would be funny if we lost today. Off 2 emotional, huge games...back at home...tired, complacent....why not?

seems like a trap

Draco
03-07-2011, 01:25 PM
because the bulls employ too many professionals to expect a let down because of complacency. they're regarded as one of the hardest working teams in the NBA. sure, it could happen but winning against a Paul-less hornets team at home is more likely.

Yeah plus the Hornets are a sub 500 road team(with the Bulls being a very good home team) and without Chris Paul. There's no doubt this is a game the Bulls "should" win. But it just depends on if they show up to play or not. The fact the Bulls aren't the number one seed in the East, right now is because they have lost too many games that they "should" have won. Which is why they have two loses to the Bobcats, and then loses to Nets, Raptors, Clippers and Warriors. If they win 4 of 6 those 47-14 and have a one game lead on the Celtics. Heck they probably took the 76ers and Knicks too lightly early in the season too, even though those teams are now above 500. So if the Bulls want to hold onto that number 2 seed, and want any chance to catch the Celtics for the number 1 seed. Well they have to win most of the remaining games like this, because they have a decent amount of them left.

Thankfully, they're so content shooting threes rather than getting in the paint that they're actually giving us a chance.

Derrick Rose now is 0 for his last 17 from three. 10 for his last 63 dating back over a month. That's 16%. Crazy bad, and he chucks a TON. I wonder when he'll give it up/pull it back a bit, or if he won't? He started the year on fire, so at least he has that to rest some confidence on.

3-point shooting isn't his strength, so he'll go through stretches like that, ie Lebron's recent shooting slump from 3. But he shouldn't take that out of his repertoire, that would hurt him more then anything.

+1 the Grizz are the hottest team in the NBA right now.... They remind me alot of the Thunder from last year... With a healthy Rudy Gay they can beat anybody. Now I'm not sure if they're capable of beating the big 3 in the West (SA, DAL, LA) over a 7 game series, but they can compete with anybody...

I've noticed that. I have league pass, so I can watch their games. As long as they win I guess. They're up 3 already when they were down 7 not too long ago. They can get hot in a hurry and steal games they probably weren't supposed to win. Didn't work out too well against MEM though, unfortunately.

They were impressive on both ends, although they gave up 109 pts. I've noticed that since Chauncey and 'Melo showed up, they've been a lot more physical defensively, fouling guys hard. Anthony Carter has been very good on that end too.

Dude, what? The last 3 minutes had no field goals/assists from D. Rose. There was one unassisted bucket by Noah followed by Derrick Rose missing. And then Derrick Rose missing some more.

On the other end, Bulls got stop after stop (Hornets didn't score in the final 3+ minutes), so then the intentional foul free throws came in the last minute. There was no D. Rose penetrating/assisting to the bigs. Stop making **** up.

In the 4th quarter, the Bulls only managed 5 field goals. 2 were made by Rose, 2 were assisted by Rose, and the 3rd which you mentioned above was indirectly created by Rose. Rose missed a layup, but because he drew 3 defenders on the play there was no one available to box out Noah who had an easy rebound and a put back. Rose was their entire 4th quarter offense.

OH? Well then clearly, MVP!

Stat & Melo both went Nova. Ridiculous efficiency for those two tonight.

too bad they couldn't do that against the cavs.

NO vs. CHI = Ugly Win
I have a bad feeling if Chris Paul were out there this would have been one of those lost games that the Bulls seem to have given up lately. Take it Bulls. The defense was solid for most of the game but what happened to the scoring in the 4th?
Amazingly poor shooting games for both Korver and Deng. Deng's worst shooting game of the year and Korver's first game without a 3 since January 10th.

Korver went all Mike Miller on the Bulls.

the trades orlando made imo cost them a legit chance @ the finals. arenas was a bust and gortat is a beast. yes carter and lewis arent doing great but they were doing great with orlando. krich is ok but 18ppg isnt worth all they gave up.

They did. The defensive effort was just terrible that night.

actually they did do that against the Cavs. Amare had 41 and 9 Melo had like 29 on 10-16 shooting... Defense lost them that game.

