A source with direct knowledge of Randolph’s situation now tells us that the Knicks have agreed to a deal that will send Randolph to the Indiana Pacers….

While the move was far from shocking, many wondered which team would actually trade their first-rounder for Randolph, a bench player that coach Mike D’Antoni has lost interest in. The Timberwolves were the presumed front-runner. Now we know the Pacers, Walsh’s former employer, were the team prepared to acquire the 6-foot-11 Randolph.

The Pacers are pretty deep in frontcourt players, but none can match Randolph’s raw athletic ability. It’s up to Indiana to accomplish what New York and Golden State couldn’t over the last three seasons: convert his vast potential into consistent production.

Not sure if it is totally credible, so close if need be, but it appears the Knicks are acquiring a 1st rounder from Indiana, thus knocking over the first domino in a Carmelo trade.

Thoughts?

my gut feeling is that he will remain a Nugget until his contract expires.

from what i understand the Nuggets havent been the most cooperative with this whole trade Melo situation

I thought Indiana traded their first to the Hornets for Darren Collison? Must be a future 1st?

Doesnt say anything about them trading the pick. Looks like it was just a lot of players changing hands.

Man, Pacers have lots of potential in the front court in Randolph and Hibbert. Length too.

Collison - George - Granger - Randolph - Hibbert

I'd pay to see that.

looks like things are starting. I am not sure Walsh would do this just yet if the other pieces had not already been agreed to by both sides.

you don't have to post this if you are sick of this lol. However the thread is somewhat Carmelo and more the fact that the pacers are giving their first round pick for Randolph.

This is more news about Carmelo than any post that included the nets as trade partners because that was awful.

Regardless of whether the Knicks get Carmelo or not, this does give them a first round pick which if I remember correctly they're out of until 2014. Draft picks are cheap young players under team control. Good move by the Knicks.

The only pick they dont have is 2012. This means that they cant trade a pick until 2014. Everyone made that out to be the Knicks have no picks. In reality they have a 2011 pick(either theirs or Houstons, whichever is worse), 2013 and so on after that.

The 2012 pick makes it so the Knicks can trade any of their picks now, which was something that made the Nets a more ideal trade partner for Denver. Now, if this is true, the Knicks can trade 2 or more draft picks to the Nuggets in any package.

out of until 2014?

We have our pick this year, which will either be ours or Houstons, depends who has the better record.

We just gave one pick away for next year. People act as if we don't have any picks when we only don't have ONE for next year.'

That's just what I've read/heard. Good to hear they still have the draft picks.

It's safe to say Denver is going to get 2 first round picks in any deal (NJ, NY, CHI, HOU).

Doesn't look like the rumor is true according to this guy...http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/playerbreakingnews.asp?sport=NBA&id=1515&line=150326&spln=1

He basically says the Knicks can't just trade Randolph to the Pacers for a pick, because the Pacers already have 15 players. So they'd somehow have to deal one of their players.

The original source of this story, Business Insider, has printed a retraction here:

UPDATE: Multiple reports say that Randolph is at practice. Appears as though our information is wrong. We sincerely apologize for the error. We're reaching out to our source to find out what went wrong.

UPDATE: Pacers beat writer Mike Wells refutes this report because the Pacers have no cap space and 15 players. But another player could be involved, and the Pacers have a trade exception they can use to get the deal done. We'll continue to try and get more information throughout the day.

I don't see how the Pacers would trade a lottery pick for Anthony Randolph, a bust at this point. Maybe they really don't want to see Carmelo in the central.
