Once, Thomas brought Dolan with him on a comic-strip recruiting mission of Kobe Bryant: Together, they traveled to California armed with an electric offer: Come take the midlevel exception for a chance to play with Stephon Marbury. Somehow, Bryant decided to re-sign a max deal with the Los Angeles Lakers and keep winning championships. Yes, Thomas failed miserably as the Knicks president and coach, and now hes failing those poor kids at Florida International. The first time Kobe signed a max deal was after the 2004 Finals so I'm guessing that was then.

While this is a funny story, I don't believe it. That's Adrian Wojnarowski. He's the biggest Knicks homer/LeBron hater/Isiah hater in the entire world. Dude's a ****ing rat.

I agree. It should be left open b/c it's a funny accusation. But I would seriously question anything Wojnarowski calls a source.

Agreed. Woj is pathetic. I wish someone would do to him what Deron did to Ken Berger :laugh2:

I like how they made it seem like Marbury was the superior player of the two, by making Kobe take a pay-cut and using Marbury as a salespitch.

This is how I know you guys are a bunch of kids pretending you been watching NBA hoop for a long time. Knicks made Kobe an offer when he was a free agent... They were WAY over the cap so obviously they offered the MLE... Thomas probably knee he wouldn't sign but he tried anyway. A week later he had a press conference where he chose between the Lakers and Clippers... He chose purple and gold... If you clowns had been watching basketball as much as you claim you do you'd know this... Lol watching the decision doesn't make you a basketball guru...

scroll to the bottomBecause he signed a long term contract when that is what NBA superstars actually got paid. Magic and Bird got paid around the same in the 80s. After he signed the extension salaries exploded because of what Magic and Bird did in the 80s and what he did in the 90s to take the NBA to never seen before level of popularity, but he was locked into a long deal. Every player now is cashing in on what these three accomplished for the NBA.

I dont think he is a big Knicks homer but I could be wrong. I just dont get that vibe from any of his writing considering he is always attacking the franchise. I always thought he was a chicago guy to be honest.

Any smart Knick fan will know that this story, and this attempt, by them was not crazy because this is what owner James Dolan is known for.

People have to stop thinking Isiah was the man with the power in that organization (not to defend him). Since 2001 (the beginning of the Knicks downfall) it's been all James Dolan. He's done bonehead moves like this before.

James Dolan is a man who admits to not having much basketball knowledge while playing GM in the background. This is why Donnie Walsh must have the biggest headaches in the world. Because this man is his boss, and this man wants to control everyone and make decisions he SHOULDN'T make.

James Dolan is the most embarrassing figure in the NBA today.

It'd be weird seeing Kobe in a Knick uniform... good thing he opted for the slightly larger contract in LA.

I remember it being reported at the time. That's all the Knicks could offer, and I guess they figured they had to at least give it a shot.

Just based on the sexual assault, Isiah shouldn't be allowed to be part of an NBA front office. Isiah and Dolan are a couple of peas in a pod. Once Walsh leaves, everyone will see the Knicks true colors.

I thought I heard about this a few years ago. They were gonna try and sell him on the endorsements he'd make in hopes he would consider it.
Can't blame the Knicks brass. THey didn't have the money to get him otherwise.

Funny thing is, Steph actually averaged 21 and 8 that next season... Fisher and Kobe or Steph and Kobe... Mighta been exciting.

But Dolan is a self proclaimed "no nothing" about basketball that likes to move the puppet strings.. It's a ****** situation for Donnie, but if you look at the knicks roster exactly ONE year ago.... compared to today.... WOW
