What are the early thoughts?

For me it was difficult, because there are some guys that went from solid to star like Kevin Love, but some would say he was just as good last year but wasn't given the minutes. Then there are guys that were off the map to a key go to guy (Roy Hibbert, Wes Matthews, Dorrell Wright).

I think mine's got to be Eric Gordon. He took the biggest leap forward for me.

You're right, not a superstar, but a star.

i think the true one is Wes Matthews
it's not like he didnt play last year. he really improved his game

guys like westbrook and love have better numbers this year than last, but they were well above average last year as well

You're right, not a superstar, but a star.

Kevin Love is a superstar. 21 PPG and 15.5 RPG. Thats unmatchable by any player in the NBA.

this is going to sound crazy unless you watch alot of Magic games- but I think Dwight Howard.

his post moves have improved so much since last year. The confidence he has in his post offense, and especially the drive that he is playing with this year. He is taking things more seriously, embracing his role as a leader, and you can tell working with Ewing is starting to pay dividends offensively. The thing is, his improvement is harder to quantify with numbers because he was already getting such good numbers last year, but I'm telling you- if you watch alot of Magic games dude has really polished off his game.

Kevin Love quite easily IMO.

I defend Love more than most (only Hawkeye15 defends him more than I do TBH) on here but I won't say that he's a superstar quite yet. Superstar's aren't in the discussion for MIP only they are in the discussion for MVP.

Kevin Love has been the most improved because he has gone from a role player to a superstar. The MVP talks will not happen because of the lack of talent surrounding him and therefore his team is absolutely horrific. He has more consecutive double-doubles than any other player in the history of the NBA. What more evidence is there?

First off get you facts straight before you decide to get into a serious discussion with someone who knows basically every single statistical accomplishment of Kevin Love thus far this season.

So go brush up on your history and come again ok pumpkin.

Where the hell is Gortat's name on the list?

He's a top 5 center in the West & he gets no recognition?

So then why isn't he starting?

Chemistry reasons. Lopez needs Nash to play well. Gortat doesn't.
Lopez starts, plays 5-6 minutes in the first quarter and sits the rest of the half while Marcin plays the rest. Still starters minutes.

Frye should get recognition on this as I mentioned in the other thread. Should he win? Absolutely not. This is Love's without question. But Frye has improved enough where he makes a true impact on the game. He's no longer a spot-up shooter.

I thought about Rose in this, but he's already all over the MVP discussions, and while he may win that award, I don't think he'll get this one.

He'll be next season bro.

The only reason he'll even crack the top 10 this season is because of injuries to Yao Ming and Chris Kaman. Tim Duncan, Tyson Chandler, Nene, Marc Gasol and Al Jefferson are still all better than him IMO.

2nd year players don't normally get as much consideration as player with 3+ years experience.

actually after looking at this list twice it could be Derozan, E Gordon, Westbrook, D Wright or Matthews. Thats a tough freaking call to be honest

Kevin Love is Mark Madsen. Mark Madsen with more PT that is.
He looks so generic he should get a tattoo or a mohawk or something

and had Eric Gordon not gotten injured he is the best player on this list...he is lightyears ahead of Demar Derozan

**** NO. He is shooting 4% LOWER this season, is playing 11 more minutes a game, and is only avg 1 more rebound and .5 assists more a game. Thats not improving in my book.

It has to be Love, then Gordon. DWright has also seen a HUGE dip in Shooting.

Since when do you see a superstar on a lottery team?

Well I guess Dwyane Wade a few years back but Wade is a top 3 player...

Love is a STAR, not a superstar.

LeBron, Kobe, Wade, Howard, Rose, Dirk and Durant are superstars

toss up between gordon and love for me. voted gordon because he doesnt get much appreciation here

I'd toss it up between Demar and Kevin Love I'll lean towards Love though since his numbers are insane!

Swashcuff
03-02-2011, 09:17 AM
Duncan & Jefferson are essentially PFs. Marc Gasol is not better. And Chandler & him ae about the same, I wouldnt list either on top of the other.

Ok so he's getting starter's minutes and averaging 11 and 8 with solid (not spectacular stop overrating him Tyson Chandler's D has been on another tier) with a top 5 PG and a system in which leads to a high rebounding rate and he seldom plays alongside a solid rebounding big.

Duncan and Jefferson both have played exclusively C this season they are both Cs. Marc Gasol may not have the numbers but that is a direct result of his teammates. Gasol is better at every facet of the C game than Gortat with the exception of post defense. Then again you are a exercising your right to be a homer so I won't even try to sway your opinion. I do know however that the more logical Suns fan hold my view on this.

It's only 31 games dude. Give it some time before you start crowning better than guys who are not only established but all have had more impressive 30 game spans than him.

good list of names they all have improve but westbrook 18 -15ft pull J is the best medium range pull J in da game and WILLZ its everytime nice high arch on his release which allow a nice rainbow shot my next guy would be milsap HEs most improve player compare to rest of guys thats on the list

runner-up: Westbrook, DeRozan and Beasley

magichatnumber9
03-02-2011, 10:23 AM
How is not Derrick Rose? He went from being mentioned as the top 5 in his position category last season to now being considered a top 5 player in the league and MVP lock at this point. I'm not saying Love doesn't deserve Love. Deng improved his 3pt shot, but he is usually always a lock at his midrange game and his defense hasn't dipped or improved. Beasley has not improved, he is just away from Wade. Westbrook's season is very deceiving. He adjusted his game when Durant was injured earlier and He became a little super man. Now that Durant is back he still hasn't adjusted back pre KD injury and it's killing the chemistry on that team.

k.smith904
03-02-2011, 10:27 AM
either K Love or Luol Deng.

Mishmin
03-02-2011, 12:55 PM
No way Deng should be MIP because back 3-4 years ago, he had that breakout season.. and then he just gradually slipped until this year. He didn't really improve this season, he just had a second wind.

miller74
03-02-2011, 01:12 PM
Westbrook should not be on here, he was already a stud last year. Derozan has improved so many parts of his game, hes becoming a star IMO

Hawkeye15
03-02-2011, 01:17 PM
btw, this is like the 10th thread since midseason about MIP, and Love runs away with it everytime in the voting, posts. Kind of redundant at this point

DaBUU
03-02-2011, 01:19 PM
But is KLove more improved or just getting more playing time? I think he's always been this good, for the past 2 season at least, but no hes getting the burn to prove it. And as much as I love Love, he isnt a superstar yet, to me at least. A superstar is someone whos transcdent game crosses over to the mainstream. I know a player is a superstar when my wife or mom knows who they are, since neither pay attention to basketball.
