Who would you want taking the last shot with the game on the line?

Another NBA.com poll :D

Who would you want taking the last shot with the game on the line?

Ray Allen :)
Reggie Miller

I personally prefer Reggie Miller, has done many times, and has taken full control of the games in the past.

Who would you want?

This is really a toss-up. I'd love to see stats relating to their clutch shooting/game winners.

Their numbers are so identical both regular season and in the post-season.

I do know that Ray Allen is 23/70...32.9% when trailing by one or two points, or tied, in the final 24 seconds of regular-season and playoff games since 1996-97...AKA game winning shot attempts. Per the Kobe article (http://espn.go.com/blog/TrueHoop/post/_/id/24200/the-truth-about-kobe-bryant-in-crunch-time).

No idea what Reggie is at.

Not deciding right now. I've seen Reggie hit big shot after big shot, and probably carry his team a bit more...but I've seen it from Ray too. I think Ray is a slightly more cold blooded shooter, and Reggie is a slightly more cold blooded scorer...if that makes any sense.

EDIT: Didn't read the question properly

Alltime - Reggie Miller
Now - Carmelo Anthony

Ray Allen is good, but not that good

Why is it so hard for people to just answer what a thread asks? This is a really good question...

I'm surprised it's 56% to 44% favoring Reggie on NBA.com. I figured more people would be caught in the moment...

Sorry, forget to put the poll.

And no where says Nash, Kobe, Melo, Scalabrine, Mbenga or whoever. Just ask something, (who you prefer, Allen or Miller) is a shame, that some can not answer.

I think that because, if I think of Ray I think of him as a good shooter, I think of that with Reggie but I think he can create his own shot more than Ray Allen.

I'd vote Reggie. IMO he was slightly better at getting his own shot than Allen. Especially now, Ray loves to move without the ball and come off screens. I'd rather have the guy taking the last shot be able to just pull up off the dribble and nail it.

Congrats to Ray Allen though, he's passing Miller and he's played in a lot less games.

If you could find Ray Allen's stats in those situations elsewhere, let me know. Sorry for posting an article that was about Kobe, even though it had the most pertinent stats to answer this question.

You think? For the sake of this discussion Allen and Miller are near equals in 3 point %.

Reggies advanced stats aren't dominant, but neither are Allens. They both hover around the 18/19 mark in career PER, but Miller edges Allen in WS and WS/48 for their careers. Not counting the '99 lock-out season, Miller posted above 10 WS for eleven years in a row.

Maybe Miller gets slightly over-rated because of the '98 ECF? Nobody had seen a team challenge Jordans Bulls like that for years.

People just love to make any thread funny. If the choice is between Reggie and Allen I'd take reggie , but I didn't chose him by the way of record or stats, just somehow felt he is better in clutch not to take away anything from allen of course, but I have also seen allen missed 2 TF's in a very close game I just can't remember who are they against, Oh, and I hated reggie for making that famous 3pt clutch shot against MJ. :)

Okay Bill Simmons.

Isn't he #1 all-time in TS%? Plus he scored 8 points in 9 seconds to rip a brief portion of my childhood to shreds by making those back to back threes. They were when the line was what... 15 feet from the basket?

Anyway, what I want to know is that last shot coming off a screen or does he have to create for himself?

 Sometimes I find it ridiculously annoying and some times I find it funny. You got people saying like Derek Fisher, Monta Ellis, Michael Jordan. Is it that hard to focus on two players at a time?

ray allen is one of my favorite players right now but i gotta say reggie miller. he is just the better player. yes ray allen has a ring but he did that with 2 other allstars and on a team where he is not the go-to player. and when he was still the top honcho in seattle he never really led them deep into the playoffs unlike reggie who led the pacers to the nba finals and actaully had alot of great playoff appearances but a player named michael jordan stood in his way. so my answer not only to this thread but also to who is the better player is reggie miller.

Of the two: Reggie Miller. He'd probably also kick the defender in the face and draw the foul call to get to the line.

Chauncey Billups

Clutch guys have clutch moments not percieved clutch names. How anyone can have James on any of their lists is just plain........guy hit one game winner in his career and hes clutch? Cmon now.

Horry and Billups are 2 of the biggest clutch shooters, to ever play the game, not named Jordan. If I had to pick 1 guy to shoot my last shot im going with ....
