View Full Version : Should there be a Allen Iverson movie?

I was just thinking about one of the better basketball movies out there, He Got Game. I remember back then hearing that Spike Lee's first choice for the lead role was Allen Iverson and not Ray Allen. Thinking about it now i believe further down the line after AI has been out of league for awhile and after he is inducted into the Hall of Fame his story would make for a good movie, but only if he agreed to put things in there that wouldnt always make him look good because even though im a big fan he is not a model citizen, and im sure there alot of things that went on that he would be embarrassed of. There is a range of material that would translate well into a film, starting with his rough childhood, the high school bowling alley incident where he went to jail and no schools would go near him until John Thompson finally gave him a chance. Being picked number one overall and becoming an icon not only in the nba but in pop culture, to his eventual collapse from stardom, to his inevitable hall of fame induction. Throw in his trial in 2003 i think where he was accused of throwing his wife out then going and looking for her with a gun to his practice rant and how remembered he is for that I think there is enough material to make a very interesting movie if it was done right, similar to the way He got game was made. I don't know, its wishful thinking on my part because im a huge iverson fan but i would like to see what other people think.

A movie wouldn't be nearly as good as a comprehensive documentary.

I'm not an AI "fan." I like him, but think he is tremendously overrated by many. I think a documentary would be very interesting though.

He was not the greatest player ever and he could of been better if he tried harder to buy into the team game, but he was definately one of the 5 most unique players to ever play in the NBA which i think would add to the film.

Didn't ESPN do a 30 for 30 on him? I missed it, but I'm pretty sure they did.

Not a movie. That's a damn good ESPN 30 for 30 though.

I am a huge Iverson fan, one of my favorite players of all time and I'm Sixers fan. The idea of an Iverson movie makes no sense to me.

He got in trouble in his youth, he got in trouble in college, he got in trouble in the NBA, and he more or less got kicked out of the league because no one wanted him any more because he lost a step. There is movie here.

Now if Iverson comes back to the NBA and leads the league in scoring again or takes a humble bench role for the Sixers and hits a buzzer beater to win the finals or does some great humanitarian thing and becomes a great giving person (a philanthropist) then there is a movie, but as of now there is not movie.

I think there could be if more of his social life would be revealed, like i heard he was banned from detroit casinos for pissing in a trash can in the middle of the casino. Then with the rumors of him drinking and gambling himself to death there could be an intruiging story there and not necessarily a happy one.

I agree with your idea but there is no end to the movie good or bad, its just a troubled guy, was troubled and is troubled and hasn't become non troubled. You need a end. Your talking about scenes and plot points, but as of now there is no end good or bad to the movie.

I'd be interested in it being the big fan of him I am, but he definitely seems to have a chance to be back in the NBA next season and has a chance to improve a team with whatever role he has, so before a movie or a new documentary is made, wait for the next chapter(s).

If it actually told the full truth about Iverson, I would buy a ticket quickly.

But I'd actually prefer a brutally honest documentary about Iverson, and what made him the d-bag that we was and is.

Documentary would be much better. His 30 for 30 jawn was pretty weak IMO. I'd like to see a down to earth doc of his rise to stardom and heavy fall.

It doesn't have a climax or an ending. At least Jordan had phases to his career, and you could cheat and call the "Final Shot" the climax. An Iverson movie would build up to nowhere, despite the highlight-filled career.

The 30-for-30 did an okay job with it though.

people see the name AI and immediately hate on it just cuz of that soo id rather them not make a movie of his life if thats how itd be. Espn 30 for 30 did a great bit on him and a lot of people loved seeing his life then

Steve Nash

Paul Pierce
Shaq

I think people would watch it. For some reason people love to watch people who live a train wreck of a life. Look at all of these crap reality shows. As good as Iverson was on the court, His life has been a bit of a train wreck. how did a player of his caliber get weeded out of the NBA before his time was do?