Hardly going nova then if we're talking about defending the cavs. Anthony was 9 of 22 in the first of the recent two.. not too far off from Rose's 8 of 21 tonight.

they could have gone 20 for 20 and losing to the cavs twice in recent games would still take the luster off that performance.

Even with a recent slump, that Boozer guy is averaging 18+, and Deng is averaging near 18 while Noah's at 13.

They don't have a couple super stars and a bunch of trash. They have a balanced team so even when one guy can't hit a shot and goes something like 1-18, the rest of the team can pick them up and carry them to a win.

if rose slumps or is injured, who has the ability to create their own shot?
not noah, he's a clean up guy.
boozer has some post up/mid range game. deng is more of a slasher/spot up shooter.
who else?

Korver is quite the shooter. Brewer's shooting surprisingly good this year. Watson has shown he can run the offense admirably.

That's somewhat of a stupid question though. If Lebron goes down, Miami is screwed. If Carmelo goes down, NY is screwed. If Pierce goes down, BOS is probably screwed, but their bench might be good enough to overcome. Bos and CHI both have the benches that can support losing a player for a single game, for a series there isn't a single team that can overcome the loss of it's superstar.

You don't have guys on the same level as those guys, you just hope others fill in admirably enough to do the job.

Go ahead and claim that Wade and Bosh would win a series against CHI, BOS, ORL or ATL. I'd love to see Mike Miller step in and make up for that loss.

korver relies on someone setting up him for a shot.

lebron goes down, there's wade/bosh.
carmelo goes down, there's STAT.
boston has plenty of depth. i don't even have to name names.

point is, rose creates so much and is vital to their offense.
he is more valuable to the bulls than the other aforementioned players are to their teams. that's why the bulls were still winning when boozer and noah were out.
you think noah or boozer can carry if it were rose out for several months earlier in the season?

It's not those one guys going down that hurts, it's the loss in production from the guy going in to replace them. Especially in NY and Miami where the backups are notably weak. Hence why I said Boston is the best chance to stay strong with a loss.

Rose does create a lot, but Watson as a backup isn't as bad as the drop off from Lebron to MM or from Melo to whoever they'd put in to replace him. Of course Rose is as valuable to his team as those aforementioned players, but the replacement the Bulls have isn't as much of a drop as those would be.

in a team with multiple stars, as a coach, i'd be looking to one of them to pick up the slack, not the bench (as will most coaches in my humble, non-professional opinion).

subs are going to split the minutes to fill the void, but your starters are the ones who will have the offensive sets run for them.

The bench guy will be put into the starting lineup. The drop off is in production regardless. Offensively and defensively in Lebron's case. Wade and Bosh aren't going to start scoring 15+ more a night when Lebron is out. Stoudemire isn't going to suddenly average 50 with Carmelo out. And the surrounding group isn't a strong to help in picking up production.

You can look to Wade to score 40 every night, it still wouldn't win on a team with that group surrounding him.

If Bosh struggles, let's say, he scores 15 points, do you expect Wade + Lebron to score 40 each?

Well, better to have a semi-par game against an opponent down on their luck with a player in street clothes than to play like crap "and" lose. Not knocking every Bull from last night but geesh, ice water was in their veins and it made it's way into the ball on almost every touch in the 4th with messy consequences. Hoping they finish stronger on Wednesday.

Couldn't agree more. It was the perfect game to have cold outings from big shooters. Thankfully Boozer had one of his better games in a while. They are in the middle of 5 games in 7 days, so hopefully they can control the Charlotte game a little better so Deng, Rose and Noah can get rest before the back to back of ATL/Utah this weekend. Luckily they'll finally get some rest after that.

and you're assuming the replacement guy is going to score 0?

much more likely that the heat can win with lebron out than the bulls with rose out, agree?

No.

I'll take Watson in the starting lineup distributing to Deng, Boozer, Noah, etc with a strong bench still including Brewer, Korver, Butler, Asik, Thomas and Gibson any day over a starting lineup of Chalmers/Bibby, Wade, MM, Bosh, Dampier with the Heat miserable bench.
