View Full Version : Rajon Rondo's 10 Greatest Playoff Stat Lines

Ecko72jc

1. 21 points 8 assists 7 rebounds 6 steals in the clinching game of the 2008 NBA Finals...this was the game that told the world he was going to be a force in this league.

2. 29 points 18 rebounds 13 assists 2 steals vs. Cleveland. This was the game that destroyed Lebron James's confidence and ended his time in Cleveland.

3. 19 points 16 assists 12 dimes 5 steals 7 offensive rebounds vs the Bulls in Game 2 of the 2009 playoffs. His first career playoff triple double. People were not expecting this. Rondo was still in the shadows and with no KG he took it upon himself to raise his game for the playoffs...and the rest is history.

4. 19 points 12 rebounds 10 assists vs. the Lakers in 2010 Finals. This game featured maybe 5 iconic highlight reel plays by Rondo and gave the Celtics the confidence they needed.

5. 15 points 18 assists 11 rebounds 2 steals vs the Magic in 2009. Maybe the only playoff game in history where a triple double is clinched via MONSTER DUNK (over Dwight Howard).

6. 15 points 20 assists 11 rebounds 2 steals vs the Knicks in the 2011 playoffs.

7. 8 points 19 assists 9 rebounds vs the Bulls in 2009. I include this game because it was 19 assists and ZERO turnovers. An NBA record.

8. 13 points 19 assists 4 rebounds 2 steals vs.Cleveland in 2010. Rondo had 19 assists after 3 quarter....after 3 quarters.

9. 25 points 11 assists 11 boards 2 steals vs the Bulls in 2009. The only time Rondo has gotten a triple double and lost.

10. 19 points 16 rebounds 6 assists 4 steals vs the Magic in 2009. Rondo averaged 10 boards that series vs Dwight Howard.

Since his rookie year, Rondo averages about 17pts 8rbs 10ast in the playoffs. Dude just has another level that he doesn't bother tapping into until the post-season. Some buckle in the playoffs, but that's his element.

It's not only the fact that he plays better in the playoffs. The older vets surrounding him take it up a notch as well so there are ample assist chances as we saw last night with Pierce and Allen.

Rondo's 24, to answer an earlier question.
That 5 yr/$55M contract is looking like a great deal for Boston.
The other top shelf PG's are gonna get max.
Rondo's a gamer, a stud and the only real resistence Derrick Rose will see this postseason. If he plays at a high level the next few weeks, the Celtics could definitely win it all.

Rondo has a pass first mentality. Always finding the open man. And he is very crafty getting rebounds because no one boxes the guy out. A very valuable asset to a veteran team.

He's a good all around player and a hustler, but I'm still not impressed with his offensive game. Sometimes the lay-ups he gets the opposing team doesn't even defend, for what reason, I don't know. Even with the players around him he shouldn't be getting EASY lay-ups. Yes, he makes difficult lay-ups too, but other times, it's like teams are worried about who he'll pass to it to or forgot it's his shooting that's not good, not his lay-ups.

Not really impressed with the assist numbers. He doesn't make that many great passes, but to his credit he just needs to give the ball to players who can make shots, which his teammates can do, no need to get fancy. One bad thing is he passes up lay-ups sometimes to pass off.

This year in the Playoffs offensively he hasn't impressed me at all really, but last year he really showed he's good player in the post-season. Stepped up and helped carry the team.

So, before somebody says look at his stats and all that, again, I do think he's a good player, but he hasn't shown me he'd be close the player he is on a team such as the Cavaliers.

Ummm... he does make great passes. His court vision is amazing. You can criticize Rondo's offensive game all you want - I do it as much as anyone. But his passing ability is probably the one part of his offensive game that is beyond reproach.

Ok first of all have you ever wondered why they worry who he'll pass it to? It's because he has such good vision that they are hesitant to guard him cause he can easily find an open player for a better shot.
Second he passes up lay ups for better open looks. At 6' 1" a lot of your lay ups are gonna get blocked inside and he knows that so he looks for the best possible shot.
Third, how can his offensive game not impress you, even for someone who has barely watched him before you'd know he had NO jumpshot and this year, so far, he's developed that a little. pretty soon guards are gonna have to play up on him and it'll all be over from there.

There was alot of hateful comments made toward Rondo before the playoffs started. I just wanted to remind people how great this alien actually is.

Hateful? How about the truth?

Rondo is immature and erratic. His triple double games vs not when you look at National TV vs home is a joke. He cruises way too often. Both of his coaches since he was a Freshman in college have called him uncoachable, as has his GM - Ainge.

He's a brutal FT shooter, and a poor shooter out of the lane. He peaked out in 2008-2010 when it looked like he might fashion a HOF career. Since then his stats have fallen off, and his D once very good (w/ too much risk for steals) has become awful as he was getting beaten on routine plays when he was trying this year.

He can't lead the Celts forward because he's not a leader, even though Doc, Ainge, KG, and PP have tried to pass the mantle too him . That's a lack of maturity and personality. He can't lead them on the floor because he has three offensive strengths. Passing (you need someone too finish, say goodbye to the 3 HOF players he's had most of the way), driving (he's doing less and less because of the pounding he takes, because his FT% sucks), and finally rebound (very nice for a PG, but a fraction of what a 5, 4, or most 3's gets). How can a pass first PG work on a team of below average talent, and with his D declining, what else does he have to offer?

I go into a group that I have been in 2-4 times in 7 years and see a thread on page 1 about Rondo, and I post. BTW, it's not a closed thread, what's your damage?. Are you a mod or the thought police? No? Then take a hike.

And BTW I don't hate Rondo. I'm sickened by his fans that refuse to face facts. Rondo can't help being Rondo it seems, just a talented and very flawed human and player, and I've got the memory, and time to hold the stage to get the message out. How sad for Rondo ballwashers.
