View Full Version : Players you were wrong about!

Well I had a boring night and have been playing 2k11 and it just got me thinking of players who I thought would be big time players or players I thought would have bigger careers instead of someone drafted near them and haven't really done too much.

For example, I swore up and down that Emeka Okafor would have a better career then Dwight Howard. *tear*

Some other players I thought would be studs in the league were Acie Law, Julian Wright and Shelden Williams.

Now this isn't a baiting thread or anything, so no offence to any teams who have those players on there. I can name several(mostly all) players the Wizards have drafted that suck.

But what are some players who you thought would be almost guarenteed greatness and never panned out? No shame in this game either, so don't try to act tough like you knew it all along that someone would be horrible! Lol

And let's leave the last couple years out of this, because I believe some players(Thabeet) can still contribute if their game is worked on.

I remember how pissed my dad was when we took Howard over Emeka. Glad he was wrong.

I never thought Oden would be a good NBA player, but I actually think my mind has changed. I didn't think he'd be bad because of injuries...but when he does play, he is a top 5 center. Hopefully he can stay healthy.

I thought Foye would be better than Roy.

I never thought Love would be nearly as good as he is.

I loved Luke Jackson...thought he'd have a long career as a shooter.

I wanted Carney over Redick.

I thought Julian Wright would be a star.

I can keep on going...

I thought the same thing when he was drafted. He wasn't a tremendous shooter, his passing numbers weren't special...nothing that would suggest he was going to be this elite of a passer, and did I mention how poor of a shooter he was (is). He also seemed a bit too small.

I love Rondo. He's one of the 3-4 players I enjoy watching the most...but I don't think ANYONE would have expected him to be this successful.

Had 55 points and 7 assists in a game in a tournament in Europe for Oak Hill Academy. He also set the school record at Oak hill with 27 assist then followed that performance up by breaking his own record with 31 assists
he always had potential

ManRam
01-31-2011, 11:20 PM
he always had potential

I'm not saying he didn't, but go back 7 years and no one would tell you he's an all-star now.

And one game in high school really isn't helping your case. How many of these 100 point scorers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_basketball_players_who_have_scored_100_poi nts_in_a_single_game)(the males) really ever did anything in the NBA.

I watched Rondo a lot in college, he was the definition of a project. No one is hating on him, because who cares what people thought...but again, I don't think many, if anyone, could have foreseen this.

Haha im kidding. But I thought Lebron would be good, but something like a 20ppg 6 rpg sorta good. And I actually thought Wagner was gonna be good as well. Such a shame injuries screwed him up.

I also thought at the time, Melo should have been the #1 overall pick.

And this is going back a bit, but I remember when the Bobcats first started and had Brevin Knight as their PG. Even though he was like....32 at the time or something, I thought he would be a stud for atleast 5 more years. Then they go and draft Raymond Felton!

Dude not only did I think the same thing, but I remember back in 08,,, I was hoping my Celtics were going to draft him. I have no clue why he is not a better player

go read the "who do you think is gonna be a star" thread. Or the Wolves board. I have written novels on Brewer and his issues.
Simply put, his brain can't keep up with his body.

off the top of my head:

joakim noah - hated him coming out of college & I thought he would be riding the pine his whole career...boy was I wrong!

hasheem thabeet - I thought he would be the next mutumbo...

michael beasley - I thought he should've been the #1 pick and that he would be ROY. I also thought he was gonna be a 20/10 guy for his whole career...it's still early in his career tho...

joe alexander - I stood up for him when we drafted him and I thought he could potentially turn into a high scoring forward in the NBA...so much athleticism but not enough talent or basketball IQ...

jonny flynn - I thought he was gonna be a beast in the NBA...I actually wanted the bucks to draft him if he was gonna be available and I'm pretty sure they were going to draft him as well...again still early in his career but I think that the system the wolves run are not suited for his talents...

im not hating on the celtics, or rondo, but when those 4 HOF'ers retire, he will fall way down on the list of pg's, unless he can find a way to shoot the ball

Im never big time wrong
Usually slightly like i thought Pekovic and Splitter would be decent by now, Oden will be a star ( he still has the chance), Foye will be solid starter at least, Shaun Livingston ....

I thought Spencer Hawes would be a White Patrick Ewing

I was actually mad we picked Noah over him

i was extremely mad that we picked noah in that draft. i hated him since im an OSU fan and they beat up on us in the championship game. i was hoping we would get corey brewer. even though hes also a florida guy, i didnt have nearly as much hate towards him and i thought he would pan out to be a great player. im now glad that we have noah.

As a Kid, it didnt get any better than Mitch Richmond for me. He was The Rock, the GOAT in my eyes. You could have brought up Jordan, and I would have said "No way, Mitch is better." I knew Webber had nice stats, but he was on the Bullets. I thought it was the worst trade ever and it broke my heart. But Webber became on of our best players in the franchise history, and was the center piece of our glory years.

I thought Hasheem Thabeet would have been better than he is right now defensively...

I didnt expect Adam Morrison to suck this bad...

I thought Robert Swift would fit the "players out of high school tend to be good NBA players" ideology.

Brandan Wright....my biggest disappointment so far even though he isnt bad like Coach stupid makes him out to be.

i thought westbrook was drafted way too high, but little did i realize how much howland's offense didnt display his skills. i also thought minnesota made an awful move when they traded mayo for love. but, love has developed into a really good player and i was wrong about him being only a garbage man in the nba. sure, he gets lots of rebounds and easy baskets, but he also has a really good outside shot.
