View Full Version : Your Dream 8-Man Rotation

If you were a GM in the NBA right now and could make up your dream 8-Man rotation, keeping in mind chemistry as much as talent, who would you want on your squad?

Didn't put much thought into this, and tried to keep it semi-realistic. Would be a very fun TEAM to watch. The starting unit all posses strong passing skills and none of them are defensive liabilities, everyone can shoot too.

PG- Rose (top PG in the league can do it all)
SG- Wade (can do a little bit of everything)
SF- LeBron (best player in the league)
PF- Griffin (up and coming stud who can sit back and rebound and play defense with this team)
C- Howard (best big man all around)

Durant (top 3 scorer in the league who is long and can play defense)
Garnett (perfect to show Griffin how to play D while just getting what you can on the offensive end with other scorers around)
Westbrook (young PG/SG who can back up Rose and Wade while also allowing LBJ to run the point when he wants)

CP3 (Pretty easy choice here for me. He is the best PG in the NBA quite easily IMO. He is a great passer and ignitor, which is what I need on a super team like this w/ so much talent. He can get people involved, and is a capable shooter when he's off the ball. Good defender too.)
Manu (W/ his experience as a 6th man, I know he can take a somewhat reduced role, which is what all of these guys would have to do. He would be the third scoring option on this team, behind my SF and C. Obviously not the best SG in the NBA, but I think he fits the best.)
Durant (Lebron is better, but I want CP3 as my primary ballhandler because no one does it better than him. Therefore Durant would be a better fit. He is arguably the best pure scorer in the NBA, and playing w/ my frontcourt should help his defense.)
KG (Maybe a homer pick, but his defense is still elite and i don't really need 25 points from my PF here. KG still brings the intangibles to a team. He is the type of player that elevates the defensive play of those around him. Offensively, he would be the 4th/5th option when he's on the floor most of the time, so he can fit nicely into his role and focus on defense.)
Dwight (Obvious choice here. I really did consider Bynum because I like his post game, but I couldn't do it. While Bynum may be a better post scorer, Dwight is the better defender and rebounder. And Dwight's post game has improved to the point where I think he can be a great second option behind KD.)

Monte Ellis (I dont think he is efficient enough to be a starter , but he could be a GREAT bench scorer. Also, I think playing w/ KG and Dwight could help him buy into team defense, much like Ray Allen and Pierce did when the BOS Big 3 formed.)
T-Mac (I know he's old, but he has the potential to serve as the point forward while CP3 is on the bench. On this team, he would probably only have 20-25 minutes at most on the court, and I think he is proving in DET that he could excell in a limited role. On this team, he'd probably only get 17-18 minutes a night.)
Nene (He is a great bench piece because I believe he could play w/ either of my bigs. He could sub in for Dwight or for KG. This would be a very reduced role for him, as I'd probably have him at just over 20 minutes per game. But he can score and be a very good bench player on this team.)

CP3 - 37 minutes
Manu - 32 minutes
Durant - 37 minutes
KG - 28 minutes
Dwight - 37 minutes
Ellis - 30 minutes
TMac - 17 minutes
Nene - 22 minutes

That comes out to 240 minutes per game total. This may not be the 8 best players in the NBA, but I think it is a team where all the pieces fit together perfectly.

I find that both players are chemistry killers

I don't know if I'd say that. I chose neither for one reason - CP3. I think he is by far the best ball handler in the NBA in terms of running offense. I want him to do that for my team. If I put Lebron on the team, then that takes away from CP3's ability to do that because Lebron isn't nor has he ever been a off ball player. So I went w/ Durant instead. And by taking Durant, I chose to pass on Kobe because I'm not sure that those 2 would be the best wing partners, especially if they have to share the ball w/ CP3 as well. Durant is the better scorer, so I went w/ him and took Manu at SG.

Well thats kind of what I meant... you have to pick certain players to compliment them... and I would rather build a team that complements each other rather than one player.

Well thats kind of what I meant... you have to pick certain players to compliment them... and I would rather build a team that complements each other rather than one player.

Well that's the case w/ any player. You have to pick guys that compliment each other well. For example, my front court would be KG and Dwight. Is KG the best PF? No. But I think he compliments Dwight the best. Dwight is a guy that dominates the paint. KG can hang out in mid range on offense and knock down jumpers.

If I had Lebron, this would be my team:

Steph Curry
Ray Allen//Kevin Martin/Manu Ginobli (any would be fine because all of them can excell off the ball)
LBJ
KG
Dwight

PG: Deron Williams
SG: Manu Ginobili
SF: Grant Hill
PF: Dirk Nowitzki
C: Dwight Howard

Bench: Lamar Odom, Joakim Noah, and Kirk Hinrich

I went with the less obvious lineup.

Deron is the facilitator of the team. He'll get the ball to the open man and will allow us to run a fast pace offense. With Deron as the point guard, we have Dirk as the PF. This allows screen and rolls where we will be able to use Dirk's outside shooting to our advantage. Manu can create his own shot and will help us with scoring. Hill helps us space the floor on fast breaks. Dwight is a great defender to place next to Dirk. Dirk's outside game compliments Dwight's inside game. Off the bench, we have Lamar Odom who is versatile and can play any of the five positions. Noah is the defender off the bench to backup Dwight when he gets into foul trouble. Hinrich is the solid, passing point guard off the bench. He won't ask to shoot the ball, so he can dish the ball out to Manu/Dirk/Dwight

very interesting choice in grant hill, good idea actually. he is a great chemistry/team player kind of guy, an elite defender, has a small contract, and doesnt demand many shots at all. i like it
