Manu Ginobili deserves the slot at SG this year...I can't really name SG's who have been better defensively.

He has not only been a stopper, but a great team defender.

My picks:

PG Rajon Rondo
SG Manu Ginobili
SF Nicholas Batum
PF Kevin Garnett
C Dwight Howard

In my opinion, Kobe, Wade and LeBron were never elite defenders, their superstar status just made them overrated.

Seriously. Kobe's always been an overrated defender. The fact that he has the same amount of defensive first team selections as Duncan, Garnett, and Pippen is a god damn crime.

First off, I agree about Manu: his defense has been amazing.

I do agree with this to a certain extent too. Kobe has always been a great defender, but certainly never the best at his position. I do think, however, that LeBron is closer to being that elite defender than Kobe ever has. LeBron is 4th in the league in defensive win shares, behind some pretty great defenders (Howard, Garnett and Paul). He leads all SFs in DRating too. While these stats are somewhat team dependent, he certainly does have the stats to back it up. LBJ's career defensive rating is 102; Kobe has only been below that once in his career. Also, LeBron has had defensive win shares from 4.3-6.5 his last 5 seasons; Kobe's best year was 4.5 and that was the only year he was above 4.

Basically, there are obviously better defenders than those two, but if you factor in how much time LeBron is on the court, and how often he guards the opposing team's best player...he certainly deserves it more than Kobe this season, and really, it wouldn't be an absolute travesty if he got it. But Kobe's days as a first teamer should be gone. He's no longer elite, and he no longer is thrown on the opposing team's best.

PG: Paul/Rondo
SG: Manu/Wade
SF: Ariza
PF: Garnett
C: Howard

KG and Dwight are absolute locks. It will be a travesty if neither make it.

to the OP firstly there are only 2 All Defensive teams, secondly there is no way in hell Rudy Gay is going to make either of them Luol Deng, Trevor Ariza, Wilson Chandler, Gerald Wallace, Shane Battier and Paul Pierce all deserve to be on the second team ahead of him and thirdly Kobe Bryant isn't the lock down defender he was in years past. In all likeliness he may not even make the 2nd. Still a very good defender however.

That being said here are my teams

PG: Rajon Rondo/ Chris Paul
SG: Dwyane Wade/ Manu Ginobili
SF: LeBron James/ Trevor Ariza
PF: Kevin Garnett/ Tim Duncan
C: Dwight Howard/ Andrew Bogut

In my opinion, Kobe, Wade and LeBron were never elite defenders, their superstar status just made them overrated.

I agree with that part and I honestly thought some years that Kobe was not deserving of a first team all defense. But you are still incorrect IMO Kobe has been every bit the defender that Raja Bell, Doug Christie and Taysaun Prince was every night hell some nights he was even better.

Wade and LeBron. Have you watched the Heat play this season? Did you watch them play last season? Dwyane Wade was the leader on the defensive end and his teammates followed suite. This season the soul reason their defense has been so good is because of the commitment on that end by Wade and James. Look at how they've looked defensively with no LeBron on the floor. They both deserve places on either of the first 2 teams. I also think your choice of Nic Batum this season may also be a bit pre-mature. He is no where near the defender that he showed himself to be last season.

Jrue Holiday should be 2nd team.

Jrue Holiday should be 2nd team.

I Love Jrue and my Sixers as much as anybody but quite frankly he doesn't deserve a place ahead CP3, Rondo, Westbrook, Kobe, Wade, Manu and Thabo.

The ****ed up part is, OKC will have money in 2012 and KD is Dwight's fav player in the league... I can't say I'm not a bit worried.
