View Full Version : Paul Pierce With The Bill Russell Technique?

Okay, this will be the first pointless thread I have ever created in the NBA forum. I'm popping my cherry on what feels to be worth it. Mods, please let this pointless thread linger for a little before you move it/get rid of it. I'm curious to hear from Celtics fans if this is something that Pierce always does and if there's a reason behind it.

In the following videos you'll see Paul Pierce making some very bizarre gestures as he watches his teammates attempt to defend down-low. His technique is similar to one where a player aims to will a shot in by leaning forward (actually, you'll find that Pierce does this a lot with crucial three-pointers). I'd venture to guess that it's just an instinctual thing with Mr. Wheelchair, I'm sure he's not consciously doing it, but I'd like to know he does this often because it's the first time I've seen it.

Event #1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaz-wZ7acks)
Event #2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycQTMfTkdMI)

It should be noted that this thread was made partially with tongue implanted firmly in cheek -- although I am in fact curious to hear if this is something that Pierce does often. While we're at it, could some Celtics fans inquire into Paul's "build-up on the corners of the mouth" situation? It's pretty appalling. Thanks, in advance.

i do that when i play too its like subconscious twitching/body english. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGjFnc1csoE he does it at the 1:44 mark ish in that video and if you watch his wrists he bends them awkwardly running down the court after a shot.

Pierce gets so into games that he subconsciously does things like that all the time. This isn't new if you've been watching PP play all his life like I have.

There is a special team forum if you didn't know.

There is a special team forum if you didn't know.

The only problem with that is it results in the number of people who view said thread being mightily reduced. The objective of this thread was to make people laugh, it was constructed in a facetious manner that would allow NBA fans and Celtics fans alike to laugh at Mr. Wheelchair's antics. Neither could be achieved if I followed you direction, but I do thank you for your contribution. I look forward to it in the future.

Because we don't follow the stringent rules of an online sports forum we're desecrating its value and structure? Come on, you're better than that.

I'm sorry but that looks like some tourettes syndrome twitching or something. It's all good because Paul is one of the nastiest players in the league right now.

That's funny. I've noticed that after he shoots a three. After he shoots the three it looks like he is about to take a **** on the court.

Its not a twitch, its more of a gesture that is willing the ball to do what he wants...
example: When you shoot a 3 pointer and the ball is fading to the left, most people will lean their body towards the right, as if to 'will the ball back to the basket. Most of the time these gestures are uncontrollable due to it being a momentary reaction. Paul Pierce seems to have some funny looking gestures, and he makes them when he is watching his teammates go for a rebound or a block. It reminds me of when I use a scissors to cut something, I always open and close my mouth as the scissors opens and closes. I don't know why but it just happens.

I Determine that in the 08 Finals PP tore his knee so bad that the Wheelchair broke a blood vessel hence the uncontrollable flailing of limbs and twitches.
