Eddie Griffin.
Was a beast at Seton Hall, but he threw it away with his antics and bad behavior. Was considered a lock as top 5 in the 2001 draft too. R.I.P.

There's just too many to mention, including some who still have the chance to prove themselves in this league.

Greg Oden: Injury issues have decimated his career thus far, but I thought due to the lack of elite big men in this league, he was going to be in the upper echelon of bigs as of this point. He still has plenty of time to turn it around as he's very young, but unless he stays injury free, he's going to be one of the more disappointing stories of the last few years.

Jay Williams: if it weren't for that damned motorcycle accident, he would be a top 7 pg in this league, and i have no problem saying that. He had some games in his rookie year where he just dominated and looked like that was just the tip of the iceberg for him.

Eddie Griffin: Not often mentioned, but one of the more upsetting stories that I can remember of the last ten years. Being a seton hall fan i remember watching griffin just dominate the league and thought if he could ever get his act together what a true superstar he'd be. It truly shows the difference that attitude and character make, when comparing guys like Tim Duncan to Eddie Griffin. Unfortunately alcoholism and a car crash took his life, but he was one of the more disappointing stories that i can remember as well.

Evan Turner! I'm confident he's going to get it together though.

Shelden Williams really frustrated me thought because I really thought he was going to become one of the better defensive PFs in the league for years.

He's played 56 career games, and statistically speaking is at about the same point Noah was after that many games. I don't think he'll be as good as Noah either, but I'd say it's way too early to write him off.

he definitely has skill but the fact is that he is undersized. that is the major difference between him and noah. hansborough probably has more basketball skill, but the hustle noah has at his size is what makes him the player he is.

i wish jj redick was doing better at the nba level. he had one of the prettiest shots id ever seen when he was in college. now he can barely get on the court.

Someone like Reddick you could tell wouldn't be a top pro... which is exactly why he slipped further in the draft than his numbers would ever let him...

But Adam Morrison I really was crazy enough to believe the slow white guy thing wouldn't hurt him. He was a thrill to watch at Gonzaga and I thought we were watching a poor man's Larry Bird. Considering I was too young to truly appreciate Bird, I was excited. His career (despite those amazing championship seasons in LA) has frustrated me more than any elite college player.

Honorable Homer Reference: Michael Sweetney and John Wallace

Christian Laettner is one of the greatest college players of all time and while he has had some success in the nba, it pales in comparison to his days at Duke.

Trajan Langdon was another blue devil who had a great college career and it didn't work out in the nba.

When you think about it now, there are a lot of Duke players who had great college careers but not the same success in the nba. Shelden Williams, Michael Dunleavy, Danny Ferry, JJ Redick, Bob Hurley.

They're not awful players in the nba but their impact was considerably less.

Michael Olowokandi and several other before Morrison. Olowokandi went 1st overall.

The draft where Morrison went 3rd is the draft where my Raps took Bargnani 1st. And I admit it. I wanted Morrison with the first pick.

And BTW, I hate it when people say that the Raps should have picked Brandon Roy. If he had gone 2nd, then yeah. But he went ike 5th or 6th. The Raps were not the only team who passed on him.

But passing on AI2 for Araujo sucked

my personal answer is sean may, just because he looked so dominant on that championship team. the guy was a force inside and had all sorts of moves. never had the physical gifts to be a star in the nba, though, even without becoming obese.
