View Full Version : Would Charles Barkley Be A Good NBA GM?

Savage Sunday

He said he would be open to any front office job in the NBA if offered.

Guys like Billy King, Steve Kerr, & Kevin McHale went from TV to a NBA Front Office job previously so its not impossible.

Isaiah Thomas level? Barkley can't draft like him... Barkley would go down as the worst ever. Near MJ's level.

i don't think hed be that bad at all. if he would understand the concept of a team and chemistry and whatnot. while saying that I can only imagine the crazy trades and draft moves he would make.

hell during the all star weekend they had an alltime draft and he had the first pick. Jordan? No. Russel? No. Wilt? No. Kareem? No. He took Allen Iverson.

I think Barkley makes a lot of good points when speaking about players and seems to be good at evaluating players to some degree. I think as a GM he would rely to much on his gut instinct and not with his head, to be a successful nba gm you need the right combination of both.

Worse then Thomas probably.

he is good at making analysis and breakdown matchups. But being a GM is more than that, you need to do alot of scouting and understand the financial aspect. I dont know if he has the focus. You need to know about basically about every team. I think he would get bored. He has the knowledge but i dont know if he will put the in the time and effort.

Well he thought it was an All-Star draft, meaning they would only play in an All-Star game or something. Not complete justification, but still not as bad.

Firstly, I LOVE Barkley. That said, he offers some insightful things (I liked how he was pushing for SVG to play Gorat alongside Howard), but too often he makes the wrong calls, his predictions are seldom spot on, and I'm not sure how good an eye for talent he has. I mean, when you are watching NBA games, its one thing, it clear who can score, who can defend, who can rebound, but when you are watching college, or Europe, or even yougn guys in the league, it takes a special eye to see the guys with POTENTIAL, and not just beign athletic, or big, but also who has the drive and work ethic.

I dont think Barkley could do that. The game he played is passed by, and I think part of the way he sees the game is dated.

As for the "Thomas" level option: NOBODY WILL EVER BE THAT BAD!!!! EVER!!! That was just beyod mental!

As for other guys working telecasts, I would love to see Kenny Smith on the side lines drawing x's and o's, i think he'd be great at that. Webber would be a great guy to have as a GM, he's smart, strong fundamentals.

Dude, dude. I mean, dude. For real dude? Not even the best team in Texas? Dude? Really dude. Maybe you havent looked at the standings or watched any games (and yes, as the season has been winding down, they have acculated a few more losses in the second half of the season), but dude. I mean, dude? For real dude. The Spurs are five time champs, they have proven vets, a great coach, strogn young talent coming up. Dude. For real dude. All I have to say is this: DUDE?

He is way to biased. He would want to select players before hes even talked to them. If they're from Alabama... then forget about looking at anyone else.

Barkley: one of the best coaches in the league is down in Houston.
EJ: What's his name Charles?
Barkley: *smiles due to not having a clue*

lol barkley is entertaining on TV but no one takes anything he says seriously, he is a terrible judge of talent and would make a terrible GM.

I doubt even his buddy MJ will offer him a job in the front office.

Can you imaging MJ as owner and Charles running the front office? It will almost make Donald Sterling looked good, almost I said ...

He could take any team in this league and within 3 years be the first to have a 0-82 team. He is horrible at judging talent. He contradicts himself with every other word he says. He often does not bother to even look before commenting.

Very well said. I have doubts he would put in the man hours it takes to really be a great GM. He has that "I know it all" mentality about himself.

MJ? Seriously? Morrison? Kwambe? And the dude asked the Buls Front office to dump their drafts picks (Pippen and Grant) to get JOE WOLF!!! I dont think Barkley could do worse. The only guy who has is Thomas.

Tough question really.. Charles has some good ideas but they are overshadowed by how dumb and stubborn he often is. I mean the guy could do something stupid out of impulse or just to prove something and **** the team up. I don't know, I mean, Charles doesn't have the characteristics a person in that position should have.

Not even going to vote because the only adequate answer would be "turrible"

Isiah Thomas could draft like a madman.

If he took over a team that had superstars, capable of making him look good, then yeah probably. I wouldn't be surprised if he got drunk and traded for Dasagana Diop because one of his buddies dared him to.
