View Full Version : Would the General NBA Fan be up to see Kobe Bryant in the 3pt contest in LA?

Kobe was supposed to participate in the 3pt contest 3 yrs ago in the 2008 all-star game in New Orleans. That was the yr when he first had that lacerated pinky injury, had to step down from the competition, and made a cameo appearance in the all-star game, playing only the first 2 minutes and grabbing a rebound.

Now, with the all-star game being in LA, do you think there will be more hype in the 3pt contest if Kobe joined the fray? MJ competed in 1990, but he was far from considered as a great 3-pt shooter.

I'm sure the league is tired of seeing the same tired ole 3pt shooters in the contest like a Ray Allen or Dirk, or seeing guys having careers yr from 3pt% for the season, be put into the contest, and barely cracking a double digit score (underachieving in the contest).

Would the general NBA fan be up to see this, and would you guys want to see Kobe in the 3pt shootout contest, especially the fact that it's in LA.

Honestly, no. Leave the 3 point contest to the great 3 point shooters.

Yeah he'd be a great addition since he is so competitive.

I don't want Kobe in it either, he needs the extra day of rest. That guy never stops playing basketball.

I said yes. I'd rather see some big names in there than not. He isn't a great three point shooter, but he definitely would be competitive, and he'd definitely make it more interesting.

who end up disappointing in the contest scoring like a 11 or 12, and that too because of 2 or 3 money balls that they made? Had they not made those money balls, their score would be like at 8 or 9.

When Kobe gets hot he's the best player on the planet. I'd love to see him get hot from the 3 point line.

I sure as hell aint tired of seeing Dirk or Ray Allen however.

Let Kobe shoot.

Rashard was shooting 42% before the break that season and that was in the tie breaker finals.

I much rather see Kobe in the contest.

Absolutely. How many open looks from three does Kobe actually ever get? I actually think his % is great considering how many of his are contested.

To all those that say a guy with a low % shouldn't be in look at this

:speechless:

I mean it isn't the contest by any means and they are not time limits or grabbing and shooting but Rondo stroked it.

The all time record holder for 3s in a game (tied)? Yep!!! I'd like to see him in there. He may not be that same player but hell he's KOBE BRYANT!!!!

Kobe is the man. he should do it. and next year maybe the skills competition haha im kidding. but 3 point champion would look extra good on his resume. another achievement to add to his career.

I just feel like the guys that have some of the higher 3 point shooting percentages during the season, should be able to test themselves against others with similar skills. If you start bringing the superstars in, then it just becomes almost another all-star game imo.

wouldn't be surprised, actually we had a great performance long time ago.

Without reading any of the other posts and just seeing your headline: Would I be up to see it? FU_K yeah. Does he deserve to participate in it? HELL no - but whatever, it's the ASG - it'd be nice if they mixed it up like that a bit.

That's fair.

But think of this wouldn't it bring some more meaning and drama to the 3 point shootout to see a David vs Goliath type match up. Sports fans love not just superstars but the love under dogs. If there is one time in Kobe's career where he'll be and under dog is in the 3pt Shootout.

Back against the wall he may put on a show. They can still have 3 of the better non star shooters like Shawne Williams, Anthony Morrow, Arron Afflao while also having Ray Allen, Kobe Bryant and Paul Pierce.

Lakers vs Celts in the 3pt in LA. c'mon thats money

Absolutely not. Would you want an ok dunker in the dunk contest just because he has a big name, and "most of his dunks are contested so who knows what he might pull off in a competition?" If there was a killer instinct competition I'd want Kobe in that, or if there was a 13-foot turn-around fade-away with-a-hand-all-up-in-your-grill contest, I'd want him in that but he's not a pure shooter. I know he's a good shooter and a great clutch shooter...just not pure.
I know he's only played a few games but I want to see Mike Miller in there. I have a broner for his jump shot.

If Kobe earned his way in by having a great 3 point shooting percentage, then I have no problems with that. But bringing a guy in just because of his accolades and status in the league, isn't fair to the guys that have worked on their shot and made it into the contest. Believe it or not, I think some guys look forward to the 3 point contest to test their skills against other top shooters.

I cringe every time Bryant pulls up for three. He's been terrible from behind the arc this season, 30%.

I wouldn't want to see Bryant in the three-point contest. Since breaking his finger/s a couple of years ago, his long ball has suffered the most. He hit at 35% in 2008, the last season before the index finger issues on his shooting hand.

I wish Bryant would stop shooting 3's all together. Bryant has shot 34% for his career, on over 4,000 attempts. Jordan shot under 2,000 3's for his career on 32.5%. One of two or three reasons as to why Jordans career FG% is superior. Easy buckets.

Let some young 3 point shooting aces get into the contest.

If it were big name vs other big names then yeah. If it were him against people like ray allen he would get destroyed because he's not a good 3pt shooter

I'd rather see Superstars in these ALL STAR events rather than Derozan/Nate and clowns like that. Pierce, Ray, Kobe, Dirk, Nash for 3pt shootout! Get some ****ing big names for the dunk comp too
