View Full Version : Durant: "The Fans Have Forgotten Me"

“I guess I’m flying under the radar,’’ the Oklahoma City forward said in an interview with HoopsHype, as if it’s really possible for the 6-foot-9 star to avoid detection devices.

But it was Durant who brought up the belief his Q rating has slipped this season. It all started when he was asked about being on the verge of winning a second straight scoring crown.

“A lot of people forgot about me this year,’’ said Durant, averaging 27.8 points. “So I guess if I get the scoring title, I guess people will remember me. Last year, I kind of jumped on the scene. I’m the old guy. I’m not going out there and averaging 40 points a game and stuff like that. So people forgot about me. So, hopefully, the scoring title I guess will let people to know, ‘Hey, I’m here still.’’’

Hoopshype (http://blogs.hoopshype.com/blogs/tomasson/2011/04/07/durants-under-the-radar-season/#ixzz1ItijKz36)

Do you believe this? Have people been sleeping on the NBA leading scorer?

There was so much KD hype during the summer, a lot of people claimed he was the best player in the league but the hype has since fizzled.

He's not forgotten, he's just old news. His turn was last year, Rose was the man this year.

Westbrook's emergence as a star didn't help either.

We'd all like to believe this is true, but who truly doesn't care about the fame. He's a good kid, but let's just be honest, anyone and everyone wants to be famous; last year he was spoiled and therefore feels maybe a bit forgotten.

That's my take on it.

And this

Plus this years been about Rose and Griffin. People mostly talk about highlight reel players more.

Everyones answers in here so far are baseless.. Do any of you know the context of this interview? Do you know exactly what he was asked? Just because another star emerges, doesn't mean you forget about the other on the exact same team.

If Durant wants MVP, which it sounds like, his team has to get higher than 4th seed.

And really, the reason he got some much praise is because the thunder weren't expected to be that good, this season they were. Of course there was gonna be some layoff

In fairness to Kevin, it really is about the "best story".
At the same time, Durant didn't continue to improve his game like many expected. In fact, he regressed slightly if anything. Not as efficient, and his playmaking hasn't improved which needs to if he truly wants to end his career as a top 10 or even top 5 perimeter player of all time.
Westbrook's improvements also probably overshadowed Durant's success, but if anything, Durant should be more efficient now with another force that the opposing defense has to focus on. Fact of the matter is that Durnt has been settling for more long 2's this season than last season which leads to his decrease in efficiency. That and his playmaking has to change.

I would only blow Durant, Westbrook, Ray Allen, Gary Payton, King Felix, Ichiro, and "The 12th Man" (since they're the best player for the 'Hawks).

This is only human to feel this way. He's sacrificing his numbers for Westbrook which is a great player in his own right. I think he better get use to this feeling like this because Westbrook is only getting better while, just about the only thing KD will improve substantially is his defense.

KD your an elite player (top 5) be patient as Westbrook get better your team will become the best in the west and you'll be sitting pretty again.

very true and what i also notice is that durant dont play well under pressure he needs to get over that hump stop taking long range J(he dont have dirk form, release or touch) as a primary shot the man needs to play inside more and gets some fouls or watch some video of Steve Smith(former hawks) AND MIRRIOR his style like kobe did jordan
