I think there are 2 types of "fast" in the NBA. Quick fast, and explosive fast. Tony Parker and Ty Lawson are perfect examples of guys who are quick fast because they're like a flash going from end to end. Explosive fast, are big strong athletic guys who look like bullet trains coming at you. Perfect examples are Lebron and Rose.

fast is a hart term for the NBA, there is a diference between being fast ( 40 strait line fast ) and being fast with the ball. as much as my homerism wants to say D Rose, Im not sure thats the case. one thing D does have is one of the quickest first steps in the NBA. as far as actualy being the fastest, its realy hard to say. unless every player in the league ran a 40, I cant say.

Can't believe noone thinks Wade is up there....watching him run with or without the ball is ridiculous. he takes those crazy long strides and covers ground insanely fast. At 29 he might not be as fast as say Rose although still close but those saying lebron is faster are not watching close enough.

Wall, Rose, Lawson and Collison. Any of those guys would be in the discussion. It's just too hard to say with the ball or without. I like how Rose is able to change directions in tight spaces once inside the lane while keeping his dribble or contort his body even in the air. He might have the best body control in the NBA. I'll say Wall is the fastest and then Collison at least on the court anyway.

Bull****. You do realize the record is around 4.24.

Also people need to stop throwing Barbosa's name around. Maybe a couple years ago, but he is too old now. Fastest players has to be someone who is under 25 years mainly cause speed is one of the earlier skills that goes down earlier on.

Of course he's fast, I'm not denying that. But at age 28, there is no way he's top 5 in that department anymore. Not with young guys like Rose, Collison, Lawson, Westbrook, Rondo etc.

And I've seen enough Rap games this season like 8-10 (I love James Johnson).

Small guys appear faster because their tiny legs move so fast. But when you take Lebron's speed combined with his gazelle-like strides, he covers ground amazingly fast w/o the ball especially.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fFQdOTqkM4 You can see in this video, Lebron switches gears once he knows Wade has possession, and he's out the gate.

Sorry, the length of a basketball court is not 40 yards.
It's roughly 30. And once again, Rondo cannot run the 40 in less than 4 seconds; no one in this world can. As I said before, since 40 yard has been recorded, the fastest has been around 4.24. I'd wager that Rondo could run it at around 4.4 or so, which is very fast.

lebron james can get up the court faster than anyone with the ball or not. he takes maybe 10 steps and can get from rim to rim. if he played football i bet he'd run a 4.3 some odd forty. i hate the guy but my gosh he is one gifted athlete. he is the fastest. now if you want to go quickest i think you have to go with ty lawson/westbrook/rose/wall. others are quick, but those guys right there are on another level

Barbosa's first step + overall quickness makes him the fastest IMHO. I know I'm in Toronto, but trying not to be biased...I see him play a lot.

Actually I believe I read that Usain Bolt when he broke the 100m record ran the first 40 in like 3.9.

Does the NBA have combine events that track the players speed with ball, without ball, slashing. IF they did it would be interesting to look at the numbers. and it would end this thread.

Wow! So if Lebron and westbrook lined up for a footrace, Lebron would win?

Depending on the distance, yes.

rondo claims he is faster than chris johnson, meaning sub 4.24 speed. having said this, i'm gonna go with derrick rose, because rondo is a dumbass.

Actually I believe I read that Usain Bolt when he broke the 100m record ran the first 40 in like 3.9.

No he didn't.
Here is all you need, regarding that.

Bolt's incredible 9.58 clocking in the 100 meters should have an affect on how recruitniks now look at 40 times.

A former colleague passed along a "biomechanical analysis" of Bolt's run, which included his times at 20-meter intervals. He ran the first 20 meters in 2.89 seconds, the first 40 in 4.64 seconds, the first 60 in 6.31 seconds and the first 80 in 7.92 seconds before finishing in 9.58.

Forty yards equates to 36.58 meters, which means Bolt's 40-yard dash time in a race in which he ran the fastest 100 meters ever was about 4.28.

How is what I responded the dumbest post?

Depending on the distance of how far theyre running, yes james can beat westbrook.

If its a short race then westbrook might have the takeoff advantage but if it were long enough for lebron to get into a full sprint then he'd have the advantage.

if you didnt hate lebron you wouldn't think of it so crazy for him to be so fast.
Either you're a hater or a moron.which is it?

he only has the record cause he was the only one to do it. I could have participated in and no matter what time i got it would be a world record. I could have ran it in 9.8 seconds and that would be the world record, so that record is flawed until more players do it

WTF?? Lebron lovers will do anything to make Lebron the greatest human being on earth. Obviously no one here is talking about who has the fastest mile run. Post after post in this thread has suggested either the 40 yard dash or simply one end of the court to the other... If you think Lebron is faster than westbrook in either of those then your clearly in love with another man... Have you seen Lebron run long distance to even know thats true? wtf?

Wow.there's no sense arguing with you.idk if you can even fathom what I said. I said long distance meaning a100m or half quarter as opposed to one full court or 40 yd.

And how am i lebron lover when I'm a rockets fan?

Its not just me that thinks he is one of the fastest players.

Devin Harris broke the guiness book of world records for fastest time dribbling the ball down a full court baseline to baseline. So until someone else does better i have to go with whats in the record books.
