I'm switching my pick to Portland too. In fact, I'm throwing down some $ on them (-5.5). They'll win at home, especially since Emeka is still out.

The Hawks vs Knicks game looks attractive to me. The Hawks have a better road record than the Knicks have a home record, and they've beat the Knicks twice this season already.

Revenge will be on the mind of the Knicks...but the spread and moneyline is so favorable

ummm Andrea Bargnani is great. Imagine him as a 2nd option to a legit number 1 and playing as a POWER FORWARD behind a real Center.

I wouldn't call him great. He's a hell of a scorer, but his rebounding is horrendous for a guy at his position.

John Walls Era
02-16-2011, 10:35 PM
andrea and howard would be good...

yeah thats good but also imagine a decent C (say a guy who can block shots and get rebounds). And then a real PG like Chris Paul; Bargnani would score even easier.

John Walls Era
02-16-2011, 10:36 PM
I wouldn't call him great. He's a hell of a scorer, but his rebounding is horrendous for a guy at his position.

But at PF with a defensive C... that would be ideal.

Love me some Roddy, but it'll be interesting to see how they allocate his PT when Barea is there as well. Tough to imagine him getting more than 20 mpg on the regular.

True, but he is their future PG. It gives them depth at the guard position, and the Mavs title hopes grow that much stronger. Roddy also poops in limited minutes, so I don't think it really matters much.

That Cavs game tonight was very exciting for me, as a Cavs fan. We haven't had a lot of games where we have led for the majority of the game and then are able to win down the stretch. I am glad we are going into the All Star break with a little bit of momentum and a boost in confidence. Hopefully during these next 6 days off we can get Mo Williams and Antawn Jamison healthy. Williams seemed to injured himself 2-3 min into the game today, and Jamison injured his ankle on the rebound as time expired.

True, but he is their future PG. It gives them depth at the guard position, and the Mavs title hopes grow that much stronger. Roddy also poops in limited minutes, so I don't think it really matters much.

He's already better than Barea, when 100% healthy. And he will only get better.

Never said he wasn't. I just think Barea will continue to get minutes because of how well he fits and plays with Dallas. He runs the point nicely when JKidd is out, he has a strong frame and quickness for what he lacks in size, and he can shoot. They're not just going to throw Roddy in the fray and tell him to play, and mess up the chemistry and team play when Barea was running the point. Barea will continue to see a good chunk of the minutes for the time being, but I definitely see Roddy taking over his spot soon enough.

During the Cavs telecast they showed the top 6 teams in the NBA and their record vs each other. Miami was bringing up the rear at 1-6, LAL was 2-5 or 2-6. The Celtics, Mavs, Spurs, and Magic each had better record against those top 6 teams than Miami and LAL -- in that order.

Injuries are the biggest problem. Varejao is our best player and has been out since Jan 1st for the rest of the season. Mo Williams has missed a ton of games and got injured again tonight. He has played in less than 1/3 of our games, and he is our second best player. Most teams would struggle with their top 2 players missing 1/2 or more of their games...Not to mention starters Daniel Gibson and Anthony Parker both missing roughly 10 games.

I know we aren't a contender anymore, but I think we could be in the hunt for the East's 8 seed if everyone had stayed healthy. We started the season 7-9.

Without revealing too much since you still seem interested in watching, Bynum wasn't very impressive....Which is appalling considering the Cavs starting C is 6'9 -- at the most.

LAL killed us on the offensive glass, and both teams had wayyyyy too many TO's.

Ramon Sessions dominated, Fisher could not contain him whatsoever and their bigs couldn't keep him out of the paint.

I don't think he's going to be that good. He can be an 8+ year starter, I think, but I don't see him ever becoming an All-Star.

I don't think you can risk breaking the current Mavs team up to get Melo when they are playing this well. It would be nice to add another potential franchise player with Dirk on the second half of his career and Kidd's career winding down. But if they truly believe they can win it all with this current squad they can't afford to make a huge trade for Melo during this season.

That was the first game of the season though, a lot has happened since then. Also doesn't help that this makes three straight losses for LA, and follows a 20pt blowout loss to another non-playoff team in the East.

Between the improvement of OKC, San Antonio and especially Dallas and the absurd inconsistency of LA, it's going to make for a VERY tough road to the finals this year. That said, I don't see anyone beating Boston this year; hell they could lose Perkins for game 7 like they did last year and still have the depth at Center to take it down.

Better be blown out by a good team than lose to the worst team whom just made NBA history by losing 26 games in a row. Only 2 teams has fallen to them since that horrendous stint , LA clippers (Not much of a surprise) and the defending champions LA Lakers (Irony all over).

Yes they need to move something, that urgency is all over Jacksons face while he oft to just sit on his chair for some time, while his team went to out right after the game. Have you seen him shout at any of his past players like that of he did with his laker players today?

Earlier in the season even when LAL is struggling I have no doubt they can easily come through come playoff, but by the look on Jackson there is definitely doubt.

Something's gonna be done drastically, time for the wake-up call.

Good point, LAL has better winning record when Kobe shoots only 17 below shots a game than when he shoots above 17. But it can also be attributed to his team mates tendency to depend on him too much. Yet today Gasol has 30 pts, so other factors should have also played.

I agree, its now clearer that Boston is the team to beat and I don't think any other team in the west other than the LAL can beat them in 7 games (Doubtful now). If they manage to escape the east they could go the rest of the way.

Boston is terrific, but they also lost to the Nets last year who were worse then the Cavs this year. Boston finished 27-27 in a weak eastern conference, Lakers play in the tougher west. Championship caliber teams will always stick around and be hard to beat come playoff time. OKC is good, but IMO not impressive enough to beat the Lakers. Dallas and San Antonio are solid, but anything can happen in the playoffs. Lakers finished the season last year 4-7, and won the championship last year, so obviously they do have an on and off switch when playing. People don't remember that the Lakers got rocked last season by winning teams as well, all season long. Yet, they went into the playoffs with a lot of doubters and still pulled it off.

I don't see how people can count them out, this is normal for teams that have been to multiple finals in a row. Bulls in the early and late 90's went through the same thing.

'90-91----61-21
'91-92------67-15
'92-93------57-25

'95-96----- 72-10
'96-97-----69-13
'97-98-----62-20

That third year they had a significantly worse record than either their first or 2nd championship.

i think boston/san antonio would be a very interesting series.

as for the lakers, i think something needs to be done but by no means should they break up the core or anything. as has been said the celtics looked just as mortal this time last year, yet here we are anointing them the favorites to win this season.

i really don't like to buy into the "turn it on in the playoffs" idea. it dimishes regular season excellence and usually backfires. no hca in a deeper west could backfire.

i think a guy like kirk hinrich could really help them. and another shooter.
