It says Vince has Un-Guaranteed money next year, does that mean he can sign whereever or how exactly does that work?

He has a team option for next season so if the Suns decline it, then yes he's an unresticted FA that can sign anywhere

Unguaranteed means its like the NFL. If the team decides to release him, they don't need to pay him the balance of his contract. If they don't release him, its like any other contract where he's paid his salary.

It essentially means his contract could be used like an expiring. Someone could trade for him and release him to get out of paying his contract.

he will be traded mid season to a team trying to unload a hefty contract. that team will just release carter to get cap space out of it.

If the Suns want, they can pay the 4mil buyout for next year. If he's happy with how the rest of this season goes (assuming the Suns find a way to return to form and get into the playoffs), then I could see him be willing to take a buyout and make maybe 5mil per year for 3 years with us.
If he's really angling to get a ring, he'll probably sign with Miami for the MLE.

that would mean this season is the expiring right?

why would they buyout for $4M when they could just not sign him next season for $0.

Yup, the team will likely buy him out and he'll be free to sign wherever he wants.

Wonder who would want him. I can't see him getting more than 6 Mill next year.

Because the $4 mil buyout is part of his contract.

I think plenty of teams could use him. New Orleans, Chicago, Charlotte, Cleveland to name a few.

Cleveland sounds about right

Thats terrible. I dont think Vince would want to end his career in Cleveland. He'd rather retire. This would show everyone that the end truly came for vince and i dont think vince will accept that.

Did his agent ask the question or am I all wet. I mean this site should ask the question "Is part of your income NBA associated?" with verification by the IRS.

Or is this question really that inept?

I think Chicago would be the best bet for him then if he wants to win and be somewhere where he may like it.

Surprised no one said Heat yet. Didn't VC always want to play near home... maybe for a minimum.

This is why he was considered an "expiring contract". He'll be a FA, unless the Suns re-sign him. No way he'll get paid that much.

But would he be best for Chicago?

It'd be tough to find minutes with Lebron, Wade, Miller and Jones. The Heat are set on the perimeter, we need help at PG and C.

In order to release Vince Carter, they have to buyout his contract. Rather than paying him 18.3 million, they can buy him out for only 4.7, thus saving a lil under 14 million.

But would he be best for Chicago?

I think so. He can create his own shot and create for others. Also we don't need him to score much, he would essentially be a 3rd or 4th option here. Hell possibly 5th option when Noah returns. But he would still start here.

I doubt Phoenix picks up his option for 18 million. Phoenix might offer a new contract starting around 9-10 mil a season. If not hes gona be a FA.

How much would Vince command on the market? A guy like Odom is getting 8.2 for three years. Ray Allen gets 10 mil, Nash gets 10, ect

I think Vince would be a great fit for the Jazz. He would fit well in the SG/SF spot especially if Kirilenko ends up leaving. He would provide good veteran leadership for a somewhat young team as well while being able to finish his career with a contender.

Zetterberg40

Yeah best fits seem to be Utah or Chicago he worth picking up for a playoff run I would not want to be the next team to invest in a multiyear deal with the guy though

All those players are much better than VC, and Odom and Allen are on contending teams (i.e. the Lakers and Celtics couldn't afford not to resign them).

I think he's MLE level or lower now. I'm not sure he'll try to get on a contender ala AI and TMac. Not sure if he'll have better luck than them or not.

Vince Carter is from Daytona Beach so he wanted to stay in Orlando since its about 1 hour away (I know I live exactly in the middle of the two cities) But because Orlando really didn't show him as much love as we could of I don't think he is going to come back. I think we would take him back for a vet minimum and to bascically be a back up to JJ Reddick ( I know he would be crazy to do this). That being said if the Suns don't keep him I could see VC chasing the money.

But I also think he wants a championship. so Chicago seems smart and he could end up being the starter. Boston and LA he could be a back up, maybe Miami cause they are 4 hours from Daytona. If I was a heat fan I would like this cause they can use Wade as the PG and have Carter, Millier, and LBJ shifting around at the swing.

Miami
Chicago
Boston
LA Lakers
Team who gives him the most money.

But me being a Magic homer I kind of want him to comeback for the vet min.

Miami is not an option. Too much depth at the wings. He cant add anything to what we already have.

Talent wise VC was about as great as you'll get in any draft. Its sad that his career wasn't better.

he should go to Boston. Sign and trade for Nate in the offseason
