Hello Everyone,

Welcome to the playoff voting for the PSD NBA Redraft. Every year we basketball fans enjoy taking part in a PSD game called the NBA redraft where over 60 users participate. The point of the redraft is to draft the best team possible and the obvious goal is to be crowned champion by the NBA forum. You will notice that the team name do not represent current NBA teams. The reason why we avoided this is because we wanted to avoid a bias that exists with current team names. For example, a team that had the Chicago Bulls team name would probably experience a higher volume of votes than letís say the Memphis Grizzlies team simply because they have the larger fan base on PSD. As a result we got rid of that bias completely. Please take the time to review both teams, look at the depth chart and read the write ups to formalize your own opinion on which team would win a 7 game series. As far as injuries go, they will not be playing a factor in this Redraft though players that are continually hurt and have not had a healthy season in quite some time should be viewed as different players than what they once were (Yao, Oden, Roy etc). Thank you for voting and enjoy the match ups.

Lexington Write Up

Good Luck to Syracuse.

A good matchup between these two teams. When looking at our starters between the two teams, there is quite a difference. Syracuse has not much to write about other then Kobe. The Shaq Kobe combinations would not work this far into their careers. Shaq is not what he used to be. Brand has turned around his game the last couple year but still not the greatest big especially when he has Shaq next to him. They have an inexperienced pg running the show with Conley. There front court is terrible considered to Durant, Scola, and Nene. Our team has a much better front court that would dominate Syracuse. Nene has too much speed for Shaq or Z to handle. Scola
can keep Brand away from the basket with his outside game. Beasley would never be able to stay with Durant. They would be too much. Conley may be
a little better then Sessions but not enough to make up for their less superior front court. Kobe is Kobe, he will get his points but Salmons is a decent defender and we can use Corey Brewer off the bench to slow him down and give Salmons a break. We feel like our team is aggresive and balaned for Syracuse to handle.

PG

Sessions vs Conley

Both of these guys are young, talented upcoming pg's. Their stats are similar to eachother. They both score around 14 ppg and 6 assists. Conley has a little
better numbers because he has started all year. Sessions just recently started and his PPG and assist totals have risen dramatically. They both won't have to run offenses by themselves which is nice. Kobe needs a PG that can shoot the 3. Conley really isn't that guy. Our team is so balanced that Sessions would just need to play solid and he would be successful.

SG

Kobe vs Salmons

There is not much to say about this matchup. Obviously Kobe is gonna get his points. Salmons is a decent defender that would not allow Kobe to absolutely go off. You can say that Salmons will not score anything because he will be against Kobe. I disagree with that. Kobe may have to play Durant a little bit because of the huge mismatch between Durant and Beasley. This will leave Salmons to drain 3's all day. Kobe wins the matchup but it will still not help Syracuse advance.

SF

Durant vs Beasley

Well here is the matchup that will make this series a win for Lexington. Beasley is a decent offensive player. His points this year have come from him being able to be the main offensive weapon. He is selfish and would not work with Kobe. His defense is terrible and could never stay with Durant. Durant would go off probably more then Kobe would go off on Salmons. You could put a defensive guy on Durant but our balance would still do well because of the mismatch at bigs. Huge advantage for the Maynes.

PF

Scola vs Brand

A good matchup between two good pf's. Both score and rebound the ball well. Brand is a little undersized for the PF position but would be okay. Scola would bring Brand away from the basket so that Nene could work on Shaq. Scola is one of the most underrated PF's in the league. He would works well with being the second man in this system. Durant would be taking off on Beasley which would need Brand's weak side help. This would leave Scola to himself under the basket making him perfect.

C

Nene vs Shaq

Two big men at the Center positions. Kobe with Shaq worked 10 years ago. This would not be the case 10 years later. Shaq has slowed down ridiculously compared to what he used to be. He has a litmited offensive game and is too slow to stay with Nene. Nene has played like an All Star this year. He may one of the hardest to stop when he gets moving near the basket. He can hit a jumper when needed as well. He may not be the greatest rebounder or defender but Shaq is someone that would not help that.

Bench

Syracuse's bench is terrible. Peja is their best bench player. Yikes! He can shoot the 3 every once in awhile but certainly not the 20 ppg player he used to be. Z is old as well which would hurt the Brand and Shaq combo. There would be no help against the younger Scola and Nene, Ed Davis is decent for being a rookie. He may be the only guy I like on their bench. Our bench has a stud rookie in Bledsoe, a good defender in Brewer, a 3pt specialist in Bonner, and a veteran PG in Bibby. Our bench is too much for Syracuse.

We should win this 7 game series

Syracuse did not send in a Write Up

The backcourt of Lexington is their weakness in this matchup and the frontcourt of Syracuse is their weakness in this matchup. KD and Kobe should both score with ease (though Salmons would do a better job compared to MB).

GREATNESS ONE

Totally forgot to send in our write up. Had it all good to go too. Don't know the rules about that, we'll see if MHC will let us add it.

Good luck Lexington  Interesting match up.

Close. Syracuse would have won easily, but I don't like their bench at all, so they just barely get the edge.

