View Full Version : LeBron: Karma tweet 'wasn't even from me'

Hustlenomics
01-13-2011, 12:47 AM
LOS ANGELES -- LeBron James was firm in his tweet Tuesday night that seemed targeted at his former owner and teammates. But when asked to explain his thoughts Wednesday, James turned evasive.

Speaking before the Heat took on the Clippers at Staples Center, where the Cavs suffered a historic 112-57 loss to the Lakers the night before, James hedged on the meaning of his missive and then even the source.

In the tweet James wrote: "Crazy. Karma is a b****. Gets you every time. It's not good to wish bad on anybody. God sees everything!"

It seemed that James was speaking about the Cavs, who have lost 11 in a row, and their struggles while taking a shot at team owner Dan Gilbert. Last July, in a letter to fans, Gilbert had predicted bad karma for James.

But James declined to fully explain his thoughts and then attempted to imply they weren't even his.

"It's just how I was feeling at the time," James said. "It wasn't even a comment from me, it was someone who sent it to me and I sent it out. It wasn't toward that team. It definitely wasn't a good showing by that team last night, I know they wish they would've played better."

The entry on James' Twitter account did not indicate it was a re-tweet from another user. James also did not fully explain the meaning behind the statement, though he did say that karma is a word and concept "I've kinda always used my whole life."

"I don't think there was intent at all," James said.

"I think everyone looks into everything I say. Everybody looks too far into it. No hit toward that organization. I've moved on and hopefully that organization is continuing to move on. But I'm happy where I am as a Miami Heat player."

How do people find out the meaning of words? Do they learn them all in school? Or do they display a little intellectual curiosity and learn this kind of stuff themselves, out of school? How many times have you or I decided to google the meaning of a word when we didn't know the definition?

Post explains a lot. There are these things called books, they existed before the internet. And they should have at least taught you prefixes and suffixes enough so that you should be able to figure out at least the con part of the word.

LeBron desperately needs some PR training.

Pretty convenient to not mention how disrespectful and low it was the way he announced going to Miami. That's probably the biggest reason he is so disliked. Certainly changed my opinion. I didn't really care one way or other about him before, but after the Decision, it really made me dislike the guy. A franchise player leaving a team is perfectly fine. However, to leave the way he did knowing how much he meant to Cleveland, that's about as classless as it gets. That's why all the hate.

LeBron did the dog eat your homework again? You're even too scared to take a shot against a team in contention like the Celtics or Lakers. You've gotta take a shot at the Cavs at their lowest. Grow some balls! We'll see how Karma works for you in the playoffs? But maybe we should be more concerned for Dwayne Wade's Karma because you're known to quit in the post season.

In fact, I made a thread about how this guy is a joke in my eyes..

I know I am about to lose all my respect (if I have any) here, but I am getting sick and tired of LeBron and his bull****.

That Cavs comment yesterday about karma is completely unnecessary and just shows me what an arrogant SOB LeBron really is!

I've never liked LeBron as a person and probably never will, and I hate him on my favorite team.

Up until this point, I've defended him but I'm done with defending LeBron, he truly deserves all the criticism he gets.

First contraction, then "MVP out the window for me and Wade", sponsors for your B-day? Constant drama

He's constantly making these comments which just show the ego this man has.

LeBron, after you made your "Decision" on a TV show embarrassing your home town do you expect your Clevelanders to shower you with flowers on your walk to board the plane to Miami? No, you expect them to hate you and be pissed off!

Just stfu and play basketball.

PS- I've ALWAYS loved his game as a player and will continue to, but I just hate him as a person.

Heat fans come in and defend him, and say they love the villain, and now he backs off..

Hate LeBron all you want, even I haven't been too pleased with some his antics. But you just have to respect his game for what it is. Regarding the tweet, none of us really know what it was directed at, so to not take his word is kinda silly to me, considering it's his words, and he must know it's intentions. I know it's safe to assume it was directed at Dan Gilbert, bt you really don't have a clear cut answer.

Funny how The Heat lose TO THE CLIPPERS the day after LeBron tweets some rubbish about "karma". Irony much?

It had nothing to do with "karma". The Cavs would have gotten destroyed by the Lakers, regardless if Dan Gilbert acted like an unprofessional jerk after LeBron left. Just another stupid statement by LeBron that reminds all of us that however epically talented, the guy is still just a immature 26 year old kid.

If it wasn't him, fine. But still, this seemed like a classic LBJ statement to me.

But in reality, could you imagine how complicated Lebrons password would be for his Twitter, consider he has millions of followers, and imagine all the people trying to hack his account. His pass would have to be very long and very complicated to stay in tact.

It's becoming increasingly evident that lbj is getting criticism for the first time in his life and doesn't know how to handle it properly, between the decision and not knowing what the word contraction means, to whatever this explanation meant he's really having a tough year in the media, an education would have really helped him handle these kind of situations

Nothing has to do with karma, ever. Karma is a stupid concept with no bearing in reality.

At the very least, its a stupid concept coming from an ignorant westerner, I'd only accept talking about it if I was talking with some learned Hindu or Buddhist, who actually knows what he's talking about from the perspective of their religion.

