thought that UNC had a cakewalk to the elite 8...boy Kansas is living the high life...Boston, Illinois, Richmond...and for the trip to the final four....VCU.

That would be the upset of the ages if VCU could beat Kansas...

I remember in 06 most people thought George Mason wouldn't beat Uconn in the elite 8 but they did as unlikely as it must seem don't be surprised if VCU knocks out the big dog Kansas.

Does VCU match up well with kansas....that's a damn tough matchup for VCU.

Like I said though, if they are able to pull it off...upset for the ages.

We need to stop calling Cinderellas "Cinderellas" and start calling them "teams that jack up threes and make a lot of them for a stretch of a few games".

If Butler shoots less than 30 today I'd be stunned.

Except Butler hasn't taken 30 3s in any of their tournament games this year. In their latest upset, they only took 18.

Edit: Also, they are shooting 36.7% from 3 in the tournament coming in. They most certainly are not pulling off upsets because they happen to get hot while jacking up lots of 3s.

30 is a ton of threes to take a game. Not taking 30 doesn't mean you aren't taking a ton. They're already at 28 right now...that's just insane.

It's annoying.

VCU 26, 21, 25. Butler had to take 26 vs. Wisconsin. They did just flat out destroy Pitt, I'll give them that.

They're now at 29. They have no business hanging with Florida.

What I hate is all the people who whine and cry because a small school wins in the tournament. Butler has proven time in and time out that they are a very good team, but yet, people still don't give them credit. If you want to watch a bunch of BCS schools beat the crap out of each other without giving any small conference schools a chance, watch college football. There is a reason why the NCAA tournament gets such high applauds and recognition because even a 11 seed... VCU has a chance at winning a national championship. If the BCS schools are so good, why is it that so many small schools have proven to be just as good, if not better, than the Dukes, Ohio States, Pittburghs, Floridas? Last time I checked, small conference teams beat all of them.

Ehh, I like it when people hate when Butler wins. Most of the people who hate Butler hate them because they are either a) jealous that Butler is where they wish their team was or b) bitter because Butler knocked them out recently. People don't hate bad teams. When you look at all of the most hated teams in sports, the Dukes or Yankees of the world, they are all extremely successful teams. Hate is essentially the ultimate compliment a lot of times.

I can't speak for everyone, but I don't really hate Butler all that much. Hell I was in the game thread with you rooting for Butler last year. If Butler had Heyward back I most likely wouldn't be complaining. The appeal to Butler for me left when Heywaed left. As a basketball fan I would much rather have the best teams win. I don't need the underdog story every tournament. I know this might offend some people, but I would much rather be watching Jared Sullinger or Derrick Williams right now rather than Andrew Smith and Matt Howard.

Butler did my brackets a favor early by knocking off Pitt, who I had losing in the 2nd round. BYU was my pick from this region but since nobody else got points from Pitt it didn't hurt me at all. My other 3 Final 4 teams are all still alive, Connecticut, North Carolina, and Kansas. I have Kansas over Connecticut in the final.

He's a ****ing goon.

Right, thats why he's got a less talented team in the Final 4 two consecutive years.....

Want to know why he's a genius? Because his teams are always more prepared then the opposing teams despite being undersized and less athletic. From True Hoop (last year):

Prior to getting in on the ground floor at Butler as the director of basketball operations, Stevens was on the corporate track as a young marketing exec at Eli Lilly. A decade later, he's applying analytics as the coach of an undersized team that's busting brackets all over America:

Brad Stevens is a believer in statistical analysis, which after heavily influencing baseball is making its way into basketball. At home, he pores over statistics almost as much as he does film in preparing game plans. He refers to the 6-foot-3 forward Willie Veasley as his team’s Shane Battier, the Houston Rockets player whose role as a facilitator is not often reflected in box scores but has made him a darling of the statistical set.

The result is a team that is not gifted athletically and starts only two players taller than 6-3 but that could outrebound Kansas State by 12. And force Syracuse into 18 turnovers. And hold each regional opponent to a season-low point total, neither reaching 60 points.

... In each game, there were key wrinkles in the Bulldogs’ game plan — how they tried to force Syracuse’s Andy Rautins to dribble to his right, for example, or the way they changed the positioning of their screens against Kansas State.

When center Matt Howard was in foul trouble early against Kansas State, Andrew Smith, a husky freshman who had not played in a tournament game, performed as if he had prepared all season for the moment, playing a near-flawless 12 minutes, a season high.

