But I have some strange feeling we will see Portland Trail Blazers become WC champions.
I also have a feeling Steve Nash might be traded to Portland.

In no order...because I need more time to see these guys play. I think there are 6 true contenders.

Miami, Orlando, Boston, LA Lakers, San Antonio and Dallas.

They've all had their ups and downs. Right now I'm skeptical of the West teams more so than the East teams...but I'm sure that will change weekly.

Thunder

Note: I want to Put Mavs At The Thunder spot but until I see that team adjust to life without caron butler and to see how that team adjust when Roddy Buckets comes back i wont put them in "serious" contenders...i would put them at 6th on this list though....So i wont have the Mavs in the top 5 until roddy comes back and they play how they were in the begining of the year...that intensity....maybe harsh but its fair

Spurs....just missing it...there starting to show that there wing defenders are not as good as the old spurs team....its a different one in that they actually score more than defend....i trust Pop but they do have to improve in overall team defense...at least they got timmy in the middle so the middle is always locked down...there in 7th right now

bulls - wait till I see noah and boozer play together for a long enough strech...they are a darkhorse in the east i give them that...i want to see how noah n boozer compliment each other....they should fit together real well but until they do they wont be moved up on my list

Caron Butler's our for the season, right?

Miami, Boston, Los Angeles, San Antonio. It comes down to those 4 teams for me, as the true elite contenders. Dallas would be included if it weren't for injuries. As of now, I include them in my 2nd tier of fringe contenders (Orlando, Chicago, Utah, possibly OKC).

Seriously? Unless Brook Lopez turns into Duncan and Melo suddenly becomes MJ, there is no way that's the case. There's more talent around Melo in Denver right now (and the last few years) than there would be around Melo in NJ.

Butler was, in terms of any advanced stat or metric out there, no better than Dallas' 7th or 8th most productive and efficient player this season. Stevenson is out-performing him by a mile right now. His loss won't be as significant as it looks just based on his name.

Yes. I've felt that way since the summer, and since people started over-hyping both them and Durant insanely. Both teams need another big piece to move into contention. Both probably are their conferences 4th best team...but they aren't ready to make the next big step.

And for those who haven't seen the new-look Magic. We are better than we were last year, and probably the year before (especially with a healthy Nelson), and in those two years we made the Finals and ECF. I think that alone makes them contenders...unless you only think the NBA Finals winner, or ECF winners are true contenders...AKA, unless you only think there are two contenders in the NBA.

Caron out isnt a problem if you look at advanced stats, Stevenson is a better efficient player and shooter

Dirk out is why the Mavs are struggling and he will be back next game, before dirk got hurt we had the best record in the league and dirk was #1 on the MVP race so you have to put the mavs since dirk is coming back next game

In this order....

1) Celtics
2) Heat
3) Lakers
4) Spurs
5) Magic

No disrespect to Chicago, they're really getting scary, but they haven't reached the peak yet, so this will change at some point, due to Noah & Boozer's lack of PT together.

First, Boston has the best chance of all for numerous reasons. They have great size in the front court NOW! So imagine when Perkins and KG get back healthy. They don't have any liablilities on their roster. But the biggest reason of all, is their depth. Nate Robinson, Delonte West, Shaq, Jermaine, Glen Davis, and Marquis Daniels would be their bench, this assuming Perkins starts at some point. The Spurs haven't been impressive lately, but the Lakers are picking it up again. Orlando hasn't hit their peak either in my opinion, but their lack of a true back-up center could hurt them come playoff time.

As for the HEAT, they've been ridiculous lately and since it looks like Boston might slow it down and rest for playoffs, Miami will look to seal the best record in the east. Hope they can do it.

God why the **** is regular season so long.
Im already bored.

Let the real games start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Regular season shoudl be cut to 58 games.

One home one away against each team then top 16 make playoffs regardless of conference and division-.

I think if you include Orlando you should also include Chicago, I mean look at what we're doing with one of our top 2 big men out all the time, and that won't be the case in about a month and a half from now...

Miami
Lakers

Magic (with addition of capable big-man) --- both of these I think will happen

I think there are four teams you have to have in the top 5 and that's:

Lakers
Celtics
Heat
Spurs

Number 5 is where it gets cloudy. It was the Mavs, but with Caron's season over I can't put them there with certainty. The Bulls need to stop playing 4 on 5 and get a SG. The Magic are playing well right now, but I'd like to see more. Those 3 I believe are debatable for the 5th spot. I imagine baller01107 is gonna come in here with his tier system since he repeats it for every thread like this.

I can't really make a case for OKC or the Jazz to be in the top 5 discussion.

San Antonio had the best record before Dirk went down (SA has 4 loses and Dallas has 5 i think). Dallas would have had the chance to take the best record though if it didn't lose to the Raptors prior to the second game with San Antonio.

It's incredible how many people have left the Spurs off their lists. It's not that they have slowed down, but they have been injured the past few seasons. When healthy, the Spurs are absolutely a top 5 championship contender. They do have the best record in the NBA right now.

Heat, Spurs, Celtics, Lakers, Magic, Mavs- I know that's 6, but they look like the only 6 teams in the NBA that actually have a chance at winning the title.
