View Full Version : First Round Match-Ups: Bulls V Pacers

Many fans may see this series as an easy sweep, the team with the worst record in the playoffs, against the hottest team over the last couple months, and the team with the best record in the league. But I would suggest we not overlook the talent on Indy.

Under Vogel, the Pacers are over .500, and we playing a lot of teams during hot streaks. Since O'Brien's departure, Collison has been playing better, and so has the rest of the team, a team with more depth than some may imagine. Josh McRoberts, Roy Hibbert and Tyler Hansbrough are all over 8 boards a game per36-minutes, so they have a few guys taht can board, and other guys on the roster, like Granger, Dunleavy, Paul George, Brandon Rush, Lance Stephenson, James Posey and Solomon Jones can all grab around 5 a game wiht starting minutnes (though most dont get that many), so the are a good all-around rebounding team. They have good PG rotation and Granger is a solid leader on the court.

So do I think they can take this series? No. Chi-town is simply too good. Indy is finding their feet. Had they fired O'Brien in the offseason, I think this team would be pumping on all cylanders right now, but this league is about momentum. Rose is the best PG in the leauge right now. Noah and Boozer both are better rebounders than anybody Indy has to offer, Geng is a solid defender and will slow down Granger, and the Bulls are a good rebounding team as well (Rose is solid on the boards for his position, and Deng, Gibson Thomas and Asik can all work the glass well considering their minutes and/or position.

Chi-town has momentum, youth, experience and condifence. The have solid defenders at Indy strongest offensive positions, but that said, I think Indy can push this series ot 6 games.

thoughts?

I think this goes 5, with the Pacers sneaking out a game at home. The Pacers have no answer for Boozer on the inside defensively and no one on that team can come close to stopping Rose.

Only series in the 1st round that I think there is almost 0 chance of an upset. The pacers just aren't a good team. They can take 1 game, maybe 2, but I just can't see this getting past 6 games.

The series could go two ways and the Bulls would still win the series. If the Pacers can get hot offensively they might win a game or two. Danny Granger better back up his words and hope his team can be like the Atlanta Hawks from a few years ago when they were the 8th against the 1st seeded Boston Celtics and took them to seven games. Other than that its going to be a massacre.

I think with all the criticism Chicago has received lately about their inexperience in the playoffs and whatnot, they're gonna come out and prove a point to everyone that they're ready for a trip all the way to the championship (well, to the finals, at least. We're winning the championship ;)).

Chicago in possibly 4, 5 at the most. I voted for Indiana to sweep Chicago and pull off the upset, though. :D

The Bulls will win the serious but dont underestimate us and talk sh it. We have a losing record yes. But thats because we had a idiot coach that made horrible decisions and rotations. We are a team that has trouble closing games. We would have about 10-11 more wins if we could just close teams out. That would put us at about 47-48 wins. Thats a whole different looking team huh? The game against the Bulls the last time was another showing of this. We had them down I think 14 and we let them come back at the end and take us to OT. There WILL BE NO SWEEP

It's okay to be scurred, I would be to at the though of going 0-6 vs the Bulls this year. Oh Deng, the Booze will be flowing over sweet Rose petals after the Bulls' run. And who, exactly, has stopped Rose thus far? That's like saying, "well, if someone would have stopped Jordan, the Bulls wouldn't have won 6 championships." The problem was no one could stop Jordan. And I'm yet to see someone stop Rose.

What is 'stopping Rose'? And the Bulls have other guys who can have the hot hand as well as having a completely even group of players (i.e. 8 players scoring between 11-18 in one game). Deng or Boozer can hold the group offensively for a single game if the D is totally focused on Rose. The best chance for a D is for Rose to take himself out by shooting poor shots or just having a bad shooting night where they don't have to constantly double him or worry about the drive as much.

People seem to think the word "comparison" is parallel to "equal." You can compare anybody to Michael Jordan. Literally, anyone. Some match up a lot closer than others. Needless to say, nobody matches up totally.

Can you compare facets of Rose's game to Jordan's? Sure, just like you can compare Kobe's, Lebron's, hell, Shaq's. Any aspect of someone's game can be compared to anyone else's. In this instance, the particular aspect is dominance, and it's a fair comparison...right now.

The difference is, Jordan went right ahead and did it for a decade and a half. Rose is in his third season, and only his first of truly dominating fashion. But for this season alone, sure, you can compare the unstop-ability of Rose to MJ. No, he's not Jordan, he never will be...but that doesn't mean he can't be compared to the guy.

I really do believe that if the Pacers play up to the level they are capable of, they can make this into a good series. I am not saying the Pacers will win the series but this team could surprise a few people under the right conditions.

Spoken like a true front running Heat fan.... See you think the Heat are gonna win because of the big 3.. What happens when the going gets tough and the fact the Heat have zero good role players to help out the big 3? Stop listening the Colin Cowherd's view of the NBA... Face the fact that the Heat have huge talent up top but are D-League thin on the bench.... And its gonna cost the Heat in the end..
