http://www.muscleprodigy.com/blake-griffin-workout-arcl-1168.html

I read this interesting article on his workout. I think the fact that he was training on sand since his early days really has such a huge impact on his vertical leap and jumping ability. I read that doing sand workouts really helps this.

By the way, I am new to this forum and wanted to say hello. Hope to have more posts in the future. Thanks guys!

I remember seeing a special on NBATV about his training routines and they pretty much explain his athletic freakishness.

Whatever, he may be on pace to be an all-time great PF with a work ethic that rivals the best, but let's be honest friends: Landry > Blake.

Really? It's a pretty common workout for athletes since it works against you.

Like how some athletes try to run in water because running in water means more resistants and more muscles and energy being used.

I remember a couple of years ago going to a water part and running around the lazy river for probably over an hour because I was trying to race and chase my cousins because they had the float and I didn't. It killed my legs every time.

Really? It is indeed the hardest and best training I've ever done for endurance/leg workouts. Used to have to do piggy-back sand hill climbs in college. The pain!!!!!!!!

It's true, I've played beach volleyball (about 5-6 days a week) each and every summer since I could remember and I always came back to school with a bit more umph in my hops... I don't know anyone at 6' 225 (muscle mass) who could jump higher (40ish+" vert).

Griffin is 6'10 (supposedly 6'8) 250 with a 37" vert
Dwight is 6'11 (supposedly 6'10) 275 with a 40" vert

BG is definitely one of the most, if not the most explosive player in the league, but his vert isn't untouchable...

I heard 44 a few times, don't know how accurate it is though

I'd think James "Flight" White would definitely top the list in the NBA though, he is 6'7 and is about an inch or two away from touching the top of the backboard (a feat only claimed by Dwight)...

Will Bynum couldn't even touch rim before. He did a lot of exercises and now he slams with ease. If you train your muscles, you can increase your vertical.

i was just about to post something along the same lines... all throughout schooling, once the basketball season would wrap up, i'd get myself over to the volleyball team. One tournament, we played some real preppy school and they killed us.. it was in high school and it felt like these other 17-18 yr olds were just jumping over the net...chatted one of them and up, afterwards and the guy's like, most of this team is built up of guys who've played beach together for years... tried it for a couple of summers, it killed the legs but when you'd get back on an indoor court, you felt a bit faster and there was a bit more explosiveness jumping off a fixed surface... i can only imagine the benefit of training on it throughout your developmental years

Confusious

Wrong. Blake Griffin has a higher vert and it's clear as day if you watch the 2 players dunk or block shots. Dwight's block on Rose for example.. where he grazed backboard with head. Other day Blake's head hit the backboard with enough force to give him a sore neck... and he was still elevating when he hit the backboard.

On top of that... 4 sources have said he's got a 40+ inch vert right now. About a month and a half ago when asked.. he said his max running vert is 40+ and his stand still is 38. If you knew Blake... you'd know he's not one to brag or exaggerate. He hates attention. Also Ralph Lawler, trainer Jason Powell and assistant coach Marc Ivaroni in the last 2-3 weeks have all said Blake is around 40-41 inches. 4 league sources including Blake himself.. is more than Dwight has.

Just watch the two players play enough and it will be clear Blake has more vert. Dwight has height and length advantages.

This.

Although I do buy the fact that sand training is most effective, almost anyone can achieve their goal of increasing their vertical, so long as they work hard to it.

You gotta train and train hard, with fast movements, and you gotta train for jumping higher. My calves are toasted right now because of a bunch of calf raises i did last night, but thats not stopping me going again to shoot around and lift different, rested muscles. If you want to jump you gotta be strong, and lean.

My genes got the best of me for this type of thing (Italian). Considered one of the tallest of all my relatives, at 5'11, but i am now just getting my fingertips to touch the rim. But, playing pickup ball i often get more steals and blocks than my equal-height counterpart, and i love to crash the rim so i routinely out rebound guys out of nowhere. Once i get more mass and than cut the remaining bodyfat my vertical will increase even more. I was always physically not athletic until junior year of high school (6 years ago). I lost a bunch of weight and have been in my best shape for a while now.
