View Full Version : Who do you think the most underrated player in the league is?

There are many, but I am picking Luol Deng. He is probably the most consistent player in the league being the 3rd scoring option. However, he can easily be a #2 on anyone's team.

Westbrook is good, but he has been getting a lot of hype so I can't throw him in the underrated crew.

Russy was more in regards to the ESPN/the media in general... Just never really hear about him as a top player because he's playing in KD's shadow.

Lu was the first to pop into my head. He never gets credit. But Afflalo is up there. Iguadala is another guy.

I'd say it's between Affalo and Deng.......both players put up good numbers night in and night out and never get credit for it.

I like Ellis, but the guy shoots the rock 30 times a game. He's bound to score points that way.

but shoots at a high FG% and 3 PT % for off guards in the league. so thats what you want in your top scorers. he is quality and quantity not just quantity, one of the most efficient scorers in all the league and does that without going to the line barely ever compared to the other top scorers. its actually pretty remarkable imo.

kyle lowry comes to mind. but there are just so many good young pgs now.

holiday, jennings, tyreke, curry, rose, westbrook, rando, harris, and i completely think lowry should be included in this list. hes stalky and doesnt play as flashy, but the dude had an incredibly high ceiling coming into villenova.

i mean it seems like 3/4 the teams have such good pgs though, so its so easy to get overlooked at the position.

Same thing can be said about Durant, Westbrook, and Kobe. All of them are efficient volume scorers and Monta is no different. Not a lot of people realize that he was a TERRIBLE jumpshooter let alone 3 point shooter early in his career...he has definitely improved. Regardless of what people say, the Warriors are worst without him this season and I bet Warriors fans would agree.

it ellis. and the argument that he shoots a lot to get his points is stupid. You dnt need to look to far to see a comparison of someone who does the same. Which is (Rose and Westbrook) Ellis is a better scorer than both players.

1-Andre Iguadala, one of the best wing defenders and non PG passers,he's Lebron James with no offensive game.
2-Luis Scola,he never gets mentionned among top PF,he isn't top 10 but he's pretty good(18 points and 8 rebounds)
3-Kris Humphries,Mr Kardashian is averaging 12.8 points and 13.3 rebounds per 36 minutes with good defense.

Since I think everyone already covered everyone I would put ahead of him in this list...I'll put out my homer pick of Shawn Marion. The guy could be a starter for plenty of clubs and willingly comes off the bench (and the players who start at SF for us are worse than him, a combination of Peja, Brewer, Cardinal and Stevenson have all started at SF since Butler was injured). He shoots an incredibly high percentage and positions himself really well for rebounds. And he almost always is the guy for the Mavs who has to do the dirty work on defense. His defensive assignment is Kobe, Melo, Manu, Lebron, Durant, etc. Hell, he played in the Knicks game, limiting Melo to a pretty ugly night despite bruised ribs from a flagrant two the night before in New Orleans.

3rd in the league in steals and over 5 assists a game as a shooting guard? He does focus most of his energy on the court for the offensive side of the ball I will give you that but so would any other player in the league who is a top scorer who plays on a team that only plays an 8 man roster.

stats say otherwise

I'd love to see those stats you talk about considering the fact he plays more minutes that any player in the league and has played in Every game this year. Dude is our work horse, plain and simple. But show me your stats and ill agree with you.

Don't want to turn this thread into Bash - Ellis thread but ok.

Lets compare Ellis and Curry

Player On court Off court Net
Curry -1.4 -5.7 +4.3
Ellis -3.9 +1.5 -5.4

http://www.82games.com/1011/1011GSW.HTM

Warriors are better when Ellis is off the court and better when curry is on the floor.

Curry is much better player than Ellis and win shares per 48 minutes confirm it....Curry is a distinct leader with .131 WS/48 while Ellis is 6th on warriors with .088 WS/48.

And your point is what? You can argue he is the best player on his team and the most consistent, yet is over shadowed by Kobe Bryant. Every year Kobe is top 5 in MVP voting while Gasol has been the work horse of that team. You never see any Gasol for MVP talk or see him get most of the credit for the Lakers success. He gets the job done every year weather it was with Memphis or L.A.

It took 4 pages for someone to say the most underrated player in the game. How sad.. Guy averages 24 ppg, 3 rpg, 4.5 apg on great shooting from everywhere on the floor... and to top it of is a great defender and he was 8th or 9th in All star voting for guards. It's surprising how underrated he is.

Eric Gordon definitely is better than Monta Ellis who plays no defense. Eric has shut down Ellis twice this year and done a fantastic job against all the other elite guards including outplaying Kobe and Wade.
