Wowsers. I gotta say this probably the best deadline I've ever seen. Trades coming out of no where. Guys you don't picture being involved, being traded.

Curious to see how Jeff Green will fit in the C's rotation. Surprised, Boston got rid of Perkins. Are they really going to rely on Shaq and JO being healthy for the rest of the season? Or are they relying on KG and Big Baby to hold down the fort down low?

Swashcuff
02-24-2011, 04:00 PM
There is a Thunder fan who's going to come in here and literally shyt his pants..... he's been praying for this for quite some time. Key for Perk them now is health.

Kendrick Perkins and Serge Ibaka in the starting line-up. The Thunder interior D just got real scary.

Interesting trade. I guess Boston knows they needed some youth on the wings and they got a great player in Jeff Green. I am not sure I like Boston as much though this year as I think with the major injuries to both O'Neal's that Boston will have a very difficult time with the Magic now and Miami certainly matches up much better with the Celtics after this trade.

Boston probably doesnt want to deal with Perkins contract demands and gets Jeff Green in the deal.

They probably don't think the thunder can beat them this year still so make the deal, try to take the championship this and next year and then hit the retirement home and start anew with Green and Rondo the year after that.

WTF is Boston doing this? I understand it from OKC's perspective.

Giving their starting SF some much needed help. Pierce would have fallen apart if they didn't make a move for a reserve swingman after all the injuries they've had. I am a bit surprised they gave up Perk however I guess they figured they'd have to pay too much to resign him at season's end.

It's an understandable move in all honesty. I would not have pull the trigger but I guess they are confident about the frontcourt depth going into the post season.

Agreed. They're still gonna be hella deep. But the O'Neals might have problems staying healthy throughout the playoffs. They're Center depth was their biggest advantage over us. Next to Rondo of course.

If they're going to be running with Davis or Green and KG at the 4 and 5 for stretches....I'll feel better about having Bosh and Haslem out there at the same time. Couldn't do that with Perk.

Jeff Green is a good player who the C's will keep, Perkins is a slightly better player who they wouldn't have. I like it for them, their window is not closed yet, they still have KG and Allen for at least 1 more year, probably 2 more after that so they expire with Pierce, makes sense to make sure they have a deep team that whole time.

And KG on Bosh, Green, on LBJ, Pierce on Wade, with Pierce and Rondo basically roaming is an awesome small ball lineup to counter the Heat.

So you don't think the fact that he's getting older and producing less would mean that they should have a solid back up in place for him?

Its no secret he's been asking for help.'

cetltics didnt want to spend on perkins next year because of injury problems and the fact he is going to get PAID next year since hes a true center.....also the cletics now got Ray Allen for free since they traded delonte and jeff green for him and they are both back in green.

Rondo and Green for the future of the C's

im kinda scratching my head right now.. but im thinking they are planning for a buyout of some sort .. troy murphy,rip.. idk whoever..but this makes way for dwight howard...next year when he becomes a free agent.. hopefully perk's knees hold up i like jeff green i think hes gonna flourish in green..

I'm watching as well but because they said it you'd doubt it?

IF its money and winning Perkins is looking for OKC is easily the best situation for him.

this is a good trade for Perkins.

and a good trade for Green. I don't know why Boston would do this deal. this only might mortgage their championship hopes for this season and the next.

Relying on Shaq and Jermaine to stay healthy is not the business at all.

Wow. Great move by the Thunder and I am really baffled as to why the Celtics would do this....
Kendrik Perkins was a key piece that coud help them in defeating the Lakers since he always punked Gasol and Bynum....why would they get rid of him?
do they not realize Kristic is going to be abused now?

Jeff Green is a talent, and Kristic is ok...but this is not what the celtics needed to put them over the top...they are REALLY going to regret this come playoff time....

Great deal for OKC and potentially good news for the rest of the East.

Logjam at PG with RW, Maynor and Nate though.

The only reason Nate is a PG is a direct result of his height.

At first i was excited (for the HEAT) that Boston traded away their starting center for two non physical bigs but i dont think it will hurt them much as they have done very well for themselves w/o perk this season and i guess they figured the same and instead choose to make a move to salvage their future, because in all honesty it was looking like besides rondo in 1-3 years they were gonna be done with a bunch of their players retiring or falling off. Now they have a future, sort of, with green and rondo and who better to mentor green than KG.

This doesnt make them better but doesnt make them much worse but it does give them a future. Just better hope shaq/kg stays healthy if not that interior defense is gone.

Small ball's fine with me, we're a heck of a defensive team as well. It's size that bothers the Heat.

Agreed. But it was perimeter scoring that could bother the Celtics. This trade helps that a lot.

