View Full Version : NBA CBA: Could Profit Sharing Help?

The NFL has already done this. I'm not exaclty sure as to the numbers, but essentially the owners share profits. So if a team like say (hypothetical) LA or NY makes 300 million each, and teams like say NO, Minny and Memphis lose about 10 millions each, then the money is pooled together and each owner still makes a profit. On the exact details of how this works I am not sure, but it seems like the NBA should be looking into this.

It is hard for small market teams to do well in a lot of cases, and also teams in cities that are struggling financially (Detroit, NO), and teams like NY and LA could put out losing teams and still turn a huge profit.

Now I beleive the players are going to have to come down a bit in terms of what they are making, but it seems like the owners need to do a little work as well, and profit sharing would make things easier for small market teams and also make it more competative in terms of which teams can shell out money.

In a league where the MLE (a contract often awarded to bench/role players) is more than what Jordan earned per season for most of his career, it seems like the players should come down a bit, but if the owners expect all players to take a hit and share/absorb the losses, it seems only fair that the owners should be able to find a way to help each other out so that the league becomes healthier economically.

Revenue Sharing. Im not sure but they might have some form of this. I think they get a % of NBA apparel and TV money but im not sure if the teams share directly. If they dont then its a good idea.

Oh wait...isnt that what the luxury tax for? Im not really sure. I do know the Knicks have been paying into that for years.

^Socialist. :)

It's a damn good question. How else can a market as small as Green Bay continue to produce championship contending teams?

I think it's worth a debate, but I doubt it happens in the NBA. The big guns won't allow it to happen, IMO.

Jerry Buss would start his own basketball league with the Lakers as the premier franchise before they agree to share profits with the Grizzlies.

But isnt that what they do in the NFL and MLB? **** if it can keep a team like the pittsburgh pirates afloat...

So quick to tell other people to share their money...

Would you share your money with your coworkers? Give teams with horrible owners and front offices your money.... I think not!
If you think these organizations didn't speed money before, ****! Yes I think a couple of owners would love this Idea :pity:
