Deal scheduled to be finalized tomorrow but discussions as of tonight had Landry -- held out of SAC's game at MIA -- for Thornton/Andersen

Landry expires too.

I wouldn't be surprised if David West is leaving considering the Hornets are going into rebuild mode soon. There seems to be no reason why the Hornets haven't signed West other than the fact they dont see him in their longterm plans.

Landry is one of the toughest dudes in the NBA. Every team should want a Landry.

Yep Landry is basically West with worse rebounding.

David West is not going to be good once he "test" free agency

While CP3 will make Landry playing like the sixth man of the year like he was playing in Houston

Dumb trade for the Kings, not sure what they get out of this

Landry is expring and said on the radio this week that his preference is to resign in Houston during the offseason

Because if they didn't trade him he would walk and they would get absolutely nothing.

Better to get something than nothing. Thornton is a piece that could help this team long term.

Excellent deal for the hornets. Landry is a beast and can come off the bench and put up 12-18 points a night. He's also a beast in the paint despite being undersized.

I used to like Landry when he was with HOU.

But now he doesn't seem to care about rebounding or playing defense.

why trade him for 2 scrub players that will just rot on the bench and take up cap space?

And once again, you need to get a life, pal

This is all part of the plan for the Hornets.

Dell Demps has been active on the phones now, and everyone on this forum is correct- this move indirectly says we're not resigning David West in the offseason.

Instead, with Landry & West with expiring contracts, as well as Willie Green, the Hornets will try to use that money to sign someone in order to keep Chris Paul around the Big Easy. Who could those players be? Tough to say, because not many guys are out there right now.

I could see the Hornets making a push at someone like Jeff Green. I mean like I said, there's not many guys available next offseason.

Honestly, I don't know why Demps doesn't go ahead and try to trade David West right now. Sure, they won't get enough for him, and they probably need him for a playoff run.

But either way, trading Marcus Thornton for Carl Landry is part of the plan. Will it work? We shall see.

I like this as a Kings fan.
Landry was walking at the end of the season, and we got a piece.
Is it great? no, but Thorton is an athletic guard that can shoot, and spread the floor for Reke.

Kings still have Dalembert, if anyone wants em, you still got some time.

Thornton was pretty good as a rookie, and Landry was having a pretty bad year so his value is as low as it's ever been, especially since he is an unrestricted free agent next year, and it's pretty clear the Kings weren't #1 on his list of teams he wanted to sign with.

Because one of those players happens to be a decent prospect and combined dont hinder their CAP. Its always better to net something than lose someone for nothing.

LOL If I have no life then that means I have more time to spend on basketball, besides I dont know if you noticed but I wasnt the only to call you out on your foolish assessment.

They take up just over $3 Mill. and Thorton ain't gonna rot on the bench. Not sure about Anderson but if we trade Dalembert he won't be rotting on the bench either. For the rest of the season at least.

Thornton is going to get a ton of minutes. Reke is hurt. It's either him or Jermaine Taylor getting the nod. Hmmm I wonder who it's gonna be? The Kings are going to get a real good look at Thornton the rest of the year.

Carl Landry was such a beast in Houston. This is a great move by the Hornets. Hes a high end bench player who can just flat out score. Not to mention bring energy and crash the boards. Undersized, but w.e.

He's a good offensive rebounder, but he's an awful defensive rebounder for a 4. His rookie year he was pretty good, especially on the offensive end, but he's gotten worse every year. His defensive rebounding rate is 10%. To put that in perspective, Tyreke Evans has a defensive rebounding rate of 12.5%. DeMarcus Cousins and Sam Dalembert lead the Kings with 24% and 25% respectively. Even Beno Udrih has a defensive rebounding rate of 9.7%. Landry rebounds on the defensive end like a guard.

Its definitely not always better to net something than lose something

And its not like Sacramento doesn't already have an abundance of backup SGs

So you spend all your time on basketball and are still clueless, congrats

Who?

Garcia is hurt and plays the 3 as much or more than the 2. They would dump him so fast if a team would take him.
Donte Greene is a 3.
Omri Casspi is a 3.
Luther Head is a 1-2, but he's not good and has no future with the team. Thornton is better.
Jermaine Taylor is a 2, again not that good, just a freak athlete. Thornton is better.

Thornton is better than any 2 not counting Tyreke the Kings have.

I seen him just recently put up a 20+pt game.

The kid has potential to make Boogie & Reke better, and we get Money (instead of Anderson).

Once again, I'm in favor of this.

Good deal for both. Hornets need another low post scorer, even if Landry is short. And we werent using Landry at all, and desperately need a shooter. And thornton proved he can score a bunch last year.

Thornton is a nice scoring guard and can help out much more in sac town than landry was.

N.o.gets a nice player to help out their bench bigs.
With that being said..hopefully see ya soon landry :)

Hornets could be on to something for the future. If I'm not mistaken all they have is CP3, Okafor, Ariza and Jack under contract pass this year.

UGH compelling argument as always

Yes its better to net an asset than watch one dissipate

Having an abundance is better than missing out on another, you can still flip the others besides you have to be on crack if you think they have the worth of whathisface

If Im clueless, your beyond hopeless.

DerekRE_3

Not only is Rhino's argument flawed, the basis for it is false. The kings don't have a glut at the 2 spot. They have a glut of big men: Landry, Thompson, Cousins, Dalembert, Whiteside, and Darnell Jackson. They also have somewhat of a glut at the 3 with Garcia, Casspi and Donte Greene, with none of them being starting quality.

GrkGawdofWalkz

You'd think they were keeping Landry and moving Thompson. I guess not. Heh. Good value for the Hornets. Thornton is alright.

Kings and Hornets, I'm told, have finalized trade sending Carl Landry to New Orleans for Marcus Thornton and cash. Will be announced soon
