View Full Version : Mavs and Lakers after Stephen Jackson

Both the Lakers and Mavericks have shown interest in acquiring the 10-year veteran, who currently leads Charlotte in scoring. Jackson is regarded as a quality defender and scorer, making him possibly the more enticing players on the market.

Jackson has consistently said he will play wherever he ends up and whatever happens happens. The volatile guard would likely want to be moved if sources are true and Wallace is moving on to Portland. The Mavs could dangle Caron Butler's expiring in the face of Charlotte's brass and see if they get a bite.

I hope Michael loves Ron's craziness enough to take him and the possible cash savings by Ron opting out

The Lakers would never actually sign Stephen Jackson w/ Ron Ron. He's crazier than Artest. They would have to send Ron packing.

Sounds reasonable. Spurs are already the best team right now, S-Jax would solidify them even more. And the Lakers need to make an improvement, even if it isn't monumental. S-Jax over Artest can be enough to get them back to the Finals.

EDIT: I don't know why I was thinking of the Spurs lol

I really don't see why the Bobcats would want to deal him to the Lakers. You wanna help Kobe get more rings MJ? Really? I don't think so.

Mavs are a definite possibility though. I made a trade that works, but I don't know if I like it from a Bobcats perspective. Butler's expiring + Beaubois and Haywood for Jackson and Diop. Haywood is a crap contract to take on, but they do get some cap relief and a pretty good young scorer.

Stephen Jackson with the Mavs vastly improves that team. I wouldn't be surprised to see Team Texas representing the Western Conference Ship if this happens for Dallas.

One thing is for certain, S-Jax is deff gonna be dealt before the deadline, prob most likely to the Mavs for Butler's contract.

There is only one center with a crap contract in the trade you mentioned, and it ain't Haywood.

Who, Diop? Only has one more year on it vs Haywood's 5. If they want to resign Chandler, it would help them out to have Diop. Chandler would take less money in the first year, but have the remaining years loaded. You know they want to keep him, because he's making a huge difference for them this year.

Either team picking up this guy would be a big boost. He is still a quality player in this league and could definitely help the Mavs or Lakers, especially come playoff time.

I think the Lakers could make that trade possible w/ ebanks, caracter, ratliff, a pick, and the exemption?

It would be Ron (has an opt out) or Luke (1 year shorter on the deal) and something to do with the rooks, theo, and 4 second round picks LA has

I'm guessing that the Lakers would probably offer Shannon/Blake + Artest + Ebanks/Caracter for SJAX, then a separate deal that gives the bobcats Sasha's 5 million trade exception for someone who has a bad contract worth 5 mil from the bobcats to clear their books in the off-season.

It's probably not likely that the Lakers get him though...

Butler's expiring for SJAX sounds more legit of a trade though.

So yeah, Mavs you can have him.

You don't send trade exceptions anywhere, that's not how it works. The Lakers could use that trade exception to acquire a player with a contract less than the amount of the trade exception, but that only allows them to add salary without worrying about the cap rules that trades usually have.