Thats why you get facebook, at least you can delete stupid **** you post

funny thing is that on twitter you CAN delete what you post. as soon as i found out about this tweet, i thought he would have deleted it already... he didn't... and he still hasn't.

when someone says something on twitter, and you want to repeat it, you just retweet it and it would have "RT@personyougotitfrom" before the message ... but in this case, it doesn't have that.

but what does it matter? he has a better understanding of karma now.

i don't think lebron meant it as an actual "force" or entity that is karma..

..i think he meant it as "what goes around comes around" type of thing...

yeah, thats all westerners ever mean when they say karma. It's still stupid, because it literally is supposed to mean "Bad people who do bad things will get theirs in the end"

which presupposes that there is some higher entity out there looking over every humans actions and waiting to balance out every bad action someone does, its awfully stupid, considering all the bad people who have raped, stolen, killed and gotten away with it out there.

Examples and end results that could be interpreted as "karma" happen every day. A lot of things can be interpreted as "karma".

But I agree that to assume it as a proven given in our world is stupid. There are tons of good actions never rewarded, and tons of bad actions never punished. What's the quote "no good deed goes unpunished"?

Not only is the guy stupid, but he is obviously a coward as well. If you're going to say something Lebron, stand behind what you say. Don't run and hide like a little coward.

And on that note: why didn't Lebron tweet after Paul Pierce and the Celtics punked them in Miami? Because Lebron is like most bullies.... he'll pick on those who can't really fight back, but when pressed with an actual confrontation... he'll fold like a lawn chair.

What he should have said was "Hell, yes, I was aiming it straight at Gilbert. Do you blame me?" and then paid any fine he would get.

His real problem is that he was hurt by Gilbert's words more than he acknowledged at the time. That is obvious from his comment on Twitter.

That and as someone said, he has no media sense. He just does not seem to understand that he is always in the public eye, and that everything he says is going to be analyzed to death by people who are either looking for a story, or by people who hate him and wish him harm. And they will always conclude the worst possible interpretation of any comment.

He should cancel any social networks he has and starting learning how to say "no comment'" to reporters.

Not to engage you in yet another argument, but I just had to comment when you said and I quote "Karma is a stupid concept, with no bearing in reality."

You went further to assume that "Westerners" are ignorant to this concept. Have you read "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you?" It's the same religious concept, except that this idea supercedes religion. It's something that is very "Real". No bearing in reality you say?...Well, I'm not you, and I have zero idea as to your ideas on reality, but the Karmic principle is very real to me. I try and live by it. If I'm nice to people, over time when I see them again, I usually benefit in one way or another, even if it's just a smile. If I'm a ******** to someone or just in general, those people will do me no favors. If someone's a ******** to me and I still treat them with respect, I'm the one keeping true to myself and not "Stooping" to their level. In time 9x out of 10 that person will cease being a ******** to me and thus I've helped not only myself, but said person as well. This is coming NOT, may I repeat NOT from a place of righteuosness but a common sense of reality. I only hope that other people have discovered this as well. It's what I thought was a pretty well understood Universal principle. Karma is an idea that is well rooted in reality if you ask me. I see it's effects on a daily basis. I'd be happy to discuss this further, but this is not the forum for such topics.

interesting perspective, but I don't think "do unto..." is similar to karma.

"do unto..." is wholly dependent on the actions of humans, while karma is something mystical and when used in the context of speech and especially by westerners, outside of human affect.

It's meaning is dependent on a sense of divine justice that I don't think exists in this world; otherwise the evil would not prosper and the good would not suffer.

I think our ideas of "Karma" are similar yet have some differences. It's obviously more of a Philosophical conversation and I think we could eat up a whole thread discussing it. Anyways...Stay cool RZZZA

Lmao, Karma doesn't have to mean anything about a higher being. Buddhism, for example, doesn't require a God or gods, and still has Karma. It's about being a 'good x' to further progress up the tiers of animals for Hindus, up to the Brahmas so that you can finally be free of suffering. Yadda yadda.

still is based on divine justice though. Be good in this life, you get rewarded. Be bad, you're punished. that's justice through divinity.

Not divinity. Divinity implies Godlike power, Karma is more focused on the reincarnation process, moving up or down the list, not so much what happens in this lifetime.

That being said, Karma is a dumb concept, because they believe there is no soul, and the enlightenment releases your consciousness back into Atman (or the great consciousness), but if that is true, how do 'you' become reincarnated, and how does 'your' karma follow 'you' if there is no real 'you' to follow.

Kinda, it's about being a good person. If you're a good person through your life, you'll move up, if not, you'll be demoted. It's more about gaining the maturity to be ready to be enlightened. Hindus rely more on the punishment reward side than Buddhists, because Hindus can't reach enlightenment until being a Brahma (the Hindus have a caste system that really sucks for the people). Buddhists are able to reach enlightenment at any stage.

At the time of the tweet I called the move childish, but I understood it. I mean you can't fault the guy for having ill will against Gilbert after the way things went down. However, not only is his excuse for the tweet even more childish but it's downright pathetic. Man up and admit it was you. Worst part about this whole thing is were probably going to have to sit through another "What should I do?" commercial.

Lebron was seen reading the art of war in the locker room....

Reading as in staring at those little characters in this book his pr team gave to him right before the media came in.

There's no way he comprehends that book. Like someone else said, he probably did not legitimately pass high school. His actions and words are those of a thirteen year old cocky bully of a kid who is scared of detention.