“We know everything we need to about our opponents, all their tendencies are broken down,” the sophomore guard Ronald Nored said. “I honestly believe every time we go on the court, we’re the most prepared team in the country.”

I could dig up more on just how good of a coach Stevens is but I'm assuming your ignorance will prove the whole exercise useless. I'm also expecting a poor, unintelligent, idiotic response from you.

Surely it stands to reason that if you've made the final four that you deserve to be there?

I don't see how you could want Florida to be there after the job Butler did on them. Remember Butler v Duke? Hardly a poor game was it and if Hayward hits that last second half court shot then it goes down as one of the best ever.

There's two times I don't like upsets. One when it is undeserved (see Morehead over Louisville) and two when it's against my team.

They shouldn't have been in the tournament. They earned their way to the final four. They are playing like one of the best 4 teams in the country and deserve to be there, no doubt about it. But how a team plays in the tournament does not validate a teams seeding or selection, because that is decided solely on how they played before the tournament.

I'm a Butler fan, but I don't really think they should have been as low as an 8 seed based on their resume and them making the final four doesn't mean they should have been a better seed. Just like all of the #1 seeds deserved the #1 seed even if they didn't live up to it in the tournament.

So why bother having a tournament? The point is that if you knock out the other teams and get to the final 4 then you're in the best 4 at that time and that's all that matters.

The polls mean nothing, the results mean everything.

What's the point in having a championship at all if the best team isn't considered the one that wins? Let's just make it like boxing or better yet have a sim on here to decide the winner.

Upset of the ages for VCU. Upset...for..the...ages.

And awesome, UNC lost. All is good now.

Now, like I have been saying...I just can't go against Butler. I'm taking Butler..and I'm taking butler to win it all.

Oh and another thing about VCU winning..now their biggest win is no longer against Duke...so that's always good for Kansas to live with. lol

As a Dawgs fan, I absolutely love Butler's chances to win the whole thing now. All of the teams left are perimeter dominant, and Butler defends the hell out of the perimeter. Take a look at the boxscore from the last 2 years and you will see that Butler is excellent at shutting down a teams best guards. This year it has been Walker, Gibbs, and Taylor (Taylor did get 22 points, but most of it was during that final hectic run and it still took him 19 shots and 12 free throws to get those 22). Vanzant and Nored make up the best defensive backcourt in the country.

By no means am I declaring Butler the champions. You can't predict what will happen in the tournament and I am most certainly not sleeping on VCU. But I really, really like their chances.

Butler has to love that they are getting VCU instead of Kansas. No offense to VCU but they just aren't as talented as Kansas (though I doubt there are many VCU fans to take offense to that comment). Butler also matches up with them really well. Butler had a ton of trouble with Florida in the post and the Morris twins would of been a nightmare for them. If Howard and Smith can establish themselves in the post early like the Morris twins did today then Butler is going to be getting a lot of open threes for Mack and others.

At this point anyone can win the friggen championship. We got a 3 seed, 4 seed, 8 seed and an 11 seed in the Final Four.

Kansas' road to the final four consisted of a 16 seed, 9 seed, 12 seed and finally an 11 seed and they couldn't get the job done.

And that is why they call it March Madness.

Holy ****!!

This guy got the elite 8 perfectly right.

Out of 320 Points he got 320, so every team that played, he got right!

On ESPN he says he has 1. And if you look at the name of the bracket it is consistent with the automatic name for someone's first bracket. He just got lucky, that's pretty much it. With 5 million brackets someone is bound to get it right.

If somehow Vcu can get by Butler there will be only one major conference left on their hitlist and thats the SEC but what, A public relations nightmare that would be if they would somehow to win it all has that ever happened before?

Well, both, he had all the teams in the elite 8 right, and I was referring to him getting all the games correct.

For ESPN brackets

9.3% brackets had Uconn in the Final Four

3.3% had Kentucky in the Final Four

.02% had Butler in the Final Four

Less than .01% had VCU in the Final Four

I almost got tickets that year (I assume you are referring to 2005). I was an Illini fan back then and was very excited. This was when I was in high school before I was a Butler student - I still support Illinois but for obvious reasons Butler has become #1 for me. Now if my team could actually finish it off once getting there...

I seriously was shocked whenver i did a bracket on a site of the lack of support kentucky got. Don't get me wrong it made me happy that i might win something but still i don't know why people over looked them a lot.

My UNC v Butler prediction can't happen now but my back up in UConn v Butler is still on the table.

Expect a UK v VCU final because of this.
