this is a new thread that ties in with that fail thread.

lets go back to the 2010 NFL season, its the final weekend of the regular season, St.Louis and Seattle battle for the division, Seattle wins. Win the NFC West with a pathetic 7-9 record. had they not won the division, they easily would've missed playoffs....

So lets translate that into the NBA/MLB/NHL.....

has a team ever won their division, But if they did not win the division, they would've missed playoffs, with same record? just look at the Seattle EX:/ above.

No. It has never happened, and it's pretty obvious why.

In the NBA, for the bulk of its existence, there have only two conferences, and two divisions in each. The NFL is split into 8 divisions total, making this more possible. The NBA has basically always had 4. In the 70s, for this to happen, basically every single team in one of the Eastern divisions would have had to have had a better record than every team in the other division. The odds of that happening are probably close to zero.

The NBA expanded gradually, but still, only 4 divisions. There became 6 divisions in 2004-2005, so realistically that's when this could have started to happen, and that's easy to trace back to. And I can tell you, it hasn't happened.
