As underclassmen weigh the consequences of leaving college early, some college coaches, NBA front-office members and agents do not seem exactly sure how the possible lockout will ultimately affect the draft class.

“I had one N.B.A. guy tell me that anyone that is a bubble guy, the lockout should pop everyone’s bubble,” Georgia head coach Mark Fox said. “Those guys are a risk anyway. Put this factor into the mix, and it’s just too volatile.”

“I think it will have an effect, and it should have one,” agent Mark Bartelstein said, noting the consequence of leaving early and being sidelined by a lockout. “That’s a disastrous thing for a player in the development stage of his career. It is an issue, and something I’ve raised with coaches and families, and that’s part of the equation, I think.”

Not the greatest news for lottery teams. Thoughts?

Kemba Walker sounds like he may return to Connecticut.

The most candid answer he gave came Sunday when he said, "If I'm in the right situation, I'll have to take my chances."

UConn coach Jim Calhoun said that Walker told him long ago that he plans to return and jokes that "I'm holding him to it." But the possibility is real.

"Everyone's got the assumption that I'm leaving," Walker said. "Everybody says, 'Oh, he had his Senior Night already and he's graduating early,' but that's not even the case. I just want to get (class work) over with because if I was able to come back, I would have maybe one class. . . . I don't see why people make those assumptions."

Walker was asked Sunday whether there would be anything left to accomplish if the Huskies captured the title.

"Yes, if we win a national championship, I'm thinking back-to-back," he said. "We'll have a great team. We'll have the same team, actually. If I could get back to this point again, it would be fun. These guys are like my brothers."

North Carolina freshman guard Harrison Barnes is nearing a decision about whether to enter the NBA draft.

Barnes is weighing his options, as is teammate John Henson.

“It’s something for them to watch and still see there’s basketball and that we aren’t going anywhere,” Henson said, then paused. “I mean, that we’re not going anywhere right now.”

Henson, a projected lottery pick in the 2011NBA Draft, said he’ll have a decision on his plans for next year by Saturday. Teammate Harrison Barnes, who is all but guaranteed a top-five pick in the draft, will have fans wait just a few days longer.

“It’ll probably be in at least a week, week and a half or so,” Barnes said.

The deadline for early entry into the draft is April 24.

Kyrie Irving spent the weekend at home in New Jersey but isn't ready to say whether he's returning to play for Duke next season.

Considered the No. 1 prospect for this summer's NBA draft, Irving said via Twitter on Monday that he needs more time to decide if he's turning pro.

"I'll have my decision made up in the next week or so," Irving posted on Monday around 4:30 p.m.

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski has said he will support whatever decision Irving makes.

It will likely have an effect in terms of keeping out the top guys, who don't want to spend a year out of school but not playing/getting paid.
But I wonder if it will have the opposite effect on guys lower down, or guys the first round bubble. If some of the top guys are holding out till next year, average guys are likely to get picked higher this year, and lower next year - so that's an incentive to go this year, right? For some it would only be a slight salary difference, and not worth the year of not being in school and not getting paid - but for some it could be the difference between a guaranteed contract or not, or even getting drafted or not.
