Mourning's vehicle had been sitting in traffic on the right lane, when he spotted a disabled person sitting in a motorized wheelchair along the curb. Mourning jumped out of his SUV, stood in the road and stopped traffic by raising his long arms, while the wheelchair-bound pedestrian made it to the median. Then, the seven-time NBA All-Star immediately went to the southbound lanes and raised his arms to command stunned drivers to stop. All traffic movement instantly stopped, and the wheelchair safely made it to the other side.
After making sure the citizen was safe on the other side of the road, Mourning lowered his arms and headed to his SUV to the sound of cheering fans, who recognized the 6-foot-10 temporary crossing guard.

He was just a jerk on the court. But he seems like a good person off of it.

For sure. He's definitely a good guy. Almost like Garnett--biggest douche on the court but classy off of it.

Heat forum.

Notice this wasn't made by a Heat fan? Notice that other people are interested in this story?

Anyways, Zo's got a big heart, he's always trying to help people. He and Wade are the first thing I think of as a fan of the Heat!

such a great guy.. i think every guy coming into the league should be forced to listen to a weekend seminar from him about whatever the **** he wants to talk about. who knows what will happen, but they will be a lot more motivated.

Like others have said, he was a huge dick on the court, I absolutely hated him but he did a good deed. Props.

Alonzo has always been a class act. I would have stopped if I saw him direct traffic too.

I've never been a fan of him and hated him after screwing over Toronto but he's still a nice guy.

That's the great part of the story IMO, he's using his stardom to help others.

That's cuz you're a Knicks fan and no good deed can override that douchiness. :)

i read somewhere about garnett donating houses after hurricane kartina, and participating in charties not just in states but all over.

It's ZO. Thats what he does. This dude is all about helping others. People would be suprised at all the stuff he does for others. He got a second chance at life and you can see how much it inspired him to do good. The heat traded my then favorite player Glen Rice for Alonzo so initially i was not too happy but in the end Zo became my co favorite player of all time. So happy this guy is still a part of the heat franchise.
