is important for him to lead the locker room as well.

He needs to work hard at his game in all aspects. Rookie numbers are good and all, and he has had a comprabale start to other great pg's. however, what players do after there rookie season really determines there career. Is he going to work to elivate his game? will he like playing for washington and their managment and not become a problem? will he stay out of trouble off the court? will washington get him a supporting cast?

All important questions that will determine if he will be a top player in the NBA. I would hate to see a player of his athleticism not live up to the hype. The ball is in his court.

I loved what I saw out of him. He has the fastest first step I've seen since Allen Iverson, and he has a rapidly improving court vision and passing ability that should make him among the league's better passing point guards as well. I don't think he'll quite be 2008 Chris Paul (the gold standard for modern point guards imo), but he'll be really close.

That might be a little much. More potential because of how fast and athletic he is? Absolutely. Way way way way way better? Absolutely not. He shot 41% from the field in his rookie year, which isn't terrible, but not great by any stretch. Irving already has a better jumpshot from both 2 and 3, and is a better free throw shooter. Way too early to tell in either player's case, but the only nod I really give to Wall is upside. I would consider Irving a more consistent player than Wall with a lower ceiling, but both of them will be top 5 in the league one day though.

Wall's game is more athletic, quick and fast paced. Irving is more traditional and efficient.

So basically, Wall's game is kinda like Rose while Irving's game is like Paul. Both are poor man's version on Rose and Paul.

So pick your poison. I'd prefer Irving because he is more efficient and a purer PG than Wall.

Which part?

The one about him being a poor man's version?

Cuz I think that he will be a great PG and will make a name for himself but his game is really similar to Rose's and I don't think he'll be as good. It'll be a good battle between the 2 but Rose will probably come out on top.

They play a completely different game, Wall already plays with a defensive mindset and prefers to get his teammates going before looking for his own shot... He's closer to CP3 than he is to Rose, the only thing he and Rose have in common is their poor shooting ability.
