You didnt look very closely, Gortat played it perfectly he knew he was on close to the restricted circle and didnt put his heels down because of it. Good call by the refs.

I'm glad he finally got called for an offensive foul. He should foul out of most games after his 6th dunk attempt. I wasn't aware that climbing other players was allowed in the NBA.

03-21-2011, 06:21 PM
According to the rules, that's definitely a foul. Gortat was clearly outside of the restricted area circle.

tough call. Gortat's feet were outside the line (he didn't set his heel down), but his left foot appeared to be doing some disco dance move when Blake took off. I would have called an offensive foul if I were the ref

sunsfan88
03-21-2011, 06:43 PM
Gortat was outside restriction area (by like 1 cm) and got his feet set.

I am obviously biased but I still can't figure how anyone can say its not a charge.

Maybe I have bad eyes, but to me it appears that Gortats was planted with his heels on the line, only to quickly reset an inch above, or in-front of the line. Because of that last second scuffle of the heels by Gortat, I'd call blocking. Very close, could have gone either way.

I never could have noticed the intricacies of this play in real life/real time; tough call to make. Really smart defensive play by Gortat, he was tip-toe shuffling right up until the moment of contact, and remained straight up in the process.

That foul was his 6th as well. He had to take a seat, and he knew it.

Facial, here's why: Gortat tries to trick the ref by lifting up his feet so it appears that he is outside the line. It's in the rule that the defender must have his foot, from a laid-flat distance, outside the line.

foot inside by an Inch, but the ref cant see everything. if he was one inch farther, it should have been an O foul. but Gortat was planted there a while as well,

Def a foul on Gortat but calls go both ways all year. Blake's had some poster dunks that shoulda been pushoffs this year too.

apet8945
03-21-2011, 11:34 PM
The only reason Javie called it an offensive foul was cause Griffin stared him down like he wanted to kill him when Griffin got elbowed on defense and there was no call. Javie didn't like it so he went and talked to Del Negro probably to tell him to stop doing that. Next trip down the floor was the dunk, and Javie didn't even hesitate. He was gonna call that an offensive foul no matter what. On the replay you can clearly see Javie not even looking down to see if Gortats feet were set or outside the circle.

Lol haters in this thread.
1. If his foot is doing a little dance, then he clearly isn't planted. Dude was moving the whole time.
2. Guy stands on his toes but his heels are over the restricted circle, he's in the restricted circle.
3. When its a close call, the whistle should automatically go to the player who just did a RIDICULOUS dunk. All the superstars get those calls. Look into Jordan's highlight reel, he has plenty of dunks and lay ups that should have been offensive fouls, but were so ridiculous that the refs can't call it.

Bottom line is Steve Javie is a ******** (ask spurs fans). That foul was Griffin's third in 1 minute, and came one play earlier, Griffin took an elbow and stared down Javie for the no call. This charge was Javies personal vendetta against Griffin.

He was mad cause it caused him to FOUL OUT. Atleast he is a PF and has an excuse not to have a refined jumpshot while Lebrick LIVES ON DUNKS/LAYUPS so I wouldnt be talking. Blake probably already has a better jumpshot than Lebrick

1. wrong - gortat established position. even if his foot turned a little to the side it doesnt make it a blocking foul.
2. wrong - if his heel isnt on the line he's not "in" the restricted area just like not stepping on the out of bounds line is not out of bounds.
3. wrong -Dont make the call because it was a sick dunk? come on now. It was still a sick dunk wasnt it?

DodgerBulls
03-22-2011, 02:23 AM
I would have to say... blocking. Yes, his feet just made it outside the restricted area, but he didn't get there in time. His left foot is still moving when Blake already took off.

But to stay on topic, it was an offinsive foul. It was very close and could have been called either way, but it was an offensive foul. Also, most of us who are saying offensive foul doesnt mean we are hating on Blake, that is just what happened. Is Blake a great dunker? Yes. Was that an offensive foul? Yes. Its that simple. But IMO Blake does get wayyyyyy overhyped by the media (especially ESPN), and I think the only reason he is, is cuz he is a 6'10 giant that has nice hops.

mavwar53
03-22-2011, 10:56 AM
he was moving when blake started his move to go up and dunk so it is obviously a bad call and should have counted, and this is coming from the point of view that I don't really even care about the dunk, it could have been a layup and I'd say the same thing.

My biggest question is, why is a 7 footer trying to take a charge, big men in basketball have become such "kitty cats". Seriously Gortat is one of the biggest (height and weight) men in the league and he's taking a charge.

While I agree for the most part, but if your not Dwight Howard, and maybe even then, if Gortat tries to swat that he gets called for a foul 99 out of 100 times. BTW, live it looked like an offensive foul, but I had to rewatch it to see that Gortat's feet were hovering over the restricted area. It was a tough call, but like people have said over and over, blake has a ton of highlight dunks that are really offensive fouls.

This will all be a part of Blake's learning curve. He has to know that if he has five fouls, taking off from the free throw line for a dunk may not be the best thing for his team in that situation. The last thing you want is to foul out on an offensive foul.

i wasn't aware that you had to be still like a statue in order to draw offensive fouls.

Phenomenonsense
03-22-2011, 12:11 PM
Guess I'll lay a little logic on you. Gortat was still moving after Griffin jumped. That's not allowed in a charge call, therefore, no foul. However, at full speed it definitely looks like an offensive foul

Phenomenonsense
03-22-2011, 12:12 PM
i wasn't aware that you had to be still like a statue in order to draw offensive fouls.

You do. You can't move your foot and get a charge when someone is going to the rack unless they lower their shoulder. Nothing wrong with the call in real time. But Gortat was moving, and his heel was on the restricted line.
