Rose has foes taking notice of his Bulls
All-Star weekend has elite taking stock of Bulls' resurgence
February 19, 2011|By Chris Foster, Tribune newspapers
LOS ANGELES The elite of the East seemed clear post-All-Star practice Saturday. Numbers don't lie.

Hanging by the scorer's table together was the Heat trio, LeBron James, DeWayne Wade and Chris Bosh. Scattered around the court was the Celtics contingent, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.

And sitting at the end of the Eastern Conference bench was Derrick Rose, trying not to be a Bull in a china shop when the power structure in the Eastern Conference was brought up. He was quietly comfortable with the moth-to-light attention the Celtics and Heat attract.

"We're fine with that," Rose said. "We keep running under the radar."

But, he said, being smack-dab in the middle of the Eastern Conference race while others draw the attention, "motivates us."

The Bulls lurk just behind the Celtics and Heat, sitting two games back and public opinion may shift.

"They have proven they are a lot better than last year," Celtics' guard Ray Allen said. "Somebody is going to have to play them and contend with them."

The Heat will, immediately, twice in the next two weeks.

Joakim Noah is expected to return from his thumb injury after the break, which Rose said will allow the Bulls to apply more pressure.

"Jo will push the break and handle the ball," Rose said. "Another thing he brings is passing. When teams double team, Jo does great job beating that and can finish at the rim."

Celtics coach Doc Rivers certainly is impressed with the Bulls, and Rose.

"They have an MVP," Rivers said. "Derrick Rose, in my opinion, is the MVP of the league. When you have one on your team, especially with all the other guys they have, you're right in there. Miami, Orlando, Chicago, we're all in each other's way."

I'm officially making a new thread anytime any one somewhat relevant tells us who he thinks the MVP is going to be. I think PSD will appreciate my efforts.

LMAO they spelled Dwyane Wade's name wrong in the article. DeWayne Wade. C'mon, these Chicago writers must be drinking the Derrick Rose cool-aid while writing.

Sorry guys, we've had enough of Rose threads. Use the official MVP thread.
