This thread was created to rank the top 8 teams in the West, but not based upon their regular season records. Rank the teams based on their chances of representing the Western Conference in the NBA finals.

1) Lakers
2) Spurs
3) Mavs
4) Thunder
5) Nuggets
6) Hornets
7) Jazz
8) Blazers

Mine is pretty standard. It is actually very similar to these team's actual records right now (with the exception of the Lakers being no. 1), but I did not intend it to be that way. I am sure many people will disagree with my rankings, because to be honest, I had a pretty tough time making these rankings myself, especially from 3 on down.

I'd switch the top 2 but other than that it looks good.

EDIT: Switched POR for MEM, they've been playing great as of late.

IMO, I think the Lakers and Spurs are in a class of their own out west. Respect to the Mavericks, but they have to show everyone that they can win in the playoffs, and I don't understand how other people including Mav fans can dispute this. I'm not trying to disrespect Mav fans at all, I'm just going off what I'd say 90% of this forum thinks. Can the Mavs beat the Lakers or Spurs yeah, why not. Would I take them over the Lakers or Spurs in a 7 game series, probably not.

One thing about the Mavs that I do like this season is the addition of Tyson Chandler this year.

For the first time ever, they have a very strong defensive presence in the paint.

Will that help them win those close, down to the wire playoff games?... Maybe.

Peja could end up helping them a lot too, if he can just stay healthy.

But still, having said all that.... They are still behind the Spurs and Lakers as of now.

I agree Chandler is a beast. Peja I'm not too worried about, his defense in not very good, but Marion is solid. I dunno, we always say this about the Mavs every year, and they lose in the first and 2nd rounds. More than anything, they just gotta man up in the playoffs and play nasty. If they're the aggressor they can beat anyone.

They're playing a fairly weak schedule over their past 10 games or so, which is good. But I cannot put money down on this team unless they win when it matters. On paper they are the most talented team in the league.
