View Full Version : All-Star Game in L.A. again in 2013?

Kobe Bryant may not have played in his last All-Star Game in Los Angeles after all.

Not if AEG president and CEO Tim Leiweke has anything to say about it.

Leiweke and AEG just finished up throwing this year's NBA All-Star Game and are otherwise engaged with the task of bringing the NFL back to Los Angeles, but they're already thinking about bidding to host the NBA All-Star Weekend again as soon as 2013.

"I think we're going to go right back after it," Leiweke said Thursday night, after accepting the Executive of the Year award at the L.A. Sports Awards. "We'll work with the Lakers and the Clippers to see if either of them want to host it.

"Neither one of them have hosted an All-Star Game in a long time. If either of them want to do it, we'd certainly be partners with them and that would add a twist to the bid. But I think the league, the players, the team owners, everyone had such a great time, and for the city to have a $100 million economic impact like we did here, it would certainly be great to get them right back here."

Orlando is set to host the 2012 All-Star Game, but Leiweke said AEG would focus on a 2013 bid and then go from there.

That ridiculous. Some places haven't had allstar games in 20+ years.

Bring it to the Skydome.

I've noticed most of the recent ASG are in the southern cities so there is no snow or anything. Out of the last 10 years, only Denver is the only city that gets a good amount of snow.

might be a bigger travesty if all star weekend didn't typically suck.

Damn I would be pretty mad if I were in another city. They should give it to Oklahoma City or another small city that hasent hosted it.

Give it to Portland or Sacramento they've been in the league way longer then the other teams that haven't held it (Toronto, Memphis, OKC) They haven't held it what so ever and they've both been in the league over 35 years, ridiculous.

Im a Laker fan and even I think thats way too soon! They should at least wait 5 years before making a bid to host again. I'd like to see cities like Chicago, New York, Cleveland, and the new Brooklyn arena host it before L.A. does again

After watching the bs slam dunk competition and Kobe shooting 40 shots to make sure he wins the all star game mvp.....I have officially given up and caring about all star weekend. Used to be such a treat and fun to watch. All of these games/events have become so putrid.

just another case of how the league loves LA, loves the lakers, and the evidence such as rigged playoff games in favor of the lakers and possibly 2 all star games in 3 yrs in LA backs it up.

You've got to be kidding. Kia isn't at fault for him doing a dunk that anyone at that dunk contest could do. He's just a better in game dunker.

Anyway, give it to a city who hadn't had it or at least in a while.
I think itd be nice to go to seattle.

i feel like with all the moves that have been made it should be in new york or miami. i feel like both of those are cities that could host it and make it fun. you guys that are saying seattle dont understand the allstar game. its more about fun than anything and thats for the fans and the players so you need a city that can entertain everyone. when is the last time someone took a vaca to seattle lmao. that would be as much fun as minnesota or cleveland lol. so my vote goes to either ny or mia. not l.a. thats too soon.

el_primo_nano
02-27-2011, 04:01 PM
That ridiculous. Some places haven't had allstar games in 20+ years.

The one reason that All-Star games are liked by the players is for the nightlife and parties in various cities. There are many cities that cant fullfill those requirements, which is why it was such a success in L.A. Great city life, and bright lights. Not many U.S cities can provide that

well the players and coaches already have passports obviously because they need to travel to play the raptors... with that being said, not only would canada be able to generate enough hype to fill the stadium strictly with Canadians but the majority of Americans likely have a passport as well and could come watch... Cities like Detroit and many others are not a great distance from Toronto.

Dude you're trippin. I was merely joking about bringing it back to Vegas. I was there for the event that weekend and it was the worse weekend in Las Vegas's history as far as crime and trouble.

People were getting shot and there were fights on every corner. You couldn't even walk or drive around any streets by the strip it was so packed. It was like the million man march down Las Vegas Blvd.

No way they ever bring it back to Vegas. The NBA is banned from holding any All-Star events in that city now. The mayor even said so.
