SpearsNBAYahoo: Wizards and new guard Mike Bibby are discussing a possible buyout, a source told Y! Sports.

Edit:
The Wizards will buy out Mike Bibby's contract on Monday, according to NBC's Dan Hellie.

Bibby is being pursued by the Heat, Celtics, and Blazers -- he could start for Miami, where he'd have the most value, but it's unlikely that he'll have dependable fantasy value outside of deep leagues.

every time a player is mentioned in a buyout the Heat fans are all over it. It's funny to me because that pretty much is proof that they are worried about the depth of their team. I heard it said best today on ESPN, the Heat have basically been LeBron and D-Wade outdoing everyone athletically- come playoff time things slow down and I'm interested to see how they adapt.

Not at all now, they lost Nate Rob and Marquse so they need a back-up PG hell a back-up guard in general!

I'm pretty sure their only other option is Avery Bradley. I think Doc likes him though, views him as more of a defensive point guard.

If the Heat (think they are with House there personally) aren't interested he could go to:
- Boston
- LA (Blake hasn't been producing due to not being aggressive)
- New York (would risk not playing with Dantoni's rotations like Jalen Rose did),
- Atlanta (knows the system, players, coach, and would play over Teague)

He would be a good fit on the Bulls. He could back up Rose, and they could go small and play Rose and Bibby at once. Bibby is still a pretty good shooter, and Rose can get some open shots for him. The Bulls GM said yesterday that they will add a player or two who get bought out. So I can see Bibby being a guy they target. Especially since they only have 12 guys on the roster now and are 2.9m under the salary cap.

Definitely can see Bibby going to the heat. Bibby was on once one of the NBA's best clutch shooters. I remember one game in particular on TNT, kings vs lakers back in like 2004 or 2005. Bibby hit a huge 3 and did this dance all the way down the court. Marv Albert yelled "this guy is off the charts and has emerged as one of the game's clutch shooters!" while all steve kerr could say was "my goodness....big shot bibby does it again."

So yeah.... it makes too much sense for miami since they're thinking championship and need a clutch PG with playoff experience.

We are grateful but that doesn't mean we can't post ways to improve our team, we can still offer Bibby the veteran minimum if he were to become available and it's not like getting him off waivers if he were to become available a long shot since Eddie House married his sister so he has connections to this team. Washington Wizards guard Mike Bibby(notes): The Wizards acquired Bibby in a trade that sent Kirk Hinrich(notes) to the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday, and sources close to the veteran point guard said he wasnít happy about going from a playoff team to a rebuilding situation. One league source said Bibby might try to pursue a buyout even though heís owed $6.4 million next season, in addition to the remainder of this seasonís $5.8 million salary. The potential hang-up: Unless Bibby surrenders significant money, the Wizards might want to keep him.

If Bibby becomes a free agent, the Miami Heat, Celtics, Portland Trail Blazers and New York Knicks could line up as suitors

If the Lakers can chain Blake to the end of the bench and guarantee Bibby some playing time he could end up in LA.

Mike Bibby and the Washington Wizards have agreed to terms on a buyout.

Bibby
In a stunning move, Bibby, whom the Wizards acquired from Atlanta last week in a trade for Kirk Hinrich, gave up his entire salary for next season. The 32-year-old point guard had one year and $6.2 million left on his deal.

"He sacrificed some money in order to win a championship," said David Falk, Bibby's agent. "Once you're past 10, 11 years in the league, you want to be in a situation where you can win. He's got some attractive options open to him."

Bibby is eager to sign with a title-contending team after clearing waivers, and sources say the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Miami Heat and Portland Trail Blazers are interested in him.

Bibby will clear waivers on Wednesday. While Falk said Bibby has not made a decision yet about which team he will join, one source close to the situation said he's headed to Miami.

The source also said Miami is the front-runner for Troy Murphy. The Heat will have to cut as many players as they sign, and the source said Carlos Arroyo and Jamaal Magloire are the likeliest candidates.

However, Falk, who doesn't represent Murphy, maintained that nothing has been agreed to.

"I've been in touch with six or seven of the top teams," he said. "Nothing can be done until he clears waivers."

For Washington, the deal is a sweetheart one that will knock next season's payroll down to roughly $38 million, which is $20 million below the current salary cap.

Chris Broussard covers the NBA for ESPN The Magazine.

where is the hour long special, I hear Lebron wants to do one regarding the bibby signing and the rest of the season.

its not going to happen. Your only allowed (two) hour long specials per year. Lebron had his and the next scheduled special is for some guy named Larry O'Brien. I heard hes taking his talents to south beach next. :p

if he wants to win a championship, why is he headed to the Heat?

Exactly. If he wants to win a championship, he should go to Chicago or New York or Boston. But if he wants to win multiple championships, then he'd be foolish not to go to Miami.

Lebron,Wade and Bosh are not enough to get it done huh? They need to rely on a guy like Mike Bibby. Sad!

Nothing wrong with improving your team. Every team tries to do the same thing.
