2010-11 Power Rankings: Week 13
RK (LW) TEAM REC COMMENT

1 (1) Spurs 37-7 Without a 20-point scorer, San Antonio has 17 straight home wins and a 5.5-game lead on the rest of the West. That's the good news. The bad news? The Spurs finally have an injury worry: George Hill's right thumb.

2 (2) Celtics 33-10 A second straight road L -- at lowly Washington even with KG back -- generated not-so-surprising rumbles that the C's still dream of luring Sheed out of retirement ... then swiping Rip Hamilton from Detroit via buyout.

3 (4) Bulls 30-14 You can probably guess the last time the Bulls were 30-game winners before the All-Star Game. In case you can't: Rewind to '97-98 for MJ's final Bulls season, when they started 34-15, finished 62-20 and three-peated.

4 (5) Lakers 32-13 More data to suggest that West's No. 1 seed is already out of reach: Kobe and Co.'s second-half schedule would appear to be unavoidably tougher, thanks to a league-low 13 games so far against teams at .500 or better.

5 (6) Magic 29-15 Magic Kingdom dwellers, please tell us: How much satisfaction did you take Friday from the snippet in Simmons' marathon chat where he said that the Magic "scare me" with Ryan Anderson in the Rashard Lewis role?

6 (3) Heat 31-13 Still wondering, nearly a month later, if Spoelstra was referring to the committee (of one) when he said: "You can get whiplash if you really follow you guys and your opinions game to game." Nah. Couldn't have been us.

7 (10) Hornets 29-16 Dare we say this 8-0 run -- achieved without the privilege of sneaking up on people -- is even more impressive than the Hornets' stunning 8-0 start. The similarities? Stifling D anchored by a very effective/engaged Okafor.

8 (7) Thunder 28-15 They've outrebounded 21 teams this season, compared to 55 last season. The Thunder's regressed D gets nitpicked here and elsewhere regularly. Still, OKC had four more W's than it did at 2009-10's 41-game midpoint.

9 (8) Mavericks 28-15 What keeps the Mavs in the top 10, even after that horrific 3-10 stretch? Their slump-busting victory over the champs means Dallas has W's over every 30-win team (Spurs, Celtics, Lakers and Heat) except the Bulls.

10 (12) Trail Blazers 25-20 No one is coping with life minus Roy, Oden and Camby better than Aldridge, who has quietly joined Blake G., D-Wade, Amare and Dwight Howard as one of the league's top-five bucket-getters from five feet and in.

11 (13) Nuggets 25-18 You have to rewind to the Paul Westhead era for the last time Denver had the league's most prolific offense (107.4 ppg). Not that it'll be easy to sustain that with more road games (and Melo's presumed exit) looming.

how does a 17-26 team pass a team over 500 even with a 6 game losing streak ?

It's called weekly rankings.....how well you did the past week plus some intangibles. No one thinks the Bulls are 3rd in line to the championship.

Celtics all the way at number 3. Heat and Magic are better then them. The celtics are the most overrarted team in bball.

So the #1 seed out West is out of reach for the Lakers with PLENTY of games left to play?

To say that the Celtics are overrated, it's a ridiculous opinion. If you say you think the Celtics are bad, for this reason. Now that's an opinion with respect, while just something produced by hatred.

And I'm a Heat fan.

Spurs man. ****in spurs, man. Tonights big win over Golden State impressed me. What a shooting display, by both teams really.
