What? Are you serious? You are assuming he will? That is just stupid. Lebron will no doubt be starting as long as he is healthy. I could see Melo also starting, simply because he will get every vote in New York, but he probably won't actually deserve it.

the people who would say yes to this question are the same people who would vote for lebron to start

Swashcuff
03-07-2011, 11:06 AM
It is absurd because LeBron James has consistently been in the top 3 vote getters for each of the last 5 ASGs. Carmelo Anthony will NOT start ahead of LeBron. He will start next to him but not even his New York State of Mind and all LeBron's hate will be enough for get him and Amar'e more votes than LeBron James. The only way Carmelo Anthony starts over LeBron James is if LeBron doesn't play in the game because of injury. Even then LeBron would have received more votes than Melo.

Understood OP?

I know you're not a Heat fan, but your stance and posts in this thread are way too aggressive.

The question is not as crazy as you make it out to be. Everyone on the planet thinks that LeBron is better than Melo (likely including Melo), but the All Star game is voted by the fans. Fans are fickle and have been known to make ill-advised decisions. Thus, it is not impossible (particularly because Melo's popularity is on the rise and LeBron is taking major backlash that seems to be increasing). Do I think there is any chance that Melo gets more votes? No, I don't. But I also don't think that the question is so ridiculous that it warrants your response.

1. Have you seen the posting history of the OP. He starts threads that insult a certain player (LeBron James).
2. Every unbiased non hater fan knows that Melo is not going to start and ASG over LeBron James its just not going to happen. That's like if Derrick Rose went to the West and the question came up would he start and ASG ahead of Kobe Bryant. That's not going to happen.
3. You speak of backlash. Who in the last decade in the NBA had to deal with more backlash than Kobe Bryant for his alleged legal issues? Yet still didn't he start every ASG since then?

I don't understand the problem with the question. He is not saying Carmelo is better than LBJ (and hopefully doesn't think that). But it's reasonable to think that because he plays in NY he could possibly get more votes. Derek Jeter was voted into last year's MLB All Star game....

Yeah but I don't think the Knicks are the most popular team in the world. I'm not trying to hate or bait or anything. But they haven't won anything in a while. Maybe,

Considering the overwhelming amount of Knicks fans there are now considering they have both STAT & MELO!! If the Heat continue to lose games i don't see why MELO wouldn't get the start over that over rated **** head anyway. People can also start to not like LBJ more cause of how he abandoned Cleveland and his family and also by promised CAVS fans that he would not go anywhere without a ring. So don't be surprised if MELO out votes "THE QUEEN"

Kenny
03-07-2011, 01:50 PM
This is a pretty silly question, but the one thing I would add is, New York voting for these All Star games doesn't vote like the smaller market cities. Garnett was beating Amare out by a wide margin untill the Garden started really telling fans to vote for him. So it's not like "oh this guys on New York they will get all the fan voting".

No way. The NBA is way too heavily invested in LBJ promotion. Not to mention that LeBron will probably put up better numbers anyhow.

Brooklyn Mets
03-07-2011, 02:15 PM
being a huge Knicks fan and huge Carmelo fan I would still have to say no because LeBron is widely considered to be a better all-around basketball player than Carmelo so it would make sense for him to start..

but if you are specualating that Carmelo would get more fan votes than LeBron now that he is in New York than it would be a lot closer but still probably go to LeBron..

2011 All-Star Votes
Denver Nuggets' Carmelo Anthony (945,720)
Miami Heat's LeBron James leads all Eastern Conference forwards with 1,518,807 votes, followed by the New York Knicks' Amar'e Stoudemire (1,143,391)

so maybe Carmelo would go up a little and LeBron would go down a little but I still think LeBron would take it..

better question might be who will make it alongside LeBron, STAT or MELO???

Lebron is way better, plays for a team with a large fan base, and is more popular. He's already established himself as one of the best players in the game (if not the best) while Melo has received a lot of criticism for his game on whether he is elite or not.

We're talking about the NBA here.

That Chinese kid for the Wizards can be the starter. One season (half season I guess) he puts up good stats, he'll be the starter. I still won't know his name but he'll be the starter. Book it. Yao Ming would have started for the West if he could wear shoes.

If it was based on performance and elevating your team... I guess I'd have to see the record of the two teams and see what kind of impact Melo has on NY. Right now his Knicks haven't broken into the top 4 seeds in the east so I'd say James for sure if the voting was right now... it's not though since this thread is speculating on next year?

Kind of a screwed up question because Melo "just" came over to NY so there isn't much to measure yet on how he has helped his team and if he is playing better All-star team ball than James. So James for now...

towlsmoke420
03-07-2011, 08:01 PM

I don't understand the problem with the question. He is not saying Carmelo is better than LBJ (and hopefully doesn't think that). But it's reasonable to think that because he plays in NY he could possibly get more votes. Derek Jeter was voted into last year's MLB All Star game....

Thats different. Jeter plays shortstop, which is a weak position. There is no other player that makes you say "That guy HAS TO start in the ASG."

Lebron is a guy who HAS TO start in the ASG. Hes just too good. If he didn't start (assuming he had playing like he normally does), it would be by far the stupidest ASG occurence in history.

Melo will mobilize the NY voter base, I'm not saying Melo is the better player but Yao isn't better than anyone this year and he was voted in as a starter.

The NBA all star process is dumb, it's a popularity contest and does not adequately reflect the most deserving candidates.

With that being said, Im not certain the Lebron is as widely supported as he once was (his move to Miami was enough to change my 10 year old's mind about him) so it's definitely a possibility.

Thats teams homecourt advantage is pathetic

You gotta remember its the votes that do it, and knicks have a much bigger fan base..... Plus all the lebron haters who are fans of other teams will probably vote melo...... It could definetly happen... Not saying its right... But it could defiently happen

top 15.... Lmao... Your crazy, melos value is top 5 i this leauge....

Take all the players who play sg and sf in this league theres only five or six guys in those positions who are absolute stars and he is one of them..... And only like 2 of them are better all around players when comes to rebounding and shooting

Only homer Knick fans think Melo is a top 5 player in the League.

Are you saying the top 5 goes something like LBJ, Wade, Kobe, Dirk...and Melo?

no, because Lebron is flat out better than Melo, not to mention that Lebron gets 2 million plus votes even when the whole NBA fan base hates him and Melo only gets 1.3 million. of course having a NY fan base behind Melo will help, but Lebron's all star votes will keep going up as people care less about what he did.

Did Melo start over Kevin Durant? No?

Of course he won't start over LBJ.

Yea Carmelo will end up the better player.

:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Well he better hurry up, learn how to pass, rebound and dunk like a madman. Carmelo will always be in Lebrons shadow. Melo would rather be a starter in the all star game than win a championship. Lebron is one of the greatest ever a global icon. Would never happen Knick fans are in a bubble

it really doesn't matter who the better player is when the NBA lets a world wide vote where stupid fans still vote for Yao Ming, and Yi Jianlian! I'd say Melo might get more votes based on those crazies in NY voting daily and making it happen.

If Lebron fails horribly, and carmelo actually gets out of the first round. there might be a chance of carmelo wining over lebron. There is knicks fans all over (all of a sudden) and perhaps there is a chance.... also there has been more terrible votes for all stars