Lexington wins this one... just minor details will decide the game. And Kobe's clutch factor might shift this for Syracuse, but I think the Durant-Scola-Nene frontcourt is too much for Syracuse in a 7 game series

Lexington beats the chuckers end of story. Between the inefficient Beasley and "I am the team Kobe," there aren't any shots for anyone else.

Tough match up here for sure. I think Lexington has the better team and Duran against Beasley is big mismatch. I am not sure Syracuse can take this.

The heck with it

Guard match-up: This is our biggest advantage. Sessions is coming of a 1.1 Win Share season, in a season where he played all 82 games! He isn’t having any positive impact on the league’s worst team. Salmons is shooting under 40% from the field this season. He has a PER of 11.8. This has to be the most unproductive back court in the playoffs. Conley and Kobe are great defenders and would torture Sessions and Salmons on that side of the ball.

And on the defensive side of the court, it isn’t much better. Kobe and Conley are going to go right around these guys. Bibby has been reduced to a spot up three point shooter. He’s an atrocious defender and can’t get around anyone on offense. Eric Bledose is a really inefficient high volume shooter, who also brings no defense to the table. His shooting percentages are just abysmal, and “passing” is not in his vocabulary.

Ultimately Kobe and Conleys combined 14.3 Win Shares Vs. Salmons and Sessions 5.7 Combined win shares tells the whole story.

Front Court: I’m sure Lexington is going to tell you how old we are down low. Yes, Z and Shaq are old. However, they’re still perfectly effective. Shaq is still a 0.175 WS/48 player and Z is at 0.121. That’s still being very productive. Nene and Scola aren’t guys who can create their own shot. Both are guys who for their careers are assisted on 70+% of their shots. Thing is, there aren’t any playmakers on this offense, and Shaq, Z, Brand and Davis are all big bodies who know how to protect the rim. Those 4 guys are all plus paint defenders. Shaq still has a Block% of 4.4, which is right at his career average, and he’s one of the greatest blockers EVER. Z’s is also at 4.4. If qualified, that’s top 10 in the league caliber. Kobe and Conley are both great defenders themselves. Lexington’s bigs need playmakers to get them looks, and there aren’t playmakers on this team. We have great rim defenders, and a ton of depth down low.

Brand is a more diverse offensive player and Scola and Nene. He actually can create his own shot, he can shoot from anywhere on the court. Almost exactly 25% of his shots come from at the rim, 25% from 3-9 feet, 25% from 10-15 and 25% from 16+. That’s tremendous range and diversity from a big man. He’s been the biggest difference for the 76ers this year, and not only has he returned to his all-star caliber play, but he’s returned to being a team leader.

Nene's eFG% and TS% are both nearly 70 points higher than his career average. He simply cannot be expected to be as efficient as he has been this season. Brand's 7.5 WS are much better than Scola's 4.7. Both Nene and Scola are TERRIBLE shot blockers, and considering how every single player on our team can get in the paint with such ease, that’s a HUGE problem. Also, while our Centers Shaq and Big Z are old, that has not stopped them from out-rebounding Nene this season
-Big Z 15.0 TRB%
-Shaq 14.6 TRB%
-Nene 14.2 TRB%.

Their front court depth is very weak as well. Bonner cannot rebound to save his life, and Craig Smith is undersized and provides next to nothing.

Durant is obviously the person we have to worry about. They have no way to stop Kobe, and I’m sure they’ll argue the same about us. If any SF in the league has the length and frame to stay in front of and get a hand in Durant’s face, it’s Beasley. He has no big men behind him in Minnesota, so it’s hard to tell how good his defense really is, but he posted a DRtg of 103 last year to go along with his 4 defensive win shares. Beasley has held Durant to 46% shooting this season, and has forced 3.3 TOs a game from him. Durant is going to get his, but I’m just not so sure who else will. Beasley did post a 30 point, 9 rebound and 7 assist game against the Thunder himself. Let’s not forget how terrible Durant’s defense is himself.

And ask any person who watches Durant extensively. He's great off the ball. There is not a player on this team that he can feed off of. 65% of his shots are assisted. There is no way that he can do that on this roster. Who is going to create for him? Who can he feed off of? There is no Russell Westrbook on this team? Salmons is a guy who himself likes to run around screens. He doesn't like to create for others. He and Durant look to do the same exact thing. They can't feed off of each other.

At the end of the day this series would be won by the Syracuse Prarie Stars. Defensively they are better and Offensively they are better. Their backcourt obliterates Lexington's backcourt, while Lexington's front court has little to no advantage over Syracuse.

I think that the difference in this series would be the back-court. I'll admit that Lexington has better big men, but the back-court of Syracuse is considerably superior, and in a long series, a good back-court is necessary, and I just don't have faith in Sessions and Salmons running the floor like Conley and Kobe, plus I hate to be the one to say it, but Kobe can close out a game, which is HUGE. I would take the 'Cuse here in 6.

I went for Syracuse and broke the tie. Another very close match up. Really came down to Kobe though. He alone can win games and it's not like he doesn't have a degree of talent around him.

Lexington's trio of Scola-Nene-KD is one of, if not the best trio in the RD. They get my vote