It also makes them a better matchup for San Antonio.

i like it for both teams. i dont think perk has been the same since his injury and someone would offer him something stupid in the offseason that boston wouldnt want to match. okc gets the toughness inside they need. boston gets a young wing/pf who is a solid backup and could develop into a good replacement for pierce/kg and kristic isnt awful. chicago and miami dont have great offensive centers, and i dont think they are too worried about orlando anymore.

ElMarroAfamado
02-24-2011, 04:27 PM
I don't think this was a good deal for Boston, but I really get a kick out of the people saying they just cost themselves a championship. They are still the best team in the league. Jeff Green is a pretty damn good player.

the reason they were favorites was because they WERE a great defensive team...Jeff Green will bring offense...Kristic will too and not the type of defensive intimidation Perkins brought...they were not going to win a title with Perkins anyway but they just decreased their chances dramatically

As someone who watches just about every OKC game, I can tell you Boston, you're not getting ripped off here. Green is an incredible talent, and now he gets to be mentored by three HOF's. He's going to become a very sought after player coming this offseason.

Only kobe, pau, blake, and ron are signed threw then so no luck needed. ;)

The NBA Hard Cap is $58,044,000 for this season.

The Lakers have $69,708,109 in Salary for the 2012 season.

You also forgot about Odom, Fisher, and Walton. Bynum is also a $16M Team Option.

Great deal for OKC, they'll probably go with Ibaka at PF and Perkins at C. This is just what they needed, some big defensive bodies inside. Durant and Westbrook can provide the offense.

ryguy553
02-24-2011, 05:03 PM
Precisely. OKC steals the day for me. Ibaka and Perk inside to compliment Durant and Westbrook's scoring. I still think Harden should start at the 2 but I guess they will continue with Sefalosha.

I'm mixed on this deal. It's very sad to see Perkins go but he was also looking for a big deal when his contract expires soon. I know they are in a win now mentality, but Green will help for the future. They'll have to play small until Shaq gets back and that they traded Erden too, but I'm still confident in their defense even without Perkins.

after my initial shock and anger, this deal aint that bad for both sides.

the c's werent gonna resign perkins anyways so they might as well add someone with regards to the future. with all the other trades the c's made, they opened up 3 roster spots so they can sign buyout candidates (murphy, hamilton, etc). their lack of depth up front right now kinda scares me but i wouldnt put anything past ainge. the guy sure as heck isnt scared to take a risk!

as for OKC, great move to add some serious toughness and defending. could really give the lakers/spurs a run for their money in the playoffs now!

been saying forever that the thunder needed to trade green because he isnt close to what he will get on the open market. unbeliveable trade by the thunder to get a top 5 center for him in kendrick perkins. just an unbelievable trade.
these are the types of moves you have to make to go from being a really good young team to a perrenial title contender in the west against the lakers, mavs, and spurs.

The celtics just let the heat have a much bigger chance of winning the conference. Kendrick perkins is a legitimate difference maker. They just let their biggest advantage go. Their size and depth with size was their trademark, not sure why they would ever do this. They should have paid Perk his money.

02-24-2011, 07:57 PM
Well, according to Doc, the Celtics' starting five (including Perkins in the lineup) has never lost a playoff series. Clearly this trade was designed to ensure that his peculiar logic will remain true for all eternity.

Perkins doesn't get in or stay in shape, he has injury issues, and he's going to get a boatload of cash... he's a one year fix for OKC. Nate is garbage - glad he is gone.

The Celts must see SA and Miami as bigger threats then LAL and Orl - this move helps against smaller teams and will hurt against larger ones.

The Celts have to hope Shaq and West stay in one piece, and I promise one of them won't be at playoff time.

wow, maybe Boston figured out that they would lose to the Lakers in the Finals for sure, so their best chance is to send their center to Oklahoma, as it increases the odds that either Oklahoma, Dallas or San Antonio could upset the Lakers. Especially if the Lakers go in as a three-seed, and Boston could look at it like a 28 game series with the Lakers against Okla, Dallas, SA and Boston. Also Boston did have a glut of bigs.

In reality though it seems like Boston just gave up a huge chunk of what made it such a strong team--without Perkins they don't seem very deep at C/PF. I guess Shaq, Garnett, Davis is enough... with possibly J.O.

Yeah I guess it doesn't matter that much, although my initial reaction is that it was a horrible stupid trade for the Celtics. And the give up Robinson, who was a very valuable and effective sparkplug and cost the Lakers a game in the Finals.

Yeah, Boston was looking monstrous... now, not so much. They lost their size edge and it now seems even more likely that Miami wins the East.
