View Full Version : Heat considering signing Eddy Curry for playoffs

The Miami Heat are progressing toward signing center Eddy*Curry? for the playoffs, front office sources told Yahoo! Sports.

After Heat president Pat Riley watched Curry work out in Chicago in recent days, he’s made plans to bring the 7-footer to Miami early next week for another workout and a medical physical with the ultimate objective to sign him, sources said.

Curry’s weight and personal problems have derailed what had been a productive career, and yet Riley has been hopeful Curry could somehow give the Heat a limited inside presence in the postseason. It is believed Curry still weighs more than 350 pounds

One league source listed the probability of Miami signing Curry at “better than 50-50.” The Heat would need to cut a player for the playoffs, with rookie Dexter*Pittman? as a likely candidate to be waived.

After the Minnesota Timberwolves bought out Curry’s contract in February following the three-way Carmelo*Anthony? trade with the New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets, Curry started to work again with trainer Tim Grover in Chicago. It’s unclear how much weight Curry lost, but NBA executives say he hovered around 375 pounds when he arrived in Chicago several weeks ago.

Curry has played a total of 10 games in the past three seasons – including three in 2009-10 and seven in 2008-09 – for the Knicks. New York never activated him this season. In his best season, Curry averaged 19.5 points and 7.1 rebounds for the Knicks in 2006-07

JasonJohnHorn

I thought players had to be on the roster by a certain date to be playoff eligible?

Actually, there are two rules.

Rule one: You have to be bought-out/relesaed by a certain date.

Two: If you have not played for anybody all season, you are welcome to sign and play anywhere up to the final day of the season. i remember when Karl Malone retired and wasnt sure if he was coming back after his season with LA, he was rumoured to go to a number of places up until the end of the season because he had not played for anybody all season.

that said, I was under the impression that if you were SIGNED (regardless if you had played or not) you had to be both bought out by a certain date, and then signed before another date.

But regardless, I doubt there is much a 350 pound Eddy Curry is going to do to help any playoff contender.

350 pounds? Seriously? If that guy had the work ethic of Jordan or Malone he would have been amazing. Instead he has made himself a joke, and his male, white, jewish limo driver's accusations of sexual harrassment didnt help his cause any either.

how's that. a lot of their runs start when they are more fast paced wit a lineup of bibby wade miller bron and bosh especially when you have wade lebron and bosh all as good rebounders. he would play a lot of minutes there but it happens and works. heat players dont really play their position its sort of like the lakers minus the triangle.

look at this thread, its not just Knicks fans being illogical. hardly.

although, i will say this, Curry is one of the most unworthy scapegoats for most Knicks fans. he was putting up allstar numbers right up until D'antoni threw him in the doghouse. and somehow its his fault Isiah traded for him and then paired him with Randolph (terrible move)???? Fans need somebody to point the finger at and it was most certainly Curry; whether he was deserving of the blame or not.

At one point people compared Curry to Shaq. now, i'm not in any way/shape/form saying he was or ever could've been a comparable force the Shaq-Daddy. but the bottom line is, this guy can ball. people forget.

Wrong? They Heat have a garbage bench + Eddy Curry = perfect fit.

I meant it more like is Riley is willing to risk his organization then he probably has more insights in the situation then we do. And I do agree with what you said about him. He really was good in his prime.

oh believe me, there is no doubt in my mind that Riley would be making the right move. (speculating that Eddy has gotten himself in shape again)

The risk/reward is too great to pass up. and whats the risk???? basically nothing.

Not homerism. You guys are just wrong, simple as that. Our bench may not be anywhere near as deep as say DEN or BOS, but it's not garbage. That's just a foolish statement. It's that simple bud.

look at this thread, its not just Knicks fans being illogical. hardly.

although, i will say this, Curry is one of the most unworthy scapegoats for most Knicks fans. he was putting up allstar numbers right up until D'antoni threw him in the doghouse. and somehow its his fault Isiah traded for him and then paired him with Randolph (terrible move)???? Fans need somebody to point the finger at and it was most certainly Curry; whether he was deserving of the blame or not.

At one point people compared Curry to Shaq. now, i'm not in any way/shape/form saying he was or ever could've been a comparable force the Shaq-Daddy. but the bottom line is, this guy can ball. people forget.

Allstar numbers until Mike put him in the dog house? Let's not get carried away he hasn't posted allstar numbers since 06 and Mike hasn't been here that long so that is a false statement. Work ethic has been terrible if it was better he would have a hell of a career. His Career high was 19.5 ppg 7 rpg. I think that's a allstar after 3-4 injuries on the allstar team

In the playoffs, Wade and James won't get much rest. So Curry is being signed to have their seats already warm when there's a timeout called.

dude you have know clue what you are talking about. You are acting as if Curry would be a big part of the rotation. At best, he would replace Joel Anthony, or Juwan Howard in the lineup. He would be 5th big man off the bench once Haslem gets back. Bosh, Haslem, Dampier, and Z would all be ahead of him.... He MAY see about 4-8 min. at best a game, but I would expect him to play about as much as Eddie House......

As long as we dont release Pittman..LMAO..SMH..at knick fans..you guys have to be the most simple minded fans and people ive ever meet..you honestly believe Curry was the issue?? It wasnt Dantoni???..

Dantoni has a proven track record of being a BAD COACH..if he doesnt like a player he doesnt play them..regardless of talent..before Dantoni got there Curry played in 81 or 82 games and AVG 19.7 PPG and 7.1 REB..Dantoni gets there and anyone who has an ounce of half court offense doesnt fit in his HORRIBLE system..Thats why knicks dont have a center now, they are run and gun..a low post threat doesnt have a 7 SECOND OF LESS MENTALITY..Riley if he does sign Curry will get him in shape and prove all the simple minded people wrong.

DANTONI IS A JOKE..Dont get me wrong its partially the players fault, but most of it starts with the coach..Dont forget the year Curry gained weight his daughter and wife were found murdered im sure that didnt help his mindset

Miami is a family, with great upper management that helps its players and welcomes them, knicks upper management and coaching staff is A JOKE AT VERY BEST
