Tonight, the top 2 6th man candidates went toe-to-toe. Lamar Odom of the Lakers faced Jason Terry of the Mavericks. LO was the guy who blew the game wide open with 8 consecutive points (including back-to-back 3 pt makes) to open up the 4th qtr. Jason Terry had a tough shooting night, and got ejected. Lakers beat the Mavericks 110-82.

Lamar Odom

26 Min. 6/10 FG. 3-4 3pt. 1-2 FT. 16 pts, 11 rebs, 3 assts, 1 stl

Jason Terry

25 Min. 2/9 FG. 0-2 3pt. 1-2 FT. 5 pts, 1 reb, 3 assts, 1 blk

The fact that he showed the NBA world on National Television with the stakes being so high for the 2nd seed in the West will make his case stronger I hope.

I don't think it should be based off of one game. However, I do believe Lamar deserves this award.

Terry is one of the main options on offense, so of course his stats will be good. Lamar does what he does with 100% effort every single time he is on the floor. The Lakers don't run plays for him, they don't look for him on offense anymore than Artest or some others... Odom plays his heart out and has had a very, very good year. Give the man some respect.

He's eligible as long as he's come off the bench in more games than he's started.

^ Why it's not like we move him around all the time in the starting line-up for match-ups. Only to cover for a Injured Bynum. Odom 100% deserves this award and I expect him to be receiving this award.

how much games did he start this year? if it's over 25 i say he's undeserving.

He deserves it, but I think his role goes beyond what many consider to be a '6th man.' He was a beast this season.

Lamar is having his best season ever.

His previous compteition for the award based off previous years:
Ginobli- started all year, isn't eligible.
Terry- hasn't out-performed Odom, and the Lakers have a better record.
Crawford- has had a mediocre year.

Is there even an argument for anybody else over Odom?

Purple&Gold24

Regardless how many games he started or whatever, he deserves it. I bet a lot of other teams would kill to have that type of player coming off their bench without any trouble and I agree with Bruno87

I think Tony Allen deserves some mentioning for the award as well. He has been an excellent player for the Griz this season with his defense and offensive capabilities.

LO has started 34 games this year. The rest of his season has been as a bench player.

Some might say well that is too many games still, but McKie won the award in Phili after starting 32 games in 2001

He's only started 25 games. And in recent games he has had MPG similar to Odom and put up better numbers. He's been huge for the Grizzlies. But then again, nobody watches the Grizzlies so only the mainstream players will get the attention.

i know i've seen his stats lately, but hes been putting up those good stats while he's been starting, not coming off the bench.

i dont think there is. I dont think Terry or crawford has outplayed Lamar. Lamar is having his best season of his career. He got snubbed for the All star game so he should get some kind of award.

Why? It wasnt like he was a starter and got moved to the bench because of poor play. He was a bench player and was moved into the starting role because of injury

he has to. he's better than a lot of teams starting SF/PFs

Storch
04-01-2011, 01:50 PM
For the people saying he shouldn't win because he started so much this year are basing their arguments on a flawed premise. It's an inaccurate argument since the 5th man (Bynum) got injured the 6th man (Odom) had to step in to fill the void as 6th men are supposed to do. He did it and performed well, thus giving him a greater case to win 6th man of the year.
