basketballtalk: RT @Al_Iannazzone: BREAKING NEWS: Nets are close to acquiring Deron Williams from Utah, sources told The Record.

WojYahooNBA: Favors will go to Jazz with Harris, two first-round picks. Nets wlll send Troy Murphy to Golden State, and Warriors send Gadzuric to Nets.

WojYahooNBA: Utah has agreed to trade All-Star point guard Deron Williams to Nets in multi-player package, Yahoo! Sports has learned. Deal is done.

WojYahooNBA: The Nets will send $3 million to the Jazz also, a source said, as part of the Deron Williams trade.

WojYahooNBA: The Nets will also receive Dan Gadzuric and Brandan Wright from Golden State, with Troy Murphy on the way to Warriors, source said.

WojYahooNBA: The Golden State deal will be separate from the Nets-Jazz deal, so Williams comes to Nets in straight package.

STEIN_LINE_HQ: Under current NBA rules, D-Will isn't eligible to sign an extension w/Nets until July 9. So this can NOT be an extend-and-trade like Melo

WojYahooNBA: The Jazz will get the Nets 2011 first round pick and Golden State's 2012 pick that Nets own, league source says.

CowboysKB24
02-23-2011, 12:03 PM
Why would he want to go to NJ? No one is going to want to play there. Nets make me sick. They are hunting down every single super star. It doesn't matter who it is. One turns them down and then they move on. None of the 5 or 6 superstars this off-season even had the Nets on their top 3 choices. They draft Favors and aren't even giving him a chance, it shows how they feel about their draft pick.

Nets made a brilliant move here... as long as tomorrow we see across the ESPN ticker "Nets sign Deron Williams to extension..."

The thing that sucks about this is that Jerry Sloan resigned, which was thought to be fueled by that disagreement he had with Deron. I don't think we'll ever know the true story, but if Sloan was forced to step down because Utah chose Deron over him, then that would be a real shame.

A few of things:

Deron Williams will sign an extension. The Nets will soon be playing in one of the NBA's best markets (Brooklyn) and they're building a global brand. They're also on the verge of building the league's most expensive and luxurious arenas.

If this trade goes through, look for the Nets to go after Dwight Howard in the near future.

I'm curious to find out what picks the Nets gave up. If they gave up this year's pick and the Warriors' pick next year, then it's giving up too much, but whatever it's a star league. You need a star to attract more stars. Wow.

You can alway find a good scoring SF in the NBA, but to get an Elite PG is hard to come by. The 2 most important positions are the PG and Center spots.

If the Knicks knew D'Will was available they would have gotten him instead, because he's a much better fit.

Wow.

ZOMG!!!!!! Netzzzzzzz >>>>>>>>>>> Heatles. ZOMG!!!!!!! I turd my pants!!!!!!!

Wow Nets got lucky not getting Melo, instead getting one(if not the best) PGs in the game.

Dwill>Melo

Melo is better than DWill. Let's be real.

Point guard oriented teams don't win. Look at the history of the game, most championship teams' best player is not a PG. Look at the league right now... none of them have PG as their best player. In the last 30 years Magic Johnson was the last great PG to win a championship. Isiah Thomas was not the best player on his team.

You can argue the Celtics, but they are loaded from head to toe. Lakers, Magic, Heat don't even have PGs. Spurs and Dallas have decent PGs, but Parker was not the best player on the team when they won the rings.

I can't see there being a franchise tag. It would really just be hell. This isn't the NFL where there are 55 man rosters (or whatever size it is). They might do things to make it less favorable for players to leave, but the NBA should not force them to stay.

Nets made a brilliant move here... as long as tomorrow we see across the ESPN ticker "Nets sign Deron Williams to extension..."

If not, then this irrelevant. I'm also confused why the Jazz want Favors. Are they already giving up on the Millsap-Jefferson frontcourt? They getting worried about Memphis being the 8th seed?

Jazz are sitting at the 7th and 8th seed and they know Deron won't stay with them not being contenders.

This confirms my thoughts about the departure of Sloan. And the Jazz acted accordingly, the guy ran a hall of fame coach out of town and Utah did the prudent thing and got rid of him.

He pushed Sloan out and then was gonna bail on them...would you put yourself through what we all went through just this week after he screwed you?

Good move by Utah, they got rid of him before he could embarrass them further. Lost a lot of respect for Deron after the Sloan scandal.

Deron is a new player but Ive been watching Sloan for over 20 years, so I have to side with Sloan on this one and If I was the Jazz I would have done this move before I lost my coach, a HOF coach at that.

Sorry to burst your hater bubble but you dont know that for a fact.

You know what facts I know?

We are picking up Billups 14 million option that expires in 2012
Turiaf comes of the book at almost 5 mil in 2012

Thats 19 million in 2012. Im sorry my man but I dont care what the cap is we will have the money so stop the hate and just except it. We all know you dont want it to happen but trying to convince yourself doesnt make it a fact.

The fact is the Knicks will have almost 19 mil to play with in the summer of D12 and CP3, so no matter how much you hate the Knicks and dont wanna see it happen it probably will and its mathematically possible no matter what the cap or rules are.

And the last time I checked taking less to join a winner seems to be a option to the modern day player.

25 million for a year wont sound bad for a player being franchised tagged. Owners have all the leverage in the next CBA. If the PLayers Union dont agree they will lockout. If they lockout Players dont get paid.

Reread the post my friend. I am talking about PG oriented teams winning championships. Jameer Nelson is not an elite PG or even close to being the best player on the Magic.

You said:

Lakers, Magic, Heat don't even have PGs.

You aren't talking about the Magic not having a championship caliber PG, you're saying they don't have any. Which is strange, because Jameer Nelson is pretty good. Not elite, but pretty good.

What up Brooklyn!!!! Starting to look like not getting Melo was the best thing that could have happened to the Nets.

Not really.

The best player in the game is a SF. None of the elite PGs even compare to LBJ.
CP3 and D Will are way behind LBJ.

LBJ is not Melo

Deron looks like he belongs in Newark with his greased up taper haircut. Whatever the hell that thing is. I could def see him driving around in Newark with a few kids a white girl and a 90's honda with a exhaust system.

He fits right in.

And D-will is going to be up there in the top PG's of all time, he's in the top 2 PG's in a time where PG is the deepest position in the league.

And Melo isn't up there with LBJ, Kobe, Duncan etc. He's not that good. On the wings, Lebron, Wade, Kobe, Durant, Pierce are all better than him.

Durant = Melo IMO. Durant is not a great defender. Durant is the best scorer in the league and Melo is right behind him and the best rebounding small forward in the game. Both guys are unstoppable on the offensive end. Melo is better than Pierce, no comparison there. Melo is a better scorer than LBJ, Wade, Kobe... he is more complete. He can shoot the three, post up, mid range, he has it all. I am talking about scoring not overall.

D Williams may not even end up a top 10 PG of all time.
Magic, Stockton, Nash, Oscar, Gary Payton, Bob Cousy, CP3, Jason Kidd, Frazier...
